I can't believe a brother would kill his sisters . The question is why did he or why would he kill his sisters. I hope that doesn't sound disrespectful sense u knew Jill and Julie. Jill and Julie sound like they were very nice girls.

I believe you. But guilty of what? Did Donnie really try to murder his own family? Or did he try to burn the place down to get the insurance money with some other lowlifes. And if that happened, did things simply get out of hand and two people were shot to death? Just what was his involvement with the burning of the place and the grizzly gunning down of his two sisters? A business was destroyed and two people were cut down by gunfire. That much we do know. Also, Donnie was yelling at people in the nihht to "get out of there." Who was he yelling at?

Donnie did it, and here's a possible scenario to explain any slight doubt based on the assumption the re-enactment is accurate to the case. He planned to shoot the entire family for the insurance money and cover the crime scene with the fire. He shot the sisters and they didn't die instantly as he had planned, with one of them trying to run away to escape. He panicked and started the fire early. When he saw his parents coming he shouted at the escaping sister to "get out" so he could claim to have been trying to rescue them from the fire. The neighbors saw Donny and the sister that was trying to escape from a distance, and assumed they were two men who had set the fire. The prosecution's mistake was seeking the death penalty; even though Donny deserved it, the jury would be more reluctant to sentence a 21-year-old kid to the death penalty if any doubt whatsoever could be introduced in the courtroom. If that hadn't been on the table they would have likely sentenced him to as many life sentences in prison as the prosecutors wanted.

Something doesn't add up about that Jill and Julie case they were in a mobile home and their parents were asleep down the hall and they found I believe 4 rounds in the ashes? There is no way possible unless you were in an induced coma that you can sleep through shotgun blast and a small building like that shotgun blast is 170 decibels and you cannot sleep through one of those much last for and a structure like that the something's not adding up about that they slept through that but they woke up to the crackling of the fire? The big question is why what doni do that I think he did it but and maybe he did have help evidently them people must have really pissed somebody off or donny was a psycho but still something ain't right there saying they slept through that shotgun blast that's impossible the parents I'm talking

if he didn't know the shotgun had been used, why would he assume it might have? as far as an innocent person would know, no crime had been committed and the fire was accidental, but he did know. and the fact that his own parents say he's guilty seals the deal for me. i believe he's guilty and intended to murder his entire family that night.

@@KennethRobinson-hl7sg - Jealousy? Not sure about the family issues - but having cute younger twins, they are almost certain to get more attention than Donny. As well, they said he was home from school (?) so he was sleeping on the couch. What happened to his room? The girls were sleeping together so it’s not like it was a 3-bedroom house, he’d had his own room growing up, and after he left his sisters went from sharing a room to each having her own. Did he always have to sleep on the couch growing up? To me that makes more sense than a young man able to sleep thru a stranger breaking into the house (did the person break the lock? Have a key?) - walk - past him asleep on the couch, going to the girls room, shooting both girls, and running out - all undetected.

A year late, but I like how the prosecutor absolutely destroyed the defense with basic facts/questions and common sense: "The defendant [Donald Hansen] brought the gun that was the murder weapon to the scene. He brought the shotgun shells that killed those two girls. He hid the murder weapon. He lied about all those things." "You'd think that if some unnamed, unknown masked intruders are in your house killing people and burning the place down and you're standing right next to them that they'd shoot you, too, wouldn't you? Uhm... they didnt." "If you're going to commit a murder, don't you bring the instruments to do that job? Don't you bring the gun? If you're going to burn down the house, don't you bring the gas? How convenient for them that both of these items just happened to be provided by Donald Hansen. Just makes no sense." Donnie was guilty as sin. They should've locked that scumbag up and thrown away the key.

We would never know the real reason for the jury's decision. However, it seems that the jury with this case made a bad call. Donnie has knowledge of the crime or even done it himself. The defense made a clever argument that won over the jurors. In court both sides have a chance to argue their position. It could hurt a case if the police miss something or never add something or some other questionable thing. It is wise for the state attorney to ensure the police made every possible effort to review all and any information. This will help many cases get its intended response. This case is long but it is wrong most people commit crimes and are clever enough or because of an issue with the law are free. The possibility of committing another crime increases greatly.

Why would Donnie hide his face and not wanna show he’s not involved first off he borrowed the gun who shot his sisters with the same gun second he bought the gas that were in the exact gas cans third he went to get the gun and got caught lied like he didn’t know his dog wasn’t there his parents told him where the dog was after the incident! Then the living twin sister said she saw his face in a flash it was dark he was supposed to be sleeping on the couch so how would she see her brothers face? Then on top of that the only reason he didn’t do off with all of them in my opinion is because he panicked when his sister staggered outside before he could kill his mom and step dad. He is guilty as sin! How could a jury not convict him?!! The justice system is bullshit! Even his own MOTHER and the man who raised him disowned him because of their deep down feelings and the fact they knew his personality and knew he had everything to do with it! It’s very sad loosing your twin girls and then knowing your own son that was supposed to protect his little sisters and be a big brother could kill them in cold blood and then knowing he most likely planned on killing you both his parents for money but the plan went wrong! 💔 he’s sick and he deserves to be locked up all the evidence murder weapon on top of the gasoline cans the witnesses claimed they saw him with days before the murder it makes me so MAD that his own parents don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth but the jury bought the defenses lame ass excuses smh 🤦‍♀️ I’m just happy his own Mom knew like she said she was relieved he was “proven” innocent in court but she disowned him because all the facts and evidence pointed to him!! I pray to JESUS he gets his it takes years sometimes but KARMA is a bitch and he will get his it’s only a matter of time! FUCK DONNIE THE JUDGE && the JURY!!! I hope his life is miserable that’s exactly why he changed his name just like any other guilty person would like I stated before instead of proving his innocence till he’s blue in the face which is what I would do if I was innocent not run away change my name and hide my face from cameras and on top of that it seems he just excepts the fact his parents especially his birth mom don’t care or want to have anything to do with him! I would be devastated knowing my mom hates me and would do everything possible to be in her life but he’s guilty he most likely can’t even face her! What a coward lol 😂

