Not because I'm a game developer or interested in getting hired at a company for game development, but simply because the process is interesting for me to watch and I like your comedic style of explaining a usually serious and sometimes mundane task of programming.

Being able to cover Unreal in 100 seconds is totally Unreal...!! On the serious note Unreal is massive piece of software. Taming it fully is quite a task. It's not something one can learn over weekend(proper learning). Each of the sub systems of Unreal is worth studying even if you don't plan to do any Game developments. If you are in College and you think u know C++...give a shot to Unreal C++. All of sudden the weird macros and odd syntaxes will feel like u don't know anything about C++. However, it has a purpose for such a design. Compiling Unreal on ur machine will give ur PC run for its money.

@wowvain2989

@@xrgmer339 you don't have to restart unreal ever. just compile the code using your favorite IDE or by clicking on the compile button in the engine interface and you're good to go. but yes, depending on what you change, the recompiling might take a while

@@wowvain2989 Alright, then it seems like a problem on my part. I quickly noticed the limitations of VS and tried Rider instead, It did fix some problems but I still have to restart the whole editor for stuff to work. It seems quite odd as I've recently reset Windows from scratch via an external, fresh download of Windows, while formatting my drives, resetting everything. It still reproduces the same errors after I reinstalled the editor. Thank you for the help, I will continue to search for a solution.

@thatfish3951
@thatfish3951 2 жыл бұрын
I saw an explanation where using both would be ideal for high scope projects, using C++ for lower level programming and blueprints for upper level programming. IE: C++ for core game mechanics, blueprints for materials,vfx,sound, etc.

@@thatfish3951 the base rule of the thumb is to not use blueprints for anything that has a high time complexity or that is called every frame. for event callbacks or stuff like that its perfectly fine but when its some code that its run very often you should go for C++

Good video, but one small critique that I had. There’s 3 thing that I would have love to see displayed or mentioned. 1) when you displayed example of platform to compile to I would have find nice to include a linux logo. It’s not the most popular os but linux gaming is a thing and unreal can export for it natively. 2) Missed the opportunity to mentioned that the whole engine is open source. 3) Last small thing, there’s no mention that you can do C++ in unreal. But I get it most people will use blueprints, but if visual scripting is not your thing or you need to optimize a piece of blueprint it’s handy to be able to do it in C++. Overalls the video is concise and shows a lot of what makes unreal nice to work with and 3 minutes is c’early not enough to say everything about an engine like unreal. I enjoyed it 😊

Great vid as usual! Just an FYI I found the background music/ticking was really distracting and made it hard to hear you.

Unreal is an incredibly deep software. You can study it for months and still feel like you've barely broken the surface of what you can do.

Good tutorial for starter people, guys, i am a experienced game environment artist, and i also working with a team for releasing a indie game coming this year. and believe me guys, unreal itself is a black hole and its not that easy just to make games and release games, we have been making a game for already 4-5 years, I dont wanna scare people but again dont judge that unreal engine is that easy. And if anyone is interested in knowning our project XD, its "Rattest". We are releasing tralier next month.
