Reiff is massively overpriced for what you get. The same knife by any other maker would be half the price.

It's a good deal for someone if they insist on a USA made knife. Costs in the USA are just higher than they would be if it were made in Taiwan or elsewhere because we have a higher cost of living here. I'm not offering judgement as to whether this is good or bad, it just is. Some people are EXCEPTIONALLY insistent that their products be USA made. I don't share this idea, but I understand it.

I don't understand why Reiff and benchmade fixed blades are so ridiculously overpriced. Nothing anyone says can justify these prices. A fixed blade is mostly machine made. Yet cost more then a folder. Plus this whole premise is marketing bull. Folders are built extremely strong. Unless you buy overpriced liner/frame lock. A good lock back will never fail doing real work. What exactly are people doing they need a fixed blade because their folder failed? What makes this knife worth its price? Branding ? The knife companies are treating people like we are fools . Maybe some are because they buy this ridiculous marketing.

Not sure exactly what size, style or function or price range you're looking for but the Ruike Hornet, Sencut Waxahachie, Kizer Harpoon are a few of my favorite budget fixes blades under $60. Cheaper than those I'll use the Artisan Cutlery sea snake($45), Swisstech Leicht($35), Cold steel mini tac bowie($20). Some of those china companies that most people dont like to support also have some decent options for ~$25-$35 (Watchman knives comes to mind).

I can't afford Reiff or Benchmade unfortunately. My first and still favorite small fixed blade is a Condor Bushbuddy, which I used gutted paracord to make a handle wrap for. It's 1075 carbon steel, comes with a kydex sheath, and I swapped out its beaded chain necklace for more gutted paracord. I used to also have a Condor Bushnecker, which I gave to my niece as a small self defense option. Anyhow, I have both the Ontario Rat-1 and 2 Folders in D2 steel, and the Rat-1 is a backup EDC for me, my primary being a Victorinox Rangergrip 78. Anyhow, I came to the Condor Bushbuddy because I was having arthritis issues in my hand, which made it hard to open and close my OKC Rat-1 hard at best, dangerous at worst. My Bushbuddy was around $25, so good steel, kydex sheath, reasonably priced. Sad that it's discontinued. For my purposes, EDC work knife, it works well, and is even a good mini prybar, whether opening MALICE Clips or for prying a quarter out of asphault. It can be used for some outdoor tasks, but I didn't have bushcraft in mind when I got it, I needed an EDC that wasn't a folder, and it's compact size made it easy to conceal under a plain T-Shirt, or over it when I have my work vest on. It can also ride in a pocket. I actually have two Bushbuddies, one still in its packaging.

I can only imagine a fixed blade EDC being an advantage in use if you're doing extreme tasks with it like using it as a pry tool or hammering on it to get through tough materials. The other obvious advantage - no moving parts, no adjusting or oiling, nothing to be fixed. It would have been interesting to see this one up against a strong beefy folder like an AD-10 Lite, Real Steel H7 etc. with much better ergos than the Rat. I started carrying a small EDC fixed blade simply because I enjoy rotating different knives, not because I need extreme strength.

Well put on when a fixed blade is appropriate and when a folder is. I agree on office carry and places you would not need and full fixed blade. During and now after COVID I went remote for work, so I do find I carry my small fixed blade more then a folder though. I carry a small CRKT Biwa. Slim and light weight.

That Reiff looks like a great little fixed blade. I made a small Kephart knife out of an old file for my EDC. Three inch long high saber grind spear point blade and four inch Micarta handle. I bought a Bradford Knives Guardian leather sheath for it and carry the knife in my front pocket. It's a heavy duty knife that takes a lot of abuse and keeps cutting. I also have a White River Backpacker Pro and a Guardian 3.5. Both of them are fantastic pocket carry knives as well. There's plenty of smaller fixed blades to choose from for EDC. No reason not to have at least one.

I tried a MKM Pocket Tango for an EDC fixed blade. Great knife, but I'm not sure the concept is for me. I like horizontal cross draw belt carry, but I prefer a standard pocket folder clipped in my pocket. Rarely do I need the advantages of a fixed blade.

I have come to believe a fixed blade EDC is a MUST have. My current rotation includes an extended handled S35VN Izula, the Spyderco Enuff 2 in K390, and my most current carry is the new Pacaya from Esee (made by White River Knives.) I'm convinced a fixed blade offers convenience and reliability both. The CPM-3V in the Pacaya is incredible.

I don't see the place of the mini fixed. From the ones that I have bought and taken the handle scales off, the tangs are not full, they are skeletonized full tang. The purpose of a fixed blade is extra strength but if the tang is skeletonized to the point that most of them are, there is not enough of a strength difference IMHO to warrant not carrying a really well designed and built folding knife. Mini fixed just don't make any sense. Sorry, my opinion. Most if not all of them are NOT a solid piece of metal again its been cut all too pieces and those tangs under those scales look like swiss cheese. I've also contact many companies directly via email and asked about tang construction as I only want a full tang and not skeletonized, and full tangs are the very rare exception and not the rule. Not to mention on these mini fixed blades the handles are too short to get a good grip on it if you have large hands (3.75") wide, these small knives are gonna disappear in your hand. Again, sorry man just my take.

Happy anniversary. My wife and I will celebrate our 29th on the 7th of October. Time flies. She barely tolerates my knife, gun, watch, shoes addictions, but I do the cooking which seems to satisfy her. My current edc is an izula 2 in scout carry with a boker strike (tactical fidget spinner) in my pocket. I carve and dabble with kolrosing, so I have a minimalist tanto, which is surprisingly effective for fine detail, around my neck and both a mora companion hd and spoon knife in a cargo pocket. I absolutely love the circadian, but I have a mora budget. I appreciated the comments about comfort because it’s so true that the expensive tools can allow you to stay with a project longer, but we have to make concessions, so I find your advice helps me navigate those constraints.

Interesting video. Reiff is a new brand to me. Never seen them or heard of them. One thing I want to me is I have many knives in my rotation. Funny thing is I discovered a great fixed blade that I now carry on a daily basis. What I want to share is it has a ballistic nylon sheath. Not kydex. The overall size and weight of the knife and sheath just makes it easy and comfortable for regular stuff. Kydex is cool but I think it’s worth considering.

Mini fixes blades are a great backup/ heavy user. My favorite is the CS mini Pendleton. It's less than $100 and still in 3V.
