Great video sir. I really wished if I studied properly during my electrical and electronics engineering course 😢

Installed mine today, your video was a big help, thanks. I also upgraded to a touch probe and a bit setter, when testing the bit setter it would go to the bit setter position and then begin to go down and stop after about 5 mm of travel then gave an error code. After several resets I went to the internet for help, found the problem quickly. The X-Y-Z probe was grounding out. All set and ready to play! Thanks again,

Nice! I just ordered this kit. I know some great stuff has been made on the stock z stage, but I've had terrible luck with mine. Looking forward to tightening this up.

Nice work! My kit had metal filings in the Z motor too.

Great video. Would you mind providing some details on the spindle/vfd you're using and how you like it over the router?

Thanks, I just replied to Rob D. who asked the same question at the same time. See comment above =) cheers.

Thank you for posting this video, I just ordered an upgrade for mine. What type of water cooled spindle do you use? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Thank you for your prompt response. Do you think the HDZ is worth $200 more than the z plus? Appreciate your comments.
@etischer2 жыл бұрын
I haven't used the HDZ, but for my purposes Z plus is everything I wanted; ball screw and linear rails. For me, I wouldn't upgrade to HDZ, it feel like overkill considering the rest of my machine is still belt drive and v wheels.

I can't get my unit to glide smoothly on the v-wheels. What am I doing wrong?

This is the spindle kit I bought: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1EJEQ1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It runs on 120vac. Overall I'm happy with it, it's super quiet. It seems to be limited in speed to about 10k rpm, based on using the built in speed pot and the displayed speed on the keypad. I haven't actually measured the speed, or spent more than 10 mins looking into modifying the parameters to get higher speeds. Seems like it's running 10krpm at 400hz. It would be nice to go higher than 10k, sometimes I like to really mow through material. 10k rpm is also the low speed on my Makita router which is also fairly quiet at that speed. Nice thing is you can run the new spindle really slow for aluminum. The spindle motor has a smaller diameter at the collet end, compared to my Makita router, so for fitting a dust boot, and access for watching the cutting bit is better. Since the new spindle is liquid cooled, there's no fan which makes it quiet, and the chips from cutting don't blow all over the place. The kit came with a full set of ER11 collets, much nicer than using spacers/adapters with the router. I wish collet wrenches were included with the kit, I'm using big box wrenches, would be nice to have something smaller. The kit came with a HY brand inverter, which seems to be more feature rich than some of the other no-name brands. It has options for remote keypad, remote speed pot, remote start/stop buttons, speed select inputs, programmable relay output... I suppose you could wire the water pump to run off the relay output, so it automatically turns on when the spindle is up to speed. I just have a master switch that turns everything on at once. The VFD seems to be EMI filtered well, I don't see any of my garage lights flicker like have experienced with other inverters. I bought some shielded cable for the motor leads, since the VFD puts out a lot of EMI. There is no provision on the motor connector for a ground, so I just put a ring terminal on the screws that hold the cable strain relief. I also segregate the USB cable a few feet away from the motor leads, just to prevent any interference I did have an issue with my Shapoko stopping in the middle of a run on occasion, but I think it was a software related issue. hope that helps.
