This was a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP level PROFESSIONAL track. If the organizer's aren't allowed to stop 8 year olds jumping the big jumps, the alternative is they can't be invited to take part next time. Also teaching kids to not follow rules if it suits them is an easy way to destroy society.

After thinking more about this, there are 2 seperate issues, Should they have had the rule is different than enforcing the rules given. They should probably just let them jump what they felt they could jump. That being said, they did issue this rule to the entire field of racers, and grey, arguably, gained an advantage breaking the rule, that brennan followed. So the position doc should stand, because brennan probably couldve also jumped the finish jump too, but didnt because he was following the rules.
@rico80894 ай бұрын
It was definitely wrong for the SMX officials to allow the 65cc to jump the finish in practice, then 10 minutes before the gate drop they decided to change the rules because it would be bad for the broadcast if one of the kids got hurt live on tv. Also, bs that they knew they were going to dock or disqualify Carter, but they hid that information on the broadcast to avoid the boos. Because the crowd and viewers loved seeing him clear that jump, they praised him on the podium and then stole his win.

No, the unpopular position is this: if this was made clear in the riders meeting that the double was off limits, then its his own fault. Pro riders are expected to know the track rules, and breaking them because its 'awesome' is THE WRONG MESSAGE TO SEND TO YOUNG RIDERS!!! Last thing you want is for riders to ignore track rules and expect forgiveness. So if this was a clear rule for this class, then Hopper and all are 100% wrong. And also who cares, everyone knows what he accomplished, especially the factory teams. You can disagree about the banning of the jump, but the risk reward of 8-12 year olds sending it for adults amusement is insane. But then again people are too used to the entertainment industry exploiting kids and putting them into harmful situations because.....

They let them jump it for 2 days and only warned them 10 minutes before gate drop. His coach at the gate then said, jump whatever you are comfortable jumping. So if anything you can blame his coach but do not blame the child for racing within his comfort zone just as he did for the previous 2 days.

You are wrong Hopper. This kid deliberately violated the rules. It’s not like it was accidental or he didn’t know it was wrong. An adult gave him very bad advice. His coach said, if you think you can do it, do it. That’s not leadership or a good role model. In fact it’s quite dangerous. Safety rules are not arbitrary. Know that riders don’t get to determine which ones they want to obey. Thats the way it goes in life.
