This house with that front porch was amazing! The family dynamics were dangerous. Passive aggressiveness, a man who can't think for himself, volatile relationship with the women, no boundaries m-i-l (been there), living in a house that isn't hers (been there too)...This is about the most toxic concoction for a married couple! Yikes! This video is 4 years old. I wonder where they are now?

@@lizzie1897 Hormone imbalance can cause personality change for some women. I had a great aunt who became so unstable during her cycle that she was institutionalized. Incidentally, she was released with hormone therapy but giving birth is what righted her hormones. Postpartum depression is another condition based on hormones. Some women get the opposite effect when pregnant while others are not really effected at all. I am glad that you had a very positive experience. If they do go in for counseling, it would be helpful to have the mother-in-law and father-in-law participate at some point. He seems like the peacemaker in the group. Lastly, we have no idea what questions the show asked, what information the participants volunteered and how the show was edited.

Unless you've lived with a manipulative MIL for a while you could never understand. I did. We started out as friends, Giggling, telling stories, she even convinced us that I should give up the place I had and move in with her to "save money" to buy our own place by splitting bills with her. We ended up paying all the bills, for her, us, her other 2 sons she moved in with us, and a nephew she moved in. Not one of them worked and when we tried to save money she would manipulate my hubby with tears and anger into giving her our cash. When I first met her I had been told she wasn't working because she was healing from a hysterectomy, I didn't ask how long ago it was, wasn't my business, turns out it was 4 years... for a "band-aid" surgery. She also completely stopped cooking/cleaning or doing anything when I moved in, I was supposed to work full time then come home and do all housework and cook for everyone. Apparently, I was the new maid/mom for an entire family. It took me packing up our child, myself, and leaving to get my husband to leave. Meanwhile, she was telling their whole side of the family I was lazy and stealing from her. None of which was true and when I proved it in front of her older brother and his wife and demanded an apology, she said, "I don't apologize."... So, I can understand Heather having frustration/anger with a momma's boy bent on keeping her in a home his mommy controls through half-done jobs, hiring mom to sell it, and doing things the way mom tells him to.

I agree with a lot of the comments. I think she makes digs at her husband because he will not tell his mother to back off. I believe he doesn't like it either, but he does not want to hurt his mother's feelings, and it is just bite after bite from one to the other. I find that my husband is more on my side when I tell him all the things I love about him. When I mention his good sides it helps me remember why I married him which helps me. In laws are something married people have to deal with and I try to make mental notes on how to or not to act around my future daughters and/or sons in law.

Instead of putting down her husband and in-laws on national television, she could ve been the good one doing the right thing (make the house upto her liking) ... besides, after the Reno now, it looks soooo pretty ! And it looks like a lot of space for a family if 4 ... not sure why they would move ..!

Go to a good counselor before the damage can't be undone. Do it for each other and your children. Children need a mom and a dad. People who have good memories of high school! I always felt that high school was something I was definitely passing through and would happily leave behind, so I don't have so much as a year book. I have no desire to remember my teenage self (cringe). But a lot of men hold onto souvenirs from when they felt they were at their happiest, and healthiest and in top form. The middle-aged man who can't let go of his letter jacket from high school or college, even though he'll never fit into it again is hanging on to his younger self, a part of himself that he is proud of, the same as a woman might hold onto a prom dress or wedding dress - not because she still fits into it, but because it reminds her of when she was her youngest and prettiest and happiest. Women hold on to things like corsages from their prom or wedding, why shouldn't a man hold onto a trophy that reminds him of when he was a 'hero' and felt at his peak as a young man? This woman was mean and cutting to her husband. There's definitely a backlog of resentment there. But when a spouse starts showing contempt for a spouse... divorce is a coming attraction.

When I moved in with my hubby 20 or so years ago, he had lots of clutter. Little nick nicks everywhere. I slowly packed it all away from the living areas of the house. His office was the only room left with clutter and I was the person who dusted everything. One day before he left for work, he noticed my cleaning supplies at the door of his office. He asked what's THAT?! I said, I'm cleaning your office today. He said, I lose 10% of my stuff when you clean my office! And I thought I was being sly :) we have now compromised, his office is the only room in our house that is cluttered but he let me decide where everything goes so it's not so overwhelming. @peterdeane4490
@peterdeane4490 3 жыл бұрын
I would never do it because I live on the West Coast in frequent earthquake territory. For the same reason, I would never hang a heavy picture above the bed, unless it was screwed securely to the wall. I have even seen decorators (in California!) hang a shelf right above the head of a bed and fill it with ceramic jugs. And should we even mention the dangly glass chandeliers?
@FigaroHey
@FigaroHey 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hate that too. I don't get it at all, if there's any way to put the bed anywhere else. I want to be able to open a window and get some air, stand in front of a window and see out of it. And I don't want light and drafts from a window on my face when I'm sleeping and I don't want to look up at my bedroom window from outside and see a headboard jammed in front of the window. I can't see a single reason to put a bed in front of a window unless the room is so small or there are doors or built-in closets on every other wall making it impossible to place the headboard against another wall. Almost might as well not have a window as jam a headboard in front of it. For me, being able to walk right up to a window and look out of it easily makes a room feel less closed and claustrophobic. Blocking a window makes me feel like I'm in a prison. Being able to go right up to a window and look out makes me feel connected with the outside world.

Perhaps the house was on the market for so long because mil was the realtor and didn’t show the house properly and didn’t tell them what they should be doing to make it show better. Perhaps she didn’t want her son to move away. She can say on camera that she told them to declutter but perhaps she only mentioned it in passing. Maybe he was reluctant to move away mom mother. That sort of thing can really grate on the wife’s nerves. I know because my mother and her mil had that type of relationship. Once mom and dad moved away things got much better. I hope they moved far away and are living happily ever after.

They should have only had their house on the market for six months at the longest (which is still way too long in my opinion. Three months would have been better) and then taken it off of the market for a while. It only hurts them to leave it on the market for three straight years because anyone who might have been interested in it will have already seen it online or in person and won't look at the listing again--except to see if the price of the house has been drastically reduced. Potential buyers will wonder what's wrong with the house because it's been on the market for such a long time. The second floor dormers are way too small and there should be more of them. They're very out of proportion with the rest of the house.
