I've seen quite a bit of criticism of the new Kaleidos Viva Alma collection but is it really that bad? Today I'll be trying everything on and sharing my thoughts with you guys!

Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time KZbinr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. ​@@marysmith3761the surgeon would have pulled the east and west sides together, after removing the necessary tissue. The scar itself shouldn't be any wider than her natural part. On the actual scar itself- immediately where the sutures are- the hair won't grow on it - but it will grow around it just fine - this is the generality of it, as I haven't seen her particular incision.

@@pickledginger4574 you're exactly right! The stitches run right along my part line so I shouldn't lose any hair. If there's a scar there I can always hide it by just adjusting my part slightly. :)

I just found out about your medical situation. I wish you all the best and hope you are doing well. I've been out of the loop lately. I've had a couple surgeries; I too have been battle with cancer and now I also have kidney failure and been on dialysis. I used to watch your videos regularly (I'm still a subscriber) but I've been so sick lately. In just the past 2 months I've been hospitalized 6 or 8 times, I've honestly lost track. I live in Texas and our temperatures over 100 just seems to make me feel worse. I've needed a bone marrow transplant since the late 90s and we finally recently found me a donor match, but then I was given the bad news that my kidney failure has now made me no longer a candidate for transplant. Just when I thought I could finally be cured. The doctor told me now needing both a bone marrow and a kidney, he was being honest when he told me I probably won't get either. They really want to save transplants for people who are more likely to recover and with needing 2 transplants than just 1, makes it more likely that the transplant won't be successful. If I just needed one or the other, it would be different. I agree with you that makeup is a good destraction. I've been asked if my husband minds me having such a large collection of makeup, but he knows I've been battling illness since I was just a kid in the 90s, and since have gotten even sicker. He knows playing with makeup brings me joy. It's something I can do when I'm too sick to leave my home, to sit in my bed and play. Sometimes I get silly andd wear my makeup a little too over the top. I also started wearing wigs and I have some in some fun colors.

Fascinating, the Twilight Rush palette looks very different when you are just holding the palate versus the swatches on your arm. When I saw the swatches on your arm I legit gasped! Those colors sooooo speak to me. Wow you are so thorough with your comparison of the previous palette swatches and I appreciate that.❤

I@@JenPhelps I strongly agree with you and @coffeebeforemascara about the Twilight Rush palette! Very pretty! But purple is a little far out for me, and the last thing I need is more eye shadow! I'm on a makeup no buy until I use up some of what I have. That is, except for replacing mascara, which according to the FDA website, should be done within 2 to 4 months of the first use.

I'm a cool toned Asian girl, and honestly this current collection by Kaleidos got me saving up to buy both the new quads and 2 of the glossy lip tints (Hot Pursuit and Last Smoke). Seeing your swatches definitely confirmed my suspicions that the previous ones are either warm leaning or too bright. The cool neutral browns and purples in both the Twilight Rush and Venus Trap are a godsend for cool tones like me who don't like bright blue-based colors. PS. Hope you get well soon!

After the disappointment that was Natasha Denona’s new «cool toned palette», with five! Of the shades even having warm in their names, this looks much more promising for this cool toned lover. Exactly! ND is notorious for claiming products are cool toned but have actual warm descriptions. The Glam palette is mostly neutral and warm with a few pops of true cool tones. I'm definitely skipping this new palette

yeah, exactly, the ND palette would be fine if she straight said its neutral/warm, but claiming its cooltoned is a joke . I have trouble respecting a makeup artist who doesn't understand colour no matter how famous they are. At least we have Kaleidos who gives us the real cool tones

I’m so happy you were open minded and really looked at this collection fairly. I feel like a lot of western influencers have been hating on this collection. But as you mentioned it’s very much more geared towards douyin/Chinese/Korean style makeup trends, which is very into cool tones, muted colors, light blushes, etc.. also thanks for the comparison, I was wondering how similar they were since I have all the other quads!!

I don't mind that they are using neutral colors. It's fine for a company to go back and forth on the colors they want to work with. What disappointed me in this collection (and others like it tbh) is that because it doesn't go very dark or deep, it really limits the amount of people who can appreciate it or make it work. I've heard from other YTers that Kaleidos is putting more focus on the Asian style of makeup, which is much more delicate and soft compared to EU or USA makeup. And based on what the collection looks like, that seems to be the case. Which in all fairness, Kaleidos can make those decisions. But then people with even light medium toned skin will not be able to use the blushes because they won't show up well. I just figured that by 2023 we'd be past the whole - they didn't make anything that works with my skin tone - problems. As for the eyeshadow quads, I feel like it's a been there, done that situation and I'm not interested in buying more of the same thing. Similar to the last 4-5 motherships from PML.

