So remember back when we got a flashback about how Kenpachi met little Yachiru? Kenpachi and little Yachiru did not have a name. So "Zaraki" is the name of the part of the Rukongai where Kenpachi is from and he named little Yachiru after the person he respected the most!

Unohana's nature has been hinted since the start: -Even Captains as strong as Kyoraku and Ukitake are shown to be afraid of her (it's often played off as comic relief but still) -her "fake" name, Retsu, means "violent" or "fierce" -In the first databooks, her total combat ability score was 540/600, second only to Aizen and Yamamoto, both having a score of 560/600, and her special ability was listed as kenjutsu, not healing.

I personally think Retsu was her name when she was a criminal. She started being called Yachiru after training with the first Gotei 13. Then let go the moniker of Yachiru and the title of Kenpachi when she left the 11th squad in order to start her path of self-imposed sentence for her guilt and went back to her criminal name.

Kubo never too directly, so to break it down in the most simple terms, the premise behind the Kenpachi/Unohana training is that they need Kenpachi to be stronger right, Kenpachi is a person who has no sword training, has little understanding of himself (I.e meaning he can't unlock even shikai yet) but he's on the level of the other Captains....With all that in mind, someone has to push him to that point, whoever that is wont likely make it out...this is practically like testing a nuclear weapon, and Unohana happens to be the only one who can supposedly push him to said point.

There can Only be 1 Kenpachi every generation. After She fought Zaraki as a child she knew he was meant to take her place, thus she stopped fighting and had other ' Kenpachi ' fill that space untile he was ready to recieve the title from her, the Real Kenpachi.... Basically all other kenpachi were like place holders for Zaraki.

Zenjutsu is pretty much Swordmanship. Zaraki currently knows none of it and is just throwing his sword around like a stick. Also Buff Kon was supposed to appear last episode in Mayuris lab surprising Ichigo but it was replaced with him just passing by while being chased.

A few things to note. All Shinigami have a pseudo-Zenkai boost, not just Zaraki, but there is deeper meaning to Zaraki that is sort of already known, just not the full extent. I won't say further until the next episode comes out. Also, Zaraki's Lieutenant, Yachiru, was stated to be named by Zaraki after the individual he admired most. We see that come full circle here with the reveal of Yachiru Unohana. The ending there, with Zaraki getting stabbed, it's made pretty clear that it wasn't an illusion because you still see the blood on Unohana's face. You see the blood first appear during the scene when she actually stabs him through the throat so, she did actually stab him. Kirinji (hot spring dude) wasn't actually given the direct reason why he's part of the Royal Guard, but I'm pretty sure it's because he developed Kaidou (the Shinigami healing arts) and, more specifically, the Kirinden Hot Spring that we see replicated in the Sereiteii itself. Remember back when Ichigo was training for Bankai he was healed in a hot spring.

@Castiel_01x Urahara states that the soul undergoes fast growth when it's put in danger. It doesn't function the exact same as a Zenkai boost, sure, but that's why I said it was a pseudo one. It has similar application, though not as much of a boost as a typical Zenkai Boost.

in theory zaraki kenpachi ((this is not spoiler)the elventh kenpachi) has no name since Kenpachi is a title and zaraki is the 90th rukon district where he is from, wich means this fight is about his identity too. in his words "if im not strong i would be just a criminal". cool breakpoint for a fan favorite character and unohana as the big reveal/contrapoint with her "so weak". i just love this part of bleach

Yachiru (Kenpachi's adopted daughter) was named after Unahona, and she may look like a child, but she is actually older than Byakuya and Isshin combined. Aging is really strange and inconsistent, particularly with more powerful characters (eg. two of the Zero Squad are, no joke, a million years old). And, yes, with Yamamoto dead, Unahona is the most powerful fighter for Soul Society outside of the Zero Squad.

It seems she did something in her fight with Zaraki in the past that caused her to feel guilty otherwise, it wouldn't be necessary to call powering up close to death a flaw. My guess is she destroyed some part of his power since it was alluded to that their first fight was much closer. We were also told Kenpachi titles have are passed down upon death so her being alive means something did not go the way it was supposed to.

Do keep in mind that there were a few other shinigami that held the title of Kenpachi between Unohana and Zaraki. It didn't go from her to him in one step. You'll also find out why she didn't stay the Kenpachi in the next few episodes.
