Israel"s strength is from God. Judges 6: 14 The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” 16 The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.” Judges 7: 2 The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. In the war of independence Egypt had planes, artillery, and tanks. Israel had a handful of civilian aircraft that were retrofitted weapons and civilian vehicles with improvised armor So it's not even about the quality of the weapons. Perhaps it's morale, organization, command, daring, and logistics. Also in the battle of kibbutz Yad Mordechai a few dozen fighters with small arms in ditches held back 2000 Egyptian soldiers with artillery, tanks, and air support for 2 weeks before retreating, buying precious time for Tel Aviv. It's crazy.

I think part of the IDF's success especially in the beginning say 47 to 70 is that a lot of those original soldiers were survivors of some fiercely fought battles against the Germans in WW2. Fought in Ghettos and sewers and such the Germans found out that the Jewish and even the Polish were some seriously tough bastards. When your fighting for not only your homeland but your very life it brings out a much more tenacious fighter which I think the Germans seriously under estimated. The Russians did the exact same thing against the Finnish in the Winter War. As my D.I. Sgt. Dittman used to tell us there is nothing like a highly motivated enemy.

During the war of attrition, in a small outpost on the Suez canal my dad was on guard duty with LMG. he was guarding the gate which was soft point, since the canal side was mined &fortified. Half of the platoon were sleeping in bunker from night ambushes, night raids and guarding for enemy night raids. the other half? in another small outpost. the bunker is dug to protect vs arty, half underground and they are sleeping dead. so they are with shorts or naked and their guns. My dad hears distant engine. the sound keeps getting louder. he picks up the LMG and runs to the canal side and set up. the noise keep getting louder. it's a Heli in daylight. little dot in the sky which kept getting bigger. he could make the cockpit bubble of the soviets transport heli at the time, with little black dots in it (people). and it keeps getting closer, bigger. when it starts to get in logical range for LMG my dad is already set up. he opened up. he could see the tracers going. he was in range and rounds were going to the heli good enough for the pilots to notice they are in danger. the glass bubble of the transport heli got smaller and smaller instead of bigger and bigger. the dot in the sky was starting to get smaller and vanish. all that happens in few minutes. By that time the guys woke up in the bunker, got in uniforms or just vests, tripped over and out and up and asked what's going on in panic. He explained. the NCO wasn't impressed. They all said he was tired like them and dreamt it up or panicked. After head on argument with the senior NCO which in it he refused to deny what happened he was told to fold the story or get court martialed. He replied let's go, maybe unaware he might not only get busted down to private but maybe shot/hanged during war-time service deployment. a report was made since court martial is something that officers are required to take part in. And officers like reports. the report went out and date for trial was set. on the day he traveled a bit with the NCO and the officers of course were about to bust my dad to private and chew him a new asshole while at it. he denied lying still to the end and the punishment was about get called to end it. a car pulls up all of a sudden, some intel scum in civie clothing come out of it. they ask who's the officer of the unit from all the officers present, which sent the report out most likely. then he pointed to the NCO which wrote the report, then he pointed to my dad. They asked him to tell it all again. then the intel scum guys huddle among their own. They turn to their car and only then start thinking why everyone they needed to talk to was so easy to reach? they couldn't pass the chance to be smug on their way out too and ask the officers what's going on? when they are told they laugh at the officers. Then they pulled a newspaper from the week of the event that most likely came to them from spies in Egypt and read the headline story to all present: 'the glorious president of Egypt toured the front to observe the line of outposts near the Suez canal by helicopter. when it came close to water line and the Israeli outposts line, the helicopter took fire from the Israeli side. the brave president "went on with his tour anyways" under fire' (they turned back, most likely soviet pilots didn't want to get court martialed for losing HVT due to stupidity). The intel scum guys went smug about it telling the officers to give him a medal instead of berating him for the act and were happy to not wait for army officers reply and go back in their car to be back enroute back to the A/C. after that, the officers vibe changed, they stopped the trial and of course added be quiet about it and left. they were happy to get out of the desert sun too and sad about not being able to be smug that day while having a little field court martial. The NCO shut up himself too and got back with my dad to the small outpost, where the rest were curious why my dad wasn't shot or still with his ranks on his shoulders quiet and smiling and the NCO was even madder than before and also quiet.

It took forever to find this comment. This, as we've seen in scriptures, is the real reason for their victories. I see that they are still, along with all people that God has created, and having a hard time proclaiming that. With all of the rich history they have with Yeshua....boldly declare what He's done for you! Romans 1:16! Don't be ashamed.

My dad decided to chase his then girlfriend halfway around the world and ended up in Israel 1967. He remembers the Six Day War, told me that Rockets were flying and there was chaos everywhere, yet he said he didn't have a care in the world and felt pretty safe while staying in Israel. A New York Jew who got out of serving in Vietnam stays in a country during a war and tells his daughter that despite Rockets flying through the air, he wasn't worried one bit about Israel being invaded. For a 17 year old diaspora Secular Jew to feel completely safe during an attempt invasion with genocide in mind says a lot about the IDF, cause my father, secular he may be, had total confidence in the Israel Miltary succeeding, if that is not faith then I don't know want is, but if my father had faith in the IDF, then so can I! Operation Moked was a brilliant master move of Ben-Gurion. Before taking out the entire Egyptian Airforce, they strategically bombed every (and I mean every) intact runway. Without the ability for aircraft to take off, it quickly became a turkey shoot.
