Let's not cry to many tears for those firemen. It's almost guaranteed that it was a couple of them who made off with those two pairs of the girls' underwear that was never found. And it's also a fair inference that these fellas held those panties up to their faces many a night after this tragedy with their left hands, while their right hands snuck down to their crotches, and brought these hard-working civil servants of Austin copious, gooey relief

It would also help if parents realized it's not a good idea, and not allow their children to work those hours. Or at least be outside waiting to take them home. When I was a teen, I was allowed to work, but my mom imposed rules regarding the job. Because of that, my choices were a bit limited, but at least I am alive today.

Right? I have to close our town's bookshop at midnight. It's really scary sometimes. People (mostly young adult man) are often drinking or listening to loud sexist music while roaming the streets late at night. I'm over 30 and I'm always hoping I make it home okay. I can't fathom that people let children and teens (especially girls) work so late and without at least one adult present. It's just so irresponsible!

I can’t stand cops like Hector who want to land people in jail go stroke their own egos. It’s downright sociopathic. If they use unethical tactics to get someone landed in jail when there isn’t enough evidence, THEY should serve the same length that their victims had to serve in prison. With great power should come great consequences to those who abuse it.

I would take that with a grain of salt because anything can seem suspicious after the fact, especially if you have no clue what you're looking for. Having young teenage girls tend to a shop that's open until 11 PM with no security or people around is definitely poor judgement
@jenellebelle9828
@jenellebelle9828 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheGraysleeper I agree that the circumstance of them being there so late on their own is really the problem, not the customers at the shop. I can guarantee every single person has seen something in their lives where they have thought “Oh that’s a little odd” and moved on. Only later if they discovered that “odd” occurrence was connected to a crime would they really start thinking about it and connecting the dots. If I reported every time I saw people in hoodies looking weird or guys that seemed strange I’m pretty sure the police would put me on an “ignore” list after a while because I’d be calling them every day. Lol

I agree that there's always something suspicious going on so you gotta take it with a grain of salt, but also- Bystander syndrome. The Kitty Genovese case is still one of the most horrifying to me because of that. Numerous people saw her get stabbed multiple times, one of her neighbors stood face to face over her body with her killer but did not call the police, and all just thought someone else would have already done it.. so they didn't feel they should "get involved".

What a mess. Hector was obviously a bad cop and should have been fired with extreme prejudice. I bet he was reinstated for political reasons more than anything. It's also troubling that a jury wrongfully convicted those two boys from the pizza shop. There's an Arizona criminal defense lawyer I've been watching here on KZbin. He says that juries usually assume his clients are guilty even before the trial starts, since why else would they be there? Maybe that's true more often than not, but it shows what an uphill battle the falsely accused have to win back their freedom.

Stephanie, I'm so grateful for your detailed research and narration. This case is heartbreaking. I worked at a small yogurt shop throughout high school, often closing the shop alone. Like many teenagers I never understood the danger. My then bf warned me to be careful and told to make sure I locked my car doors because someone could get into my backseat - I thought that was impossible because I'd see someone in my backseat before I got in. One night I closed up and jumped in my car when someone grabbed me from the backseat. I panicked but lucky me it was my bf proving a point. Another night, I walked into the backroom and someone jumped out to scare me - again lucky me it was a friend playing a joke who got in from the unlocked backdoor. These 4 innocent little girls weren't as lucky that horrible night. This could happen to anyone- anywhere. It's heartbreaking and terrifying

I def blame his friend, but having gone thru some terrible police treatment, which was unwarranted and I was cleared of, I can kinda understand. I said nothing but "lawyer" and yet was taunted, screamed at, table/chairs slammed around me for 18 HOURS. I am lucky (unlucky too I guess) that my father had been thru things like that, had warned me and even tho it was horrible, I knew they could do whatever they wanted and my only way out, being innocent, was a lawyer. Scary as hell, but glad I was able to stick it out. Wasn't for anything like murder tho, and I didn't have a record or anything, also I'm a 5'2" woman, so I'm hoping they realized how stupid they were acting.

I’m sorry but NO! I don’t blame his friend at all, it was torture and it has a reason why it‘s forbidden! What the police did is similar to what kidnappers and abusers often do, they try to break your mind. He was basically kidnapped by the police. At a certain point you can’t think anymore, your psyche is trying to protect you at all costs and if that means you have to confess, you will do that. There is only one part responsible for this, the involved police officers- ALL OF THEM!
