This was a very powerful documentary. More evidence to prove why even in 2022 mental health issues are the legacy of the troubles on all sides . More effort is need by MLAs to treat this curse now. And all people of northern ireland and all communities can start living there lives instead being haunted and held by the past .from a son of a policeman who has been battling PTSD and depression since i was child due to the troubles. Even at the age of 44 im still effected by the past every day. I know i am not alone. There is help out there and you can get through this . God bless

They remind me of the women of Hessle Road in Hull in 1968. Lily Bilocca took on the trawler owners and won after the loss of three trawler crews. It's a class thing. Power to the Starry Plough.
@1916jamesconnolly2 жыл бұрын
@@trevorcourtney7457 that is a good comparison Trevor. Those Hull Women are exactly the same kind of tough working class women who wouldn't back down. It was the women of the Falls Road who came out en masse to break the Falls Road Curfew and the British army could do nothing. When the working class unite the ruling class quake.

The trauma the children of this time went through must now have effected their lives as adults. A child growing up in any situation thinks its normal when it really wasn't normal. The British have got q lot to anwser for. I was born in the UK in the 80s growing up I thought the Ira were bad bad People. As I get older and have read up on the history it actually makes me very angry. Just who do the British think they are the sheer audacity of Westminster. They did it in India and Pakistan palestine, Hong Kong and the opium wars. The slave trade. Its the most basic instinct to fight for your freedom if you're oppressed. One ireland, ruled by the Irish for the Irish, protestant or Catholic. Forgiveness is a good thing, but never ever forget. I really sincerely hope there is a lasting peace in Northern Ireland. I think the nationalist population will outnumber the unionists soon and then there will be a mandate for a vote of unification. I don't believe innocent people should have died on any side. I don't have a dog in this race but when I hear from the old Ira guys you can tell they was doing it for the cause, people like mad dog ardair and the uvf were just straight thugs. They just killed any Catholic they could.

You are incredibly misinformed about the whole situation, if you for one minute think that either side is better or more justified than the other then your ‘research’ isn’t very extensive! Both sides did despicable things to each other and innocent civilians!! The IRA and all the branches of them plus the UDA, UVF and all other groups are lunatic’s!! The IRA killed maimed and slaughtered and tortured, literal hundreds of people with zero connection to a unified Ireland!! Just because they could!! Feckin Englishman read a few books and think they know!! That whole country is filled with lunatics! Who give the descent innocent folks a bad name!!
@geoffirwin39522 жыл бұрын
no winners we all just lost & the only sense spoken was by the poor wife of trade unionist shot dead like so many on both sides for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There are 2 sides to every story & that's something you'll never find in an Irish American documentary. Same tears different graves.

In 2022, the demographics flipped. RCs now outnumber Prods in the North. Not that it matters since many Catholics are comfortable with the Union now. And that lot votes.

When immigrating to Canada in 1981, I met a young Belfast guy on my flight who was heading for Boston. We touched down at Shannon duty free terminal an decided to go in to the bar for a few pints of Guinness. This guy after swilling his first pint suddenly grew horns. He statred to get very aggressive with the bar staff and when I pointed out that they were just doing their job, he turned on me. Saying he was going shoot me in the head if I didnt shut up. Woh ! If that is what the troubles did to humans I am glad I was brought up in the industrial roughhouse of west Lanarkshire ! Where getting your head kicked in on a Saturday night was the norm.

The bomb that’s talked about is actual two incidents. The first in 72 (that’s my house in the gap with the yellow door) was a premature, (possible i believe now jigged or tamped with) car bomb that went off killing the four (possible 5) IRA volunteers and three or four civilians. By the time this second video was made loyalists bombed the strand bar at the end of the street (the one that old Dickys taking about) The victims were. Elizabeth Carson, was a 64-year-old Roman Catholic civilian and widow. Agnes McAnoy, was a 62-year-old Roman Catholic civilian, married amd with three children Mary McAleavey, was a 57-year-old Roman Catholic civilian, married and with eleven children Marie Bennett, was a 42-year-old Roman Catholic civilian, married and with seven children One week later on 19th April 1975, Michael Mulligan became a sixth victim. Michael was a 33-year-old Roman Catholic civilian and was single. They were murdered in a UVF bomb attack on the Strand Bar in Short Strand. The bombers blocked the door with a piece of wood to trap the customers inside. Locals claimed the bombers were laughing as they blocked the door. The bomb exploded at 8:12pm.

Thanks very much for the information my friend. My second channel has a series called 'Lost Lives' - its a constant project I work on where I use the google number generator to select a victim from the book 'Lost Lives' and then I make a short video. The Strand bombing was selected last month and here is the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHuZq5KEbbZnopI Its a work in progress - I will be revisiting this video at some point down the line to improve it.

There is a great movie on KZbin called "77" featuring the lot of a young English soldier getting seperated from his platoon in a riot and finding himself a pawn stuck between all three factions. The Loyalists, the Nationalists and the English. Great acting from all involved.

I can add some context them if you like. For example that street junction where Nora is would be the murder spot of my uncle Francy in the videos son Paul McCrory and his co worker friend Marius O’Neill at the hands of the UFF in 79. Paul was shot over 16 times. Later a young guy called Tucker McNulty was murder in 81 by the UVF again. At the end of the street 18 year old Tony Dawson was shot dead by an off duty RUC man. Just in that one spot.

Quite terrifying the absolute indoctrination, I’m not surprised it wasn’t shown. Whilst young people all over the world are going out enjoying themselves and going to bands and concerts and living life as only the young can and singing to the cure, or the Smiths or even Spandau Ballet these lost generation have their dreams lost forever and sing to folks that horrifically slaughtered women and children with bombing, and when they ask “don’t you wish it was normal” the poor thing says no
