This was a really good video. However, I've got something of a fringe case that isn't quite covered by these rules of etiquette. A regular at my local frequently brings an alleged army of Orks. I say 'alleged' because, I don't see them. I don't really want to play against them due to the handicap, it's hard to play against an invisible army. But I don't want to feel like I'm causing unnecessary drama. Apparently they're purple, which would be cool if I could see them. What should I do?

2 things I’d like to add 1. For games if you can, bring your codex, any rules disputed can be settled via codex and a reasonable discussion. 2. Adding to have fun, collect what you want to collect, balance changes, if you think necrons are awesome, collect necrons, really like imperial fist lore? Go with them. You’ll always enjoy your army more than whatever army is the strongest

Welcome! My first piece of advice would be to pick a faction you love. If you don’t love the models you pick the hobby is going to drain you instead of being fun.

I remember starting the hobby. what a wonderful time it was ruining my first model... poor bloodletter. Just remember, mistakes are just a path of progress. Also, be very careful. First, you might buy a start collecting box. Then.... maybe another army catches your eye because it might be fun to paint, so you buy a few squads... then, you see yet another army that may help with something like painting small details, so you buy a collector's set. Then you see that they've released knights again, and why not? you buy a chaos knight and an imperial knight (gives you a chance to try different color pallettes and collect random bits for later). then, before you know it, you've got a pile of shame 30 boxes high, you're 4,000 dollars in the hole, and you haven't even started to try to find people that also enjoy warhammer in your area. You're alone, buried in unpainted and unassembled plastic. Every yell for help is muffled more and more by the piles of sprues that only seem to stack high and higher until you've all but given up hope. Help.

I wish more parents taught their kids rule one. I had bought a Samsung Galaxy tab 8 Ultra, it was in my possession 2 days before my wife's friend brought her kid round to our house and smashed the screen on it. My group doesn't have that rule, we just take basic lists with an hq a few troops and an elite unit or something, keep the game basic by not using strategems or secondary missions and just let them get a feel for the game without worrying about winning or losing. Though usually if it's someone's first get they are using one of our armies while they decide if they want to buy their own. It might be different if they had their own army ready to go, id probably take it easy so they don't get discouraged

I don't get why you would need to touch someone's model in the first place, granted I've only been playing for about 3 years, I do play at least a game a week though and in those 400+ games, I've never had a need to touch someone's model. I've definitely held a few up to the light and admired them, but they were people I knew well and played with regularly, I also didn't just start grabbing. If someone grabbed the model I spent 50+ dollars on 2+ hours assembling and 8+ hours painting without my permission, it'd be liable to start a brawl and that's how I treat other people's models, like they might hit me if I damage them hahaha

Almost always depends on the opponent (sometimes the store/event). Just remember the golden rule: if you start to take your army out and your opponent says "You can't use [x] because it's not [WYSIWYG] ", pack up your army and walk away. If feeling spicy, flip them the bird XD (OK not really, just don't like WYSIWYG sticklers). Personally I'd be totally down for facing your Steeler Marines, I'll come at you with my DG that's puts the Daemon in Daemon engine (ex. my Bloat Drone is a greater demon with a huge scythe and propellers coming out it's back)

The proxy stuff has gotten out of hand which does not make for a pleasant play experience. I get that this hobby is expensive but knowing that, you either have the "tools and equipment" to play or you do not. I actually stopped playing at my local shop because no one had actual armies, they would all run cheap and generic space marine models that were 3-D printed, not painted and would call them a Tau army, or a Necron army or any army they chose which made it very confusing. These people would claim they just wanted to "test this army out" but after several months I noticed no one ever bought anything and just continued to use 3-D printed generic models for everything.