I agree that they should have released darker blushes (and they would've been gorgeous) but in terms of the eyeshadow palettes, as a fair person with a true cool undertone, I have to disagree. What makes these so great is that there has literally been virtually nothing like this on the market so it actually fills a huge gap and is sg that is finally made for us rather than just being partly usable by accident, as usual. Fully cool-toned neutral/mauvey colour stories are simply non-existent on the market bc even what gets called cool-toned is determined by what it looks like on everyone else than people with an actual cool undertone. I have the previous collection and those shades are insanely dark and pigmented so it's actually nice to have something that's similar but lighter. And they are still only quads! So as someone on the other end of the makeup bell-curve, these are absolutely unique and needed.

They should've really come out with either bigger palettes to include darker shades or a 3rd quad to grab that market. If this is Kaleidos trying to grab the Asian market then idk why they're ignoring the fact that there are dark/tan Asians.

You could look at all the other blushes they have in existence in their range and they would have worked for you but you have to criticise it when they suit fair skinned people. We exist not just in Asia although I buy mostly Japanese blushes now because the Western Market is so dominated by what suits your skin tone and darker. Not all of us want heavy pigments or to have it made out like something is wrong with the world when a product works for us.

Maybe in 2023 we should be over the exaggerated expectation that every single release from every single brand needs to cater to everyone under the sun. Brands should be able to have releases just meant for deeper skin tones AND they should be able to release stuff for fairer skin as well without all of this performative outrage. And if you don't like what a brand releases, fine, don't buy from them, move on. I don't see the need to then insinuate some moral failure. Makeup is supposed to be joyful and fun, it can be therapeutic, an escape from the crap in our lives. And here are all of these people losing their minds about 4 blushes an Asian brand releases to cater more to an Asian market...yeah, let's leave this crap behind, it's getting really tiresome.

I myself am light skinned and it's really not that hard to make any blush color work but darker skinned people can't make a pale blush work no matter how much they pack on.

These are made for me and I have no colors like the taupe one! The darkest of the pink blush would be great for every day wear! More brands are launching neutral/natural palettes because of economic climate. This type of colour story is most profitable as there's little chance of them being "left on the shelf". Anyhoooooo, I love both of the palettes - I hope they haven't sold out! The lip glosses are super pretty 😍. Hi Jen! I’m very happy to know your surgery went well. You honestly look awesome with the scarf in your hair…I would have straight up thought it was a beautiful intentional up do! The makeup looks great on you - I also like this collection and from what I’ve seen, the blushes show up on a broader range of skin tones than what one would expect. Def not one size fits all by any means, but they seem to show up on medium skin tones and build quite a bit. I don’t have first hand experience though. Happy week/weekend, Bella! ❤

14:40 LOVE this 1 w/your eye look!!! I have a similar shade as an eyeshadow (Laura Geller) & REALLY wish I had a blush that color. I would describe that eyeshadow color as a burgundy w/the slightest but GORGEOUS bronze shift. The bronze shift part is more frosty than glittery or shimmery though. Other than having fingernail marks N the shadow (LOL) it's a silky buttery smooth formula. I do have fallout w/it but it's WORTH IT, IMO.

I know the bandanna is a necessity right now, but it looks beautiful on you. I think a silky scarf pinned on would give that 50s or 60s glam, and a summer flair. I think I'm going to air mine out! ❤ Hope you're feeling better, and i still hope you got that ice cream.

I like the Douyin and K-beauty styles of makeup a lot, and my everyday makeup is similar to your style. However the reason I like Kaleidos is because of fun products like the Club Nebula pallet, their multi-chrome eyeliners and their previous overall aesthetic. I can’t deny their quality is good, it’s just that I have these products already. Plus I really dislike the cloth packaging.

I’m so glad that it is over for you and you are on the mend. I never bought anything from kaleidos these are tempting me for the first time. I have a viseart mini colorful palette and it’s rare I dip into that. So I’m all for muted shades.
