Alexander Brandon went on to do the music for Deus Ex less than 2 years later. You can really feel the influence of Return to Na Pali in Deus Ex.

Catzilla Actually that is just Brandon's style. You can hear these motifs repeat in almost all of his work. Very distinctive.

I don't know if you still check these comments or not Tuthor, but thank you so much for posting these. This music reminds me of how amazed I was when I first played Unreal, and is a big part of the reason why I played (and still do play on occasion) all of the Unreal/UT titles. This track and "surfacing" in particular are special to me, since I used them in some of my earliest UT99 maps at the start of my career. In fact, I think I'm going to go boot up UnrealEd right now, thanks to you!

This is one of the oldest tracks, I think. It was composed in '96 or something like that, under the name "Black Wind", and was meant to be used in the Temple of Velora.

I remember playing Unreal when I was younger, and loving it of course, but I never played Return to Na Pali. Much more recently I acquired the Gold Edition, and while I was a little disappointed that Return to Na Pali didn't add much content (just three new weapons and three seldom encountered enemy types), I still completely love it. Both Unreal and this mission pack have a great atmosphere, including awesome music like this. I played through the original three more times, and Return to Na Pali probably four or five times. I can never get enough of these two, music included. Great music is so important in adding to the atmosphere of the game, and 3:09 in this song just nails it.

Hello, I suggest you try Return to Na Pali: Ultimate Edition - it's a mod for UT where RtNP levels are mixed with maps from Unreal's Beta, like Mercenary spaceship or temple dedicated to Skaarj warlord. There is also music from Beta which IMO is just as good as tracks that made it into the game. Nice stuff.

You and me both dude. I discovered that Unreal Tournament 99 had a singleplayer game before that in 2012 and was hooked on this game from start to finish. Absolutely wonderful game and the base game plus the expansion is probably my favourite FPS of the 90's

I just love when good video game music like this just adds so much more to the game-play and overall experience. It's almost like a Zen, sixth sense bullshit kind of thing with how it adds to things when it's that good. It just meshes and blurs all together so nicely. Foundry and Bounds of Foundry are probably up there as some of my favorite maps from UG/RTNP U1-Beta (yeah it was a recycled cut map from the beta's if you didn't know.) And yes, Boundary is very well designed and it's atmosphere on just build and sound design alone is very good. It's just a great map. I ask you this though. Would it be as amazing and beautiful of an experience if the music wasn't this amazing? Music is just as important to a video game as anything else, even if it's not immediately obvious. It can add this Ethereal sense of feeling that's not quite as noticeable if the music isn't there to bleed into the experience.

too true, the music is so good that it adds a layer of atmosphere to this game, it just that good.

I always liked this song, just because the melody and beat. At some point, I even made lyrics for em...But I don't have a singing voice so I never did anything with it. I should reinstall my Total Unreal Pack.

Everytime I hear this or any other unreal song, I always think of DBZ fights going with it. Like this song for instance, I always pair it up with Ssj2 Gohan vs. Cell, where the beginning of the song starts off with Gohan transforming while everyone stops fighting to see in amazement, to the fast pace action part of where he gets the Sensu Beans and goes off fighting the Cell Jrs. Yes, Unreal songs truly make things MORE EPIC.

History of Unreal Music includes this as "Black Wind", but not the fast section, despite that it follows directly in the orders list and is visible in all players. What's with the floating volume level after 4:00 ?
