Awesome content. I have been bit by the guitar build bug and have spent the last week watching nothing but build videos. This has by FAR taught me the most. Your jig to keep neck at 90 deg while cutting was brilliant. It kinda blows my mind I have not seen others do this. Perhaps its pride thinking they are just that good but minimizing the risk of a crooked cut seems to be the smart method to me. As a machinist its those little things that will have me watching all of the rest of your content. So, thanks from Cali.

@@UnquendorGuitars yes sir I will send you some pics as soon as Its done. Probably another week or so.Im in the southern U.S. and the weather is still warm in the daytime but its colder at night squeo I'm having to use my garage with heaters in evenings so the paint cures right.I've chosen a really unique color arraignment. @@UnquendorGuitars No I had no idea it got flagged. It says Im in the southern United States and its warm in the day but its getting colder at night so I'm trying to get the paint job done as soon as possible. I have to use heaters in the garage at night to make sure it dries properly. Its been really cold and windy the last 3 nights so I haven't been able to finish last two base coats and I still have to clearcoat it. Its beginning to become a hassle.The worst part is I don't have anything else to play right now. Question: Do you have a website for selling your guitars? I would like to check it out if so. They are really beautiful and I bet they are amazing to play. I love the Floyd/Shaller bridge models.

Hi Daniel, many thanks for making these fantastic videos! I was wondering what sizes of Iwasaki files you worked through while shaping the volute please? Cheers!

Hi David, Thank you very much! The Iwasaki files I use are the 220mm long ones. And I have a flat and half round ones both in fine and medium coarse. I mostly use the half round fine one. I hope this answers your question.

perfect. Thanks. Do you know Shinto "Sägeraspel" (german), kind of saw rasp? Incredible stuff.

Hi Michael, Thank you. And... Yes, I use one in this video to flatten the back of the guitar and to do some of the carving. They are absolutely great tools, but these days I seem to prefer my Iwasaki carvers files though.

Hi Daniel, I didn't recognize the Shinto on the video. It seems Iwasaki carvers need to arrive here. ;)

Merci.

Found your channel while searching for help on my own first scratch build. Loving your content and instructions-some of which I will have to use on my next build. One question which I had problems with during shaping-how do you create such a clean transition line at the volute? With my files and sandpaper I ended up with a more blurry rounded edge-it works but it’s not what I was trying to accomplish.
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
Hi M S, Thank you very much. It's good to hear you're getting some useful information from my videos. Do you mean the transition at the headstock side or the neck side of the volute? At the headstock side I use a spindle sander and a fence to both get the headstock to the correct thickness and get the nice curvature for the volute in one go. Like I do in this video around 4:00. This also gives me a nice and clean ' line' at the highest point of the volute. At the neck side I use a variety of rasps, files and sandpaper. While shaping the volute I try to keep the ' top' of the volute as sharp as possible by only working on the 'neck side' of the volute. When you're just starting it takes practice and a lot of patience and it took me a couple before getting the hang of it. The first volutes I made I've spend several hours to get it the way I wanted it. Just take it slow. Think about what you're trying to achieve and pay close attention to what your tools are doing and you should be fine. It's very hard to explain this in tekst only but I hope it is somewhat helpful to you. If not, let me know and I might make a video about it. Good luck on your build!

@@UnquendorGuitars appreciate the quick reply. And yes, it was the neck side of the volute that I had issues with. I’ve jumped through some other of your uploads and once I get to watch them through you’ll be hearing again from me with more questions-hope that doesn’t get me black listed or something.

Hi Cédric, I unfortunately don't have these diagrams in a presentable format yet. I'm planning to set up a download page where the diagrams and schematics shown in my videos will be available for download, but unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment. As soon as it is available I will mention it in an upcoming video. In the meantime you might be able to pause the video and copy it from there. The diagram doesn't have to be to scale. It just shows the mathematical divisions and relations between the creation of each facet.
