I faintly remember the school bus children segment when it first aired. Watching it again as an adult, that teared me up a little. Joe Dillahunty, bless his heart. You could tell the search for his other siblings had taken such a large toll on him. I'm so happy he was able to find them all. Sadly, the oldest brother had already passed away shortly after the siblings had begun to be reunited. They found out later in their search. Joe Dillahunty lived a good, long life. He passed away just last August at the age of 81. I'm so glad he had 26 good years with his siblings.

Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter was apprehended in 2008. He was using the alias Clark Rockefeller and was arrested right after he abducted his seven-year-old daughter. Over the years, he had conned friends and even his ex-wife into believing he was a part of the wealthy Rockefeller family. Authorities reopened the investigation of the Sohus case after his parental kidnapping trial concluded. He was sentenced to four-to-five years in state prison on the kidnapping charge, and additional time for an assault charge. He has, however, refused to cooperate with police in their investigation of the Sohus case. In March 2011, he was charged with John's murder. Investigators finally located John's birth family; DNA testing from his family members confirmed that the remains found in the backyard of the house belonged to him. At the trial, along with the luminol evidence, prosecutors had several witnesses testify against Gerhartsreiter. Multiple neighbors remembered seeing strange-colored smoke coming from his chimney around the time of the murders. He also had asked friends about places that he could dispose of drums filled with "chemicals" (John's remains were found in a metal drum). Around the time of the murder, he borrowed a chainsaw from a neighbor and tried to sell a bloodstained rug to a friend. Also, around that same time, a friend noticed that the ground near the guest house had been dug up. He claimed that he was having problems; however, the same area was where John's body would later be found. Finally, two bags found with John's remains came from two universities that Gerharstreiter had attended. On April 10, 2013, Gerhartsreiter was convicted by a Los Angeles jury of first-degree murder for that of John. However, Linda has never been found, but police believe that she is dead.

Beside the fact no one takes a flashlight to shoot themselves, firing a bullet into the forehead means they're dead before they hit the ground. The recoil will swing the hand in an arc causing the weapon to follow that arc. It wont land inches away from the firing hand. What were the results of a paraffin test on the hand? If positive, did they metal detect around the area for another slug? The killer(s) would put another gun in his hand and shoot into the ground or maybe the bushes. It seems O'Mara's death was given short shrift.

It looks like a crime of passion. He became interested in Linda and John was in the way. He would not confess since there was no body for Linda. She was probably taken against her will. He was crafty so he had a European friend write those postcards to keep people from being curious. The alibi itself is that they were going to work for the government.....

@@troytanner1693 That is an African American/Black Lady Police Officer; a human person like you and me. The way you call her "chocolate" manifests racism, a psychopath disorder. I do not appreciate that.

More about the Sohus case: In 2008, Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter was finally located and arrested. At the time, he was using the alias Clark Rockefeller. He was arrested after he abducted his seven-year-old daughter during a custody visit. Over the years, he had conned friends and even his ex-wife into believing he was a part of the wealthy Rockefeller family. Fingerprints confirmed his true identity. Investigators reopened the Sohus case after his parental kidnapping trial concluded. He was sentenced to four-to-five years in state prison on the kidnapping charge, and additional time for an assault charge. He refused to cooperate with police in their investigation of the Sohus case. In March of 2011, he was charged with John's murder. He claimed that he was having plumbing problems; however, that same area was where John's body would later be found. Finally, two bags found with John's remains came from two universities that Gerharstreiter had attended. On April 10, 2013, Gerhartsreiter was convicted by a Los Angeles jury of first-degree murder for that of John. He was sentenced to twenty-seven years to life. Sadly, Linda has never been found; however, police believe that she is dead, and was probably killed by Gerhartsreiter around the same time as John. unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/John_and_Linda_Sohus

it's funny, when an officer is killed in the line of duty the other police involved scream for justice or scream cover up but if an officer's death is ruled a suicide they accept it like gospel, even if there is evidence to the contrary. in the case of Mike O'Mara there are too many incidentals to come to the conclusion of suicide, him taking his wife's money, the gas hose hanging from his car, the fact he took a flashlight with him, there are a lot of things that make this look like a cover up. Mike served in the F.B.I and maybe he witnessed or came upon evidence of some major crime and they thought he might talk but his death when weighed along with the scene and circumstances (at least in my novice opinion) doesn't say ''suicide''
@BalrogUdun2 жыл бұрын
It does seem criminally under investigated for a cop to randomly commit suicide. If he was as squeaky clean as they claim he could have made some enemies in the department, old school mob doesn’t tend to hold grudges like that unless you betray them which is a possibility too.
@sds550211 ай бұрын
Law Enforcement does NOT honor those who commit suicide, especially in those days. They sweep it under the rug and try to sell the idea of a tragic accident. O'Mara was taken out by the new criminal organization running Chicago, known as the Cowboys. They controlled both the Irish and Italian organized crime in Chicago, with a few remaining today, just very low key.

The Sohus case sounds to me like Gerhartsreiter murdered John, kidnapped Linda and sold her into human trafficking in Europe. Didi might have been paid off or blackmailed by Gerhartsreiter or both. It would explain the cryptic postcards from Linda and possibly even the random lady picking up her cats... People are awful 😕 😪

The one piece of information that was never revealed and would have helped clear things was , "was his hands tested for powder residue from firing the gun". The gun was a revolver so it should have been prominent if he pulled the trigger.

Police Captain's Death- 22:56 "Michael O'Mara had been regulated to a desk job in the records department. It should have been the gentle twilight to a brilliant career. Should have been but wasn't ". Why? What happened? He had been a 'scourge' to the Illinois Mafia in the 60's and he gets put on a desk? Isn't that a demotion? Strange. This really jumped out at me and they slid right over that.
