Your point about keeping the pinky fingers on the saddle at the trot so that the elbows flex up and down with the trot, but not my hands was a breakthrough for me! I can't wait to start working on that.

You literally managed to explain what I was doing wrong in a 10 min video while my instructor preferred shouting for an hour "your hands are all over the place" ( without explaining how to resolve it) so... Thank you so much! ❤

I’m coming back to dressage riding after a 10 year break from riding. I started riding as a kid, had my own horses and competed regulary, but stopped when I was 18. I feel like I’m back to square one, which may be a good thing as to solidify my knowlege and correct any problems I may have not known about before, as well as having a slightly different body to work with. I feel like I’m so rusty right now, and that I am struggling to find my balance and use my core effectively, which in turn effects everything else. My instructor and friends have said that I just need to ride more to get everything back on track. I’m trying everything I can to increase my knowlege, correct my problems and improve my riding in general, and these videos are so incredibly useful! It’s so true how everything is connected, and one problem can lead to another... lots of food for thought and so inspiring!

Amazing video. I feel like I’ve been riding wrong for 29 years and no trainer corrected me

I want to comment in case this helps anyone else. At 7:30 as your hands are following at the canter you say "forward, forward, forward." It took me years to figure that out, as in my head I was thinking "forward, back, forward, back." Everything changed when I started thinking of only following forward and in my head I just say "forward, forward, forward" as you demonstrate.

Love your educational videos! I love the tip of resting your fingers on the mane or saddle, that really helps me get a feeling of where my hands should be while posting the trot. Sometimes I grab a hold of the saddle pad with my outside hand as well just to remind myself to keep a steady contact on the outside rein, it's super helpful :)

Came here to work out how you move your arm in canter, because sometimes i end up moving my arm forwards and backwards from my shoulder which looks horrific, so your upper arm rests against your body and only your elbow bends with the horses motion?

Nice! I'm just learning how to ride English from learning Western for all my life. Right now I'm just getting starting with Hunt Seat related things, but I've been using your videos as a sort of base. I am self teaching myself, with moderate supervision from my trainer to make sure I am learning correctly. I am also working with a very green horse, and I have yet to teach him proper canter cues and how to listen to my hands/body at the canter. All our canter work was done in Western. Should I get him okay-ish at cantering in Western, and then in English? Or should I just try to ask him in English and see what happens? Any comments or recommendations or tips or any of the sort would be highly appreciated. :)

Another great video :) as usual :) Unfortunately I was only told to keep my hands still at the very beginning. I think that these words should be banned because the only way is to MOVE your hands... My problem is is that I keep my hands to close to my body and I get really tense . I ride with a barebackpad because saddle fitting was delailed due to the coronavirus so I always need to ride in de sitting trot which is pretty hard for me does anyone have tips?
@cm34554 жыл бұрын
Can you attach stirrups to your bareback pad? they're useful even in sitting trot just so you can feel how to shock absorb and relax through your ankles. I find that once my ankles are relaxed and floppy it moves up my body to my hands.
@annieluppnow80342 жыл бұрын
Hiya. I really struggle to have "following" hands with one lesson horse who shakes his head alot especially at the trot. So much so that struggle to have steady rein contact. On another lesson horse, a Fresian, his head is quieter and I dont have this problem at the trot. I seem to have steadier hands when cantering. Have thought of getting a grab strap when riding Aces but dont want to waste money getting this if it still won't stop Aces from shaking his head...
@annieluppnow80342 жыл бұрын
...he is now in a bridle without a noseband which is apparently working better. Not know if Aces is so busy with his head with other riders or just with me because am struggling with him...
@AmeliaNewcombDressage5 ай бұрын
Great question. I would talk to your instructor about this behavior. Since I can't be there to see exactly what is happening, it's hard for me to tell you exactly what you need to do. A grab strap can help, and I also recommend focusing on improving your seat. As your seat gets better, your hands will become quieter. In addition, this video will help: amelianewcombdressage.com/dressage-training/3-steps-to-round/
