Sorry about the sound quality, but this is an old 78 rpm demo by Johnny, Luther, and Marshall in Memphis in July 1955. They are covering the earlier Elvis Sun record ¨That's All Right¨ but the recording is tentative at best, with Luther unable to replicate the guitar of Scotty Moore. Cash was not so comfortable with rockabilly but sure gave it his best here. The 78 was found in West Memphis in an estate sale along with some KWEM literature and other records. Doubtless the tape was erased soon after the recording was made.

I agree it's not Johnny. The scratchiness has obviously been dubbed over the music. What gets me is why do people try to pass this stuff off as authentic when it is actually a pretty good impression and I'd be equally impressed if they just said "here's my version of what Johnny would've sounded like on a Sun acetate".

KWEM had a Presto acetate cutter on site. Howlin Wolf and Ike Turner also recorded at KWEM as did the Delmore Brothers, Ensco Hankins and others.

I doesnt sound like Johnny Cash. Not even a good imitation. It is obviously a new recording with noise added.

This was recorded at KWEM Radio Station in 1955 in West Memphis. Johnny Cash also recorded a demo of "Rock and Roll Ruby" that was recorded by Warren Smith and the Snearly Ranch Boys at SUN Records. The Ranch Boys performed 5 days a week at the Cotton Club in West Memphis.

Rock and Roll Ruby became the biggest selling SUN release at that time and outsold everything that Elvis had recorded at SUN. That benchmark was only good for about a month as Carl Perkins released "Blues Suede Shoes" (Carl was managed by KWEM's Dick "Poor Richard" Stuart who was Charlie Feathers brother-in-law). Do you have any info on the sale and the artifacts. Contact me at kwemradio@gmail.com.

If your going to cover Luther Perkins, then using the solo from Cry Cry Cry isn't the best way to start
