UNRWA funding cuts: Why is Israel trying to destroy the UN aid agency for Palestinian refugees?

The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), considered a lifeline for two million people in the besieged enclave, has suffered funding cuts after several of its staff were accused by Israel of involvement in the October 7 Hamas attack.
The UN on Saturday said that it had terminated nine out of 12 staff over the allegations and vowed to hold its employees accountable, but expressed its shock at the swift funding cut by several Western countries amid a humanitarian disaster in Gaza, which has been devastated by nearly four months of Israel’s aerial and ground war.

During the events of October 7, several Israeli citizens expressed concern about the slowness of the army in coming to their aid. They waited for hours in hiding before being rescued. The ease with which Hamas members penetrated the border was surprising! I would bet that the state of Israel had something to do with these attacks. With the hostage taking it gave them a reason to justify their attacks on Palestine. Notice how they are in no rush to free the hostages. For the state of Israel, the hostages are valuable where they are right now. They serve as pawns. Let's be clear! I am a UN employee and this outrages me…BUT I am disappointed on how UNRWA and the SG have handled the whole thing. We knew from the start Israel would do something like this (they always make these allegations and it was just a matter when), and Israel coming up with this after the ICJ resolution was a big punch but not a surprising one. HOW is it that they are handling the whole thing so bad? It almost seems that they handed and admission of guilt to avoid the defunding and expected donor nations to do the responsible thing, as if we hadn’t seen enough of their openly pro-Israel stance. Now UN staff in Gaza are left scrambling, UN around the world is avoiding the issue, and 1.5 million Palestinians are closer to starvation than we dare think….

The UN's leaders prefer to maintain the Palestinians' refugees status because they get tons of money and power in behalf of the "Palestinian cause". The UN have 2 refugees agencies - UNHCR for around 100mil refugees around the world, and UNRWA only for the Palestinians. It's just absurd that the Palestinians still see themselves as refugees for 75 years. They could already have their own country but their leaders have refused any attempt for peace during the history (including the Oslo and Camp David talks in the 90s and 00s) and have never offered an alternative. Their "refugees camps" are actually proper cities. Their leaders are corrupted, they prefer to get the money coming from donations, keep the people poor, and always blame Israel for all their problem. They teach their ppl about war and revenge (over events from the last century in which both sides weren't flawless) instead of peace and compromise. They never really try to SOLVE the problem but they rather USE the problem for their own good.....

Mostly they haven't rebuilt their lives. Look at the Afghans in Pakistan. They left when the Russians invaded, and went to Pakistan where they are being evicted after 40 years or so. Look at the Sudanese constantly fleeing and returning. Look at the Rohingar still in vast camps in Cox's Bazaar in Bangladesh in terrible conditions. Look at the displaced people in Syria. So Gaza isn't an exception. It only means that they have been displaced for over 70 years. So one of the longest.
