While TRMD is too tough for me, as I don't have a good grasp on the long-term shipping rates potential, that doesn't mean you can't periodically find compelling stocks trading at deep discounts with obvious growth. For example, earlier this year I called out Fairfax Financial (FRFHF), which in full disclosure, I still own. If you're looking for more compelling ideas, come check out www.unrivaledinvesting.com

I am in shipping and there are several additional factors to consider. Book value is questionable as the second hand market prices swing significantly. You cannot add tankers to the market as the earliest slots available at shipyards are for 2028 or 2o29 and the containership markets are gobbling those which creates a massive crunch and foght to get NB slots. There are upcoming environmental requirements that forces you to look in detail at the fleet. How old are the ships, which fuel do they use,... where the ships operate (tax on carbon in Europe coming). I think there is potential for the tanker market.

Marks purchased at $7, sold some off when the price was in the $40s and basically makes 100% on the investment every year in dividends. Hugely profitable venture for Oaktree.

For a similar situation, I like GSL Global Ship Lease, Inc. They own the ships, but lease them out. So, they are somewhat insulated from shipping rate fluctuations. Today, they're 0.55 price / tangible book, 2.38 price / earnings, 8.43% annual dividend rate.

I've also been interested in tankers/carriers lately - mostly for LNG though. Thank you for the video!

If you go for the Greek tankers, you will be disappointed. They screen cheap for a reason

Oaktree Capital Management acquired a 99.2% stake in Torm, on July 13, 2015, in a debt-for-equity swap worth $1.38 billion.

The clean petroleum product tanker sector is facing a very challenging time right now. One major issue is the influx of dirty tankers (like VLCCs) transitioning into the clean sector. This has increased the supply of vessels, which in turn drives down TCE rates. Specifically for Torm, there's the issue of share dilution - roughly 10% on a CAGR basis. Additionally, their fleet is aging, which means lower efficiency (around 15% less than newer vessels under 10 years old) and, consequently, lower TCE rates.

I believe Howard Marks sticks to corporate debt. I'm not sure how involved he is with equity selection

I looked into several names on the Oaktree list that I didn't know...a lot of cats and dogs. I expected better from Howard Marks.

It's not easy to find and neutralize Houthi threats. The Saudis fought them for years and couldn't do it. There's lots of tough terrain to hide their forces.

None on TRMD either. SG stocks are consistent, they never move up. Market is too small.

$35 dollars a share.. they are way too optimistic ...
@international_dividend22 күн бұрын
Zero doubt it will be at $35 again within the next decade, but it will probably be below $10 at some stage too. Shipping rates go up and down. They'll blow up again at some point, at such point the stock will take off... then dive.

What a bad channel. Oaktree bought this stock in 1Q 2018. It’s a bit late for you to talk about it now. You talk as if he recently bought this stock. That is so misleading and disingenuous. Go get a real job.

That's not accurate. I call out that they have been invested for nearly a decade
