I carry a fix blade and folder everyday. I live in an urban environment but now that I’m retired, I find myself doing repairs jobs on the fly instead of putting it off until later. I also volunteer in a food kitchen at my church. The fix blade comes in handy for opening boxes, sacks of fruit quickly and later cutting them down when cleaning up. Currently edcing the MKC Speed Goat under 3” blade.

The whole trend of mini fixed blades for EDC is a return to the Pukko. The return to the time when men were expected to have a knife on them at all times.

I'm a wannabe survivalist, an occasional outdoorsman, and a roofer by trade. I edc either my SR1 or an Esee Izula 2 (appendix carry). I can't tell you how much I love having the izula on me. It cuts tarps, opens ANY packaging, and could cut shingles (though I'd much rather use a utility knife for that). The sr1 can do all that too, but sometimes it's a bit much in the pocket. Happy Anniversary! Blessings to you and your bride!

I own several reiff knives and the overland sport by TJ Schwartz, to me is the most thought out edc fixed blade ever. The sheath is absolutely perfection not to mention the blade itself is phenomenal. I always find something I don’t like about every edc fixed blade I have but I’ve yet to find anything I don’t like about the overland sport. A quality sheath will make or break an edc fixed blade. It can be the greatest knife ever but if the sheath sucks then it’s a no go for me.

It's a good deal for someone if they insist on a USA made knife. Costs in the USA are just higher than they would be if it were made in Taiwan or elsewhere because we have a higher cost of living here. I'm not offering judgement as to whether this is good or bad, it just is. Some people are EXCEPTIONALLY insistent that their products be USA made. I don't share this idea, but I understand it.
@acid6urns2 ай бұрын
@@random_eskimo_in_the_rockiesi woukd agree but you can literally buy american made knives in this size with this same steel for even less. i bought a bradford guardian in vanadis 4 which is just basically 4v and it cost me $140 brand new. still made in the US. hell even a 3v bradford 5.5 is about the same price as this, and that’s a 5.5 inch full size knife. the 6 inch guardian 6 may even be a bit cheaper.

That Reiff looks like a great little fixed blade. I made a small Kephart knife out of an old file for my EDC. Three inch long high saber grind spear point blade and four inch Micarta handle. I bought a Bradford Knives Guardian leather sheath for it and carry the knife in my front pocket. It's a heavy duty knife that takes a lot of abuse and keeps cutting. I also have a White River Backpacker Pro and a Guardian 3.5. Both of them are fantastic pocket carry knives as well. There's plenty of smaller fixed blades to choose from for EDC. No reason not to have at least one.

Congrats on the anniversary! I'm beginning to think a small fixed blade could be nice for EDC, but I don't see the solution being a ~$300 knife in the current economy.

Well put on when a fixed blade is appropriate and when a folder is. I agree on office carry and places you would not need and full fixed blade. I full scandi ground one of each on my bench sander and high saber ground one of each with a convex secondary bevel. the last two I haven't touched for collectible purposes. Happy anniversary. My wife and I will celebrate our 29th on the 7th of October. Time flies. She barely tolerates my knife, gun, watch, shoes addictions, but I do the cooking which seems to satisfy her. My current edc is an izula 2 in scout carry with a boker strike (tactical fidget spinner) in my pocket. I carve and dabble with kolrosing, so I have a minimalist tanto, which is surprisingly effective for fine detail, around my neck and both a mora companion hd and spoon knife in a cargo pocket. I absolutely love the circadian, but I have a mora budget. I appreciated the comments about comfort because it’s so true that the expensive tools can allow you to stay with a project longer, but we have to make concessions, so I find your advice helps me navigate those constraints.

I can only imagine a fixed blade EDC being an advantage in use if you're doing extreme tasks with it like using it as a pry tool or hammering on it to get through tough materials. The other obvious advantage - no moving parts, no adjusting or oiling, nothing to be fixed. It would have been interesting to see this one up against a strong beefy folder like an AD-10 Lite, Real Steel H7 etc. with much better ergos than the Rat. I started carrying a small EDC fixed blade simply because I enjoy rotating different knives, not because I need extreme strength.

But for me it wouldn’t accomplish anything more than the knife on my leatherman wave. I do usually carry an eese 4, as it can do a lot more things than the wave. Like light chopping, batoning, pommeling, prying, and heaven for bid last ditch self defense. To me a small fixed EDC knife is for when you expect you need a small knife a bit stronger and/or easier to clean than your folding pocket knife. But at this pricepoint to me this small knife is missing the point like most of them. I sometimes throw a Mora Eldris in my pack or (cargo) pocket if I think it will get really dirty and slippery and/or want the full thick handle if I'm gonna do a lot of fine carving. So the review is good, but I don't see the purpose of this one at this pricepoint.
