Didn't realise early access to UE5 was already available but it's great to see you're able to confirm that from your hands-on experience with UE5 that these processes will be exactly the same and we can just learn it now and immediately implement it when the new engine is out.
@bernhard.rieder3 жыл бұрын
UE5 seems to be a huge deal with their new render engine that’s going to be implemented. But so far, all other things will most likely stay the same. Can’t imagine they would change the user interface or any other major things of the engine. So yes, what you’ll pick up now and learn will be definitely useable for the very soon upcoming Unreal Engine 5.

I'm a product designer with a background of professional photography and graphic design. If I asked the question: What can I do with Unreal Engine to visualise new products and colour variations / run photoshoots on parametric model and physical photogrammetry captured products and generate endless visuals for social media? If I'd asked that question, which I did, your video would be the perfect perfect answer. I lost my mind when you changed the lighting on the car and when you showed the depth of the camera setting control. I just build an AMD5950/3080rtx workstation to get ready for UE5. I think it'll transform the way I bring products to market. Thanks you so much for giving me an overview of the exact workflows I'll be using for visualisations.....and all in your second language. Incredible effort and work. Brilliant.
@bernhard.rieder3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Great to see that my video tutorial was spot on. I am talking since years to Designers and Design companies explaining them the benefits. At the end it’s of course a lot to learn. That’s why I usually recommend companies to work together and team up. CMF studies, lighting and different environments can be visualized. A digital product and photography studio that allows you do create what ever you want. Stills and animations plus Experiences. Games in run time and VR.
@funkfreeze3 жыл бұрын
@@bernhard.rieder So right. One of the products I design and manufacture is guitar straps. If I wanted to introduce a new colour, I would buy the leather and then make a launch batch, then run do a photoshoot. With Unreal, I could create the new colour strap with a colour reference swatch and show it to customers to pre-order, which removes the risk and launch batch production costs. Wonderful. I could also use megascans/quixel to do the 'shoot' in the middle of the desert and make the thing look like a surreal album cover. Unlimited possibilities. I just need to get my guitar strap model created.
@funkfreeze3 жыл бұрын
@@bernhard.rieder Actually, what method would you recommend for a simple model like a leather guitar strap? Maybe use Blender to create something and import into Unreal, or photogrammetry? Could a super realistic and detailed model be made in Unreal? I need to make something that would stand up to high res scrutiny. Hope you don't mind me asking your opinion on which software to use for that.
@bernhard.rieder3 жыл бұрын
@@funkfreeze that's right, you are spot on.

@@funkfreeze It's for sure best if you create a 3d model from scratch. So you have full control over the mesh, and the uvws, texture, and so on. Blender is free and has all you need. But of course, you can use any other 3d modeling software you prefer. 3dsmax, Maya, Cinema 4D, etc.

No need to re-assign texture maps, or to create new materials and to assign it to the model. But you can still change the assigned materials. Depending on what .fbx import settings or plugins you use.. it's also possible... but most of the time.. you have missing texture maps, and you need to do all manually. Another reason I love to use Datasmith FBX Import and Datasmith GLTF Importer... they did an amazing job to get this done right. And whenever I use any other tool outside of Unreal... you want to use Datasmith for export and import. Because it's a container, a bridge in between the software packages. And whenever someone works inside of 3dsmax... and has changed something.. those changes can be saved out into the datasmith file, which serves as a container... and once somebody releases an update.. all you have to do inside of Unreal.. click Realod... boom.. no need to check what specific fbx object was imported before, or changed.. or you need to delete, or keep... it's huge if you want to have fewer troubles and a much smarter and efficient workflow. for every production house.. I just see $$$... That's what I always loved doing.. and still today.. geeking out on the best and most efficient workflow.. because it's business-related.. time is always traded for $$$... I hope overall this explanation helps a bit. Cheers

@bernhard.rieder3 жыл бұрын
Not quite sure what you mean with the Audi Cars. Big Brands usually don’t give their 3D CAD Data away. It’s very sensitive Data. You have two options. You work directly with the Brand or an Agency that has the CAD Data and you are authorized to use their 3D models for your project / architectural visualization. Or, you just find 3D models that have been created from scratch from 3D Modeling Artists. You might find them for free (very rare to find good models for free) or you purchase them. 3D Modeling Artists put a lot of Hours into their work. But like shown in this Beginner Tutorial and explained in the 3D Geometry Chapter, you can search for free 3D models on various platforms and import them using the Datasmith Plugin. Does this answer your question?

