The original shading style used is perfectly suited for a modern Zelda game, such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The main element that I like about the shading choice is the dreamy quality. It's a common technique that movie producers use to indicate that a character in the movie is dreaming or something. They make everything hazy and bloomy, and they also slightly slow down the film, although it's barely noticeable unless you pay very close attention. These combinations of effects are how you accurately achieve the dreamy, hazy look. I realized that most people, like myself, tend to watch game reviews on KZbin via phones and tablets. That's why I decided to enhance this game by adding high-contrast realistic shaders. I believe that extra contrast always makes games look great when viewed on devices. However, while the high-contrast realistic shaders make the game look good, they take away the dreamy, hazy look. The hazy, dreamy aesthetic is the main quality that I enjoyed, and in my opinion, it's how a modern version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time should look. I tried to incorporate elements of both styles, even though I know it may seem contradictory because you usually either want it crisp and clear or dreamy, and it's hard to have both. However, I attempted to achieve both elements to make them stand out more and be noticeable, especially when viewing on smaller devices like phones or tablets. I'm using a generic post-processing injector, but the modifications I'm making are not native to the system. The downside of not doing things natively is that the modifications affect everything on the screen, which can be problematic for the HUD. To compensate, I usually remove the HUD or any other elements that might interfere. However, in this case, I couldn't do that because it's Zelda, and the game wouldn't be the same without the HUD and other elements. I wish I could make these changes using the native tools, but I'm not familiar with Unreal Engine.
I made these changes on a PC monitor with sRGB mode enabled, so you may need to reduce the brightness settings on your phone or tablet to see the intended effect. I want to clarify that the changes I've made are not meant to improve upon the original intent; I'm simply trying to enhance certain elements that may not be clearly visible on smaller devices like phones or tablets.