Well, actually Donny borrowed the gun, bought the bullets and the gasoline. Days before the murder. Decided to stay the night of said murder. He then hid the gun, except how would he have known it was involved in the fire, then had his ‘get outta here’ albi, apparently saved his sister (although there were no bloody clothes) then had the sister say it was him, returned to the shed to steal and probably hide the gun again (I wish that officer would have let him in there to see what he was really up to, like any other time they don’t stop crime before it happens i.e shootings, so why not let this unthreatening one go a little further). He lied consistently and just seemed seedy all round. Did he drive a Monte Carlo? Cuz if so, case closed! They had to have had a terrible lawyer not to have convicted him. I’ve seen circumstantial evidence convict more people. But I do agree that it is fishy no one heard the four rounds fired but smelt the smoke. So maybe they’re deaf as doors and smell like bloodhounds? And to add to all that it’s just not usually heard of that parents will admit they think their child is in the wrong, especially the ones with criminals. So now he just lives out his life with a new name and a brand new start. Go figure

In the second case, if the twin girls were both shot with a shot gun, no mater who did it, how the hell did the parents not even hear the gun blasts? Shot guns are pretty loud, esp in an enclosed area, and trailers do not have the best insulation if any in the walls between the rooms. The mother wakes up due to the smell of smoke, but not the gun shots. Something is fishy here! Even as the parents retell the story not a tear shed. The mother's voice trembled a bit but her eyes were bone dry.

It's pretty obvious Donny is guilty. It's also not normal for some strangers to come into a home, poor gasoline and set a fire and shoot the 2 daughters. If the objective is to kill, they ALL should have been shot. Then set the fire to cover up. Also, Donny is not very smart. He left a lot of clues. The father says it was about collecting insurance money. It makes sense since a lot of people do such things for money. I think the first shot was not heard by the parents because the killers muffled the sound. The girl was asleep and died in her sleep. The second girl got up and was walking and BOOM, this time, there was no time to muffle the sound and the parents woke up.

I saw an update about the Hansen family on an unsolved mysteries forum a couple years ago. Apparently they sold their logging business and have retired and moved away. Betty had cancer at one point and is now cancer free. And they now have two grandkids from their daughter who wasn’t around the night of the murders. Donny apparently 100% went off the grid, changed his name and everything. There was rumors that he was living in Northern California with three daughters of his own. I don’t think that’s ever been 100% confirmed though. Again, this was all just on a unsolved mysteries forum about 4 years ago-ish. So take it as you will. Regardless, Donny 100% is guilty. Even if he didn’t pull the trigger and kill his sisters. He knows who did and what happened.

I agree that donny is guilty 100 %. He failed two lie tests and those tests don't lie. Plus he hid the gun . If he didn't pull the trigger and didn't set the fire he knows who did.

I don’t think he pulled the trigger to kill his sisters, I feel he had 2 accomplices and i feel the plan was to burn the house and the whole family, but things went south

Donnie definitely did it. Two guys don't randomly shoot two young girls and then burn down a home. One of the girls heard Donnie burning down the house. He shot her. Waking the parents. They just didn't know it was a shotgun sound that woke them.

That’s true - in fact I don’t think you can smell smoke while you’re sleeping which is why night fires are so dangerous. The mother heard the blast but woke up not realizing what she’d heard. That’s happened to me a couple of times and it’s kind of terrifying- you know some loud noise woke you up but no idea what that noise was or what it even sounded like.

I’m late to this, but it makes no sense if it was two random men. Think about it, if you’re gonna commit a crime this big, wouldn’t you want to spend as little time as possible? You’re walking around the house pouring gasoline which I can assume is somewhat noisy (not to mention the strong smell.) then you’re walking right outside the house to burn it down. You’re just risking being caught with unnecessary extra steps

Just because she said she saw nobody to the doctor doesnt mean she couldnt recollect the memory later, do people not understand trauma and how it works? Sometimes the memories are recollected perfectly but sometimes its foggy for a bit and then moment of clarity. I think it was donnie and curcumstantial or not he was guilty

Somthing isn't right about the story of the Hanson fire they found 3 shells a 12 gauge shotgun blast is 156 decipals we all know they are LOUD I know cause I'm a hunter so how did the parents sleep through that in that trailer?unless you are in a medically indosed coma that's impossible to sleep through that and not wake up to 1 blast muchless three I hear shotgun blast from 2 miles away during hunting season in my bedroom but they wake up to a crackling fire?something isn't right about they're side of the story they must have really really did something to piss Donny or someone off and to go physco to do that shoot and or burn and kill everyone in that trailer, damn.