Thanks for making this. Very useful tips! I had a question about lighting though. We're making a VR game in UE4 which has a persistent level, a start screen level (pick character, load game, etc) and then a handful of game map levels that stream in/out depending on the player location. The map levels are varied environments, so have different sky spheres, weather, etc. In terms of lighting, should we have seperate lighting settings (post process, lightmass importance volume, etc) for each bit of map (with only a skylight in the persistent level, since you can only have one per world)? Or what exactly do you put in the persistent level for a VR open world game?
@bernhard.rieder3 жыл бұрын
Not quite sure if I can follow your question or situation. But when you create a game, you have different levels. Each level has a different scenario and different lighting. You optimize each level for maximum performance. Especially when using VR you want to bake and keep the performance steady. I hope that kinda helps and gets this discussion started.
@LDT7Y3 жыл бұрын
@@bernhard.rieder Sorry, I probably worded that incorrectly! For my game we have (for example) 12 levels. Each level is part of a city, and as the player moves around, the levels get loaded in/out as the player reaches a boundary of a streaming volume. Sometimes three levels are loaded in at once (say, if it's a long, open stretch of land), sometimes only one, if they are standing inside a room and don't need to see the outside. I was watching a couple of other tutorials that had the nav mesh, post process, lightmass importance volume, VR controller, skylight and skybox all in the persistent level. So I initially thought that was how it worked. Then in other videos I've watched, people had seperate settings for those in every level, which makes more sense. Other videos don't mention them at all. But having watched more, I'm now thinking the only thing I need in the persistent level is the skylight (since when I try to put a seperate one in each level it tells me I can only have one per world). Then I guess the player start has to be in the persistent level, but lined up so that the player is standing in the right spot in the start menu and then again in the first 'game world' level. Then for loading a saved game, you override that so that the player starts in the last location they logged out. Thinking out loud now! ; D
@bernhard.rieder3 жыл бұрын
@@LDT7Y Yes, each Level is kinda independent. So you need to optimize each level. I am not sure if you want to mix level. I think this is not possible. Each Level will be treated as it's own level. Does this make sense? If not, join me on my slack channel and we can also chat or zoom on the weekend. ps: I am also continuing to develop VR Experiences for the Quest2. I am rendering with the sequencer. Lights are not assigned to the sequencer, and I just turn off the visibility inside the world outliner. Isn't there any way, to just keep those lights turned off when rendering with the sequencer?
@bernhard.rieder3 жыл бұрын
yes there is. You can either turn off the lights in the world itself. Select the light - Rendering - Visible - Off But it's usually better, if you drag and drop the lights to your sequencer, and control them there. Because if you have multiple shots, and you want to change the lighting position, intensity, angle, color, etc. That's the way to do it.

Hey hoh... and thank you. Architectural Rendering is very similar. You can also see that I am importing a lot of architectural objects - single family homes 🏡. It’s the same process. But if you want to create interactive walkthroughs there is much more to it. You need to bake everything to keep the performance up. Lightmass GPU is a great new feature doing that. And of course, to prepare everything for a nice VR Experiences you’ll need to chose different target platforms. Create interactive Blueprints to interact with in game geometry. @OrpheusTheDragon3 жыл бұрын
@@bernhard.rieder I think so. But tomorrow I'll check it again. Yes, all actors added in the sequencer. Sorry, but a must switch to German. Ich habe eine Szene wo der Charakter in einer Idle Pose steh und nach 2-3 Sekunden angeschossen wird und zu Boden geht. Das wird von 3 Kameras aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven gefilmt. In 3 unterschiedliche Level Sequenzen.
