Very cool, I like how you designed it. I am sure the tiger will love it out in the sun. Hopefully he figures out that he needs to push the flap with his face to get out there though. lol He might need some inspiration in the form of treats, to come and go a few times. That'd be a good project for the little people in the house. :)

Kitty might figure it out on his own. Or lure him to the door, push it a bit with a treat outside, then outside do the same for inside. Cats are smart, he'll pick it up in short order. :)

My in-laws have a similar setup for their own house tiger - an enclosed veranda with the outdoor unit of their air conditioner. Don't worry about the heat - the cat will likely be out there in any weather. During the hot Perth Summers, they have to keep the cat indoors some days as no matter how hot the veranda gets, the cat will still happily go sleep out there.

Do the general populace of Japan know about catios or will this Tiger Cage be "that gaijin thing" to them? If that chicken wire was brown, the whole installation would be practically invisible!

Dog person but yeah did similar for the dog around the fence so we would be able to let him out. Latest dog either jumped over or when he figured out he was strong enough just bite and teared open holes for him to go out. Ended up having a 8 m long leash for horses to put him on in the garden.

very nice catio, Tiger will be very happy. You can make a kinda wooden box with wide gaps to cover the air compressor and also put fake grass on the ground, in summer when concrete heats up, it will be comfortable for cat's paws. Also can put a little pot with grass. My cat loves to eat grass, when he eats his food after a few bites, he bites grass too 😂

Might want to put a second latch on the bottom of the door so he can't pull it open enough to squeeze through. Oh, and maybe add a second higher shelf in the future...

Our cats were a bit slow at opening the cat flap at first, so we “posted” the thicker one a few times while the clever one watched. Sorted.

We have a single compressor for the entire house, so a bit larger than the one in the video. The possums figured out how to get inside it for shelter. It turns out that possums form a reasonable path to earth when lighting strikes. I think I’m saying make sure your cat can’t get into the compressor.

Excellent build! I'm going to do something similar for our boys, as soon as my workshop gets put up. That being said, I reckon you might want to invest in wire-stitching those sheets of chicken wire together, as personal experience shows that cable ties will break down in direct sunlight over time.

I've re-roofed my home, completely re-piped everything on my side of the water meter, topped a 65 foot tree, ETC. ETC. ETC.! I wouldn't mind if the unskilled whatever dropped by and offered to help. Just saying!😉 Jim I just finished watching the video, you might want to put a litter box - eh, never mind! One caution tho, some zip-ties get very brittle in sunlight. You might want to add a cordless impact driver to your toolbox in the future, they pair up nicely with a cordless drill.

Yeah, you mentioned tatami, he hasn't clawed that, has he? Mine are tearing up my carpet (that I've been wanting to replace with wood or wood-looking for more than 20 years but can't afford it. It was a long time ago when I said I was so happy y'all got that house. I'd be scared for the mats with kitties in the house. I remember watching the house hunting videos, you looked at this one and I fell in love with lt. So happy you got it and it's working out so well! You are doing great things with it!
