Jeremy and Heather's family later created the "Heather Uffelman Memorial Scholarship" in her honor. Tragically, Jeremy was killed on March 31, 1997, in a car accident in South Africa; he was hit head-on by a driver who had apparently fallen asleep at the wheel. He was 27 years old. The identity of Heather's killer has never been revealed. However, public opinion has since suggested that a computer company owner from Nashville named Tom Steeples may have been the killer. Steeples had committed a double murder in a motel room in April of 1994 that was eerily similar to the attack on Heather and Jeremy. In that case, he lured a young couple, Rob and Kellie Phillips, to the motel with the promise of a record deal, and beat them to death as well. Steeples also murdered Ronald Bingham, a business partner and Nashville bar owner, in October of 1993. Along with that, he also beat and sexually assaulted a young woman several years prior. It has been noted that Steeples closely resembles the composite of Johnson and matches his physical description. Also, the car Johnson was driving had Tennessee plates; Steeples was from Tennessee. However, Steeples died in prison of a drug overdose in July of 1994 without ever being officially connected to this case.

However, in his book "Nick The Greek: King of the Gamblers" by Cy Rice, legendary gambler Nick the Greek said that before his death, Dutch Schultz gave him a briefcase for safe-keeping. After Schultz's death, Nick the Greek opened the briefcase and found that it contained $5 million dollars in $1000 and $10000 bills (up until 1968, $1000 and $10000 were available to the general public and could be used at any store). According to Nick, he used this money to replenish his bankroll and gambled it away. It could be possible that Dutch had liquidated the treasure and gave it to Nick for safekeeping since he couldn't trust most of the men under him.
@antonioacevedo52005 жыл бұрын
I was intrigued by your post, but have some questions that you might have the answer to. Why would Schultz trust a hard core gambler like Nick with his 5 million dollars? Where would Schultz launder all of those valuable items and get 5 million cash? I don't believe Nick because the individual on the program said that the liberty bonds were never cashed by anyone. I think that Nick was just trying to add a little spice so that he could sell more books.

The witness who saw Lauren being given to a couple in the parking lot likely has the wrong child. It seems more likely that it was visitation time for some child and the girl was going with the other parent and didn't want to go. Many kids scream "don't make me go" when it's visitation time. And if I saw that happen, there's no way I could be definite of which kid it was. Lots of kids have the same likeness. This woman just saw a poster and thought it was Lauren. I don't think it was Lauren's mom she saw but she was likely too involved by then and didn't want to be wrong so she just said yes. Witnesses at the apartment complex said the timing was impossible. And the ex? Of course he would say that. That's why the grand jury refused to take action. Unfortunately this encourages the police to look at the mom. Let's hope she's alive somewhere.

I don't know why, but some of the subtitles in this episode identify the narrator/host as "WILLIAM SHATNER." Obviously, that is incorrect. These are the program's subtitles, not KZbin's auto-generated subtitles. (It's possible the error exists in other episodes, but I haven't noticed it if it does.)
@maramarxx24314 жыл бұрын
Yes! It does, the strange name of William Shatner appears in the first seasons too. Channel's Subtitles must be computer generated too, but not 100%supervised, as when you scan a text; mistakes are rare

28:27 certainly i do not believe what this woman saying.. I didn’t seen a single sign of emotions, feeling.. that any real mother who lost her child should have.. i see a person who only care about herself, trying to get a way make peoples believe that she is nothing to do with this event.. amazingly instead crying for what may happened to the poor child she cries to herself for the reason why she is considered a suspect in this case.. she is clearly showing that she have no any care and feelings about her child whatsoever..

Mike G Storage. The classified ads says 4GB hard drive. A standard Q950 shipped with a _230MB_ hard drive. At the time, 4GB would have been a big drive array, perhaps 8x500MB or 4x1GB. But it would not have come cheap... But it would have been necessary for video. And a 24“ display was _enormous_ back then. In a nutshell, people have quickly forgotten how expensive computers used to be, especially ones capable of multimedia production.

Mike G It sure is! After inflation, that’s $55K today! The crazy thing is that that $30K system would have been cheaper than whatever dedicated hardware it replaced. But what’s way, way crazier is that if you’d invested that $30K in Apple stock in August 1992, it’d be worth over $8.5 million today! 🤯

Those age progression photos are so useless, especially for missing children. I wonder if any missing child in history has actually been recognised by one.
@1981lashlarue4 жыл бұрын
Quite a number of times actually. Here's an article that talks about several cases where age progression photos helped missing children be recognized and rescued. abcnews.go.com/Technology/AheadoftheCurve/hundreds-missing-children-found-age-progression-images/story?id=8830185
@Romans8-94 жыл бұрын
@@1981lashlarue Thanks for the link and reply. I believe all of these examples overstate the importance of the age progression image. The highest probability for success is when the child is kidnapped young and is still young. Jayce Duggard was not recognised from her age progression photo, she had escaped. The other two cases involved parental/family abductions which are extremely common, which means the age progression has little importance when parents are already suspects and in both cases the child was still a child at the time they were found. The Aric Austin case which had the biggest age gap from being abducted to being found was because his own father was being investigated for the abduction. I'm talking about an instance where someone has witnessed a missing person solely from an age progression picture without any link that ties a suspect to the abduction.

If you’re buying or selling, and your buyer or purchaser gives you the textbook name John Johnson, Tom Johnson, John Smith, Tom Smith, run for the hills. Those are likely aliases. But if you must proceed, meet in a MORE publicly trafficked place, like a grocery store parking lot. A big name grocery store, like Publix, Walmart, Kroger, etc. Not something like IGA, that’s usually in one of those one traffic light towns that have like 3 people in the parking lot on a good day. Of course the best meeting place is the police dept. If they don’t agree, don’t sell/buy. It’s not worth your life. RIP Jeremy & Heather.

Thomas Dewey went on to serve three terms as governor of New York from 1943-1955 as a Republican (how times have changed.) He first ran for president in 1944 against FDR. He carried 45.9% of the vote and carried 12 states and 99 electoral votes. He ran again against Harry Truman in 1948 and gave him a run for his money, carrying almost all of the northeast and much of the midwest and almost won California, Illinois, Virginia, Florida, and Ohio. Had he won any one of those five states, he wouldve won the presidency in 1948. He passed away in 1972 at the age of 69.
