According to that video you linked, Link's estimated maximum velocity in that height record was 533 m/s. Even though his launch was larger, you are still currently the fastest maximum velocity recorded (unless there is footage of faster that I'm unaware of, of course). I believe that his alignment under the chasm with his paracopter design at the lava floor allowed for a more efficient travel arc to the sky ceiling, enabling a larger launch with lower maximum velocity.

I love easily accessible movement glitches that require minimal setup, so this seems like just my thing. The vertical TOTK version of a bomb impact launch. I loved the BIL in BOTW and was sad to see it go, but this is actually just better
@Hydrargyrum-80 Жыл бұрын
According to my calculations, the velocity for the launch that reached the height limit was about 19.3 meters per frame, which gives about 579m/s or Mach 1.6886. I sampled 180 frames of the z coordinates of Link moving up from the glitch to calculate acceleration (which seems to be constant in this case) to be .03253m/frames^2. This allowed for using the kinematics formula Δx=vt+(1/2)at^2 to find Link's initial vertical velocity by finding a time in the earlier launch which has about the same position as a time in the largest launch, and setting vt+(1/2)at^2 of the largest launch equal to vt+(1/2)at^2 for the earlier launch. Since the initial vertical velocity of the earlier launch, the time for the earlier launch to that positions, the time for the largest launch to that position, and the acceleration are all known, the only unknown in the vertical velocity of largest launch, which means I could solve for it. The position I used was as Link was near the rock seen at frame 12 of 18:53 in the original launch and frame 12 of 22:58. This gave a vertical initial velocity for the largest launch of about 18.21379m/frame. Assuming the horizontal velocity for Link was about the same as the original launch, this gives the total velocity of about 19.3m/frame, if my math is not wrong. It is quite possible I messed up my math somewhere, but I think the number should be about correct.
@paradox_guardian Жыл бұрын
The deep40k max height launch? Yes that sounds about right! There is a very good chance that that launch went faster, as it didn’t need to contend with rocks. Maybe I should try to see the top speed I can get. It’s just a pain to measure them.
@Chris_Myers. Жыл бұрын
Just for comparison's sake, we can also get rough averages from the known times and distances covered. For example, here are some imprecise numbers to start: One: 18:50-18:54 + 18:59-19:11, 4185 m / 16 seconds = 261.6 m/s Two: 22:55-22:59 + 23:05-23:15, 4317 m / 14 seconds = 308.6 m/s

We can actually determine a minimum speed for Link! He goes up 4317 m in some number of seconds t. Acceleration due to gravity in Hyrule being g, we know that for a certain speed v, the height reached is equal to v^2/2g. Rearranging this equation, we get v = sqrt(2gh). The acceleration due to gravity in Hyrule has been determined to be 37.81 m/s^2. Therefore, the minimum speed for Link to launch from the bottom to the top of the world would have been sqrt(2*37.81*4317) = 571.36 m/s, or mach 1.67.

That was an interesting video! Could you do some explanations to build your constructions?

Check my channel! I have tutorials for the paracopter. I’d recommend part 2.

Man, these videos are simultaneously awesome and also sad cos they remind me how little imagination I have 😆. I could have literally walked into a prebuilt paracopter and not managed to think of this lol. Great job!

This is some wonderful editing with a compelling retelling of events that in no great way will affect my life... but goddamn if it wasn't satisfying in the end.

I did enjoy this as much as you did. Such a great job on the whole video, I love this!

This is so beautiful. As someone who enjoys game breaking and speedrun, and knows a few who do these things, I'm very very impressed by the efforts put in finding this. Still on my first casual playthrough and haven't get to experiment as much.

modding community can get us further, mod the depths below a chasm opening to go to the game's lower coordinate limit by removing all the ground of the depths under one chasm, and make terrain at the floor limit to make and execute the launch, im certain we can still bang the cieling limit from there

well, you can take link's vertical deceleration into account, and calculate his top speed using the time it took to reach the top. I'm kinda tired so I won't actually do the calculation but it's probably something like this X(t) = X0 + v0t + 0.5at^2 replace X(t) with the final height replace X0 with the initial height replace t with the time it took to get to the top of the world replace a with his aerial deceleration then it's just basic algebra to find v0 which is the speed at the start it's gonna look something like 3292 = -1025 + v0(about 14 seconds because of the loading) + 0.5(insert here deceleration)14^2 4317 = 14V0 + 0.5a * 196 (4317 - a*98)/14 = V0 = top speed whoever's willing to do some digging and find his vertical deceleration rate, just plug in a as the thing and simplify the equation and voila you have the top speed
