My Cat is my favorite ship. It actually feels like a space freighter inside. The C2 is a basic bitch hollow tube hauler. It just a upsized Max with a front loading ramp. The Cat has so much more charm and character to the internals. Not to mention when the modularity of the Cat comes online.

I love the design language and the whole idea of the Argo RAFT. Feels super industrial, great color and design to match. Easy to fly, high scu, and really makes u feel like a cargo runner

Some great suggestions here LG, but for me the number one sleeper ship has to be the Reliant Tana. One of the most interesting designs out there in SC and if you kit it out properly you end up with 4x S2 and 2x S1 gimballed weapons. Mix that with the decent agility of the Tana and you can easily clear bounties, it's a lot of fun to fly!

The reliant Tana is a decent dogfighter and cool for that solo bounty hunter aesthetic, it's got loads of character although impractical in some situations like landing in rocky terrain or forest clearings and so on. Still it is fun.

I tried to use it to clear out a hijacked 890 jump by lowering my lower wing into the 890s hangar and blasting the pirates with the bottom gun. Things were getting laggy and I think the 890s shields stopped a lot of it but between my ship guns and me swinging the lower wing around I think I killed about half of them. Anyway, favorite ship even with the bed log problem. 7/7

I really like my RETALIATOR BASE. When the various modulus come out, it will be a blast. With all turrets manned, it will be a great medium range, high value cargo hauler with tons of defensive DPS / SCU carried. Re configuring it with different modules is going to make it very versatile. My Mini-Caterpillar.

Herald, for when you've just watched The Expanse, and want your mini Rocinantè. Also just for booting around at unsafe velocities. Mustang gamma for booting around at unsafe velocities in atmo. Aurora LN for getting your flying/targeting/power control down while hunting VHRT bounties

Argo RAFT is a fun little hauler at 96scu of cargo that 3 full Prospector loads. It definitely has the industrial flight model and it is the one ship in the game where you really are better off performing a turnover maneuver to stop.

The Caterpillar is great. The interior design and layout of that ship is extraordinary. Like, seriously. If you walk the interior of a Catepillar, take a moment to appreciate all the details, paint quality, lighting and text on all of the various things along the walls and spaces. Just incredible. It really speaks to the industrial workmanship of its role.On the other hand the C2 doesn't communicate any of this in its design. It's like a posh fat MSR with more cargo space (and no hidden compartments). Out of the Caterpillar and C2, the Cat has way more soul to it. The design of Drake ships is just wicked. Goddamnit now I want my Cat back, haha. I loved flying around Microtech with the white paint set. People seem to hate on the look of he Starfarer, but I've always loved the shape of it. The curved bulbous symmetry is very appealing on the MISC ships. But this is coming from a guy that loves flying around in a Mole with full kit of Aril Harvester (orange) armor (same as what LG wears). I didn't have one for ages, but I would give a shout out to the Avenger Titan. You have this cute little living space behind the pilot's chair. I love ships with a little bit of interior or passageways. I would definitely want to try out the Valkyrie, Herald and Terrapin, I've never got the opportunity yet. Now.... if the side doors of the Cat had ramps that could extend down at an angle to the floor, to allow boarding/access.... oh my god.

Those are supposed to be cargo lifts like a box truck. I hope they do still intend to implement those at some point. Side doors and front door folds down and then extends to ground. Freelancer MAX team, hands up! It was my first ingame bought ship because I needed something with a bigger belly than the Cuttie black to move cargo, but also not as expensive and big as the C2; something handy enough for a solo player to do some standard trading or to move refined resources around. And after some research there it was, beautiful and shiny, the best option of all, the Freelancer MAX. It's been a while and I still love it!

Now you're giving away an Expanse - count my entry in! It should be noted that the Herc has a longer wait between QT jumps (something that always bothered me) than the Cat. You're right about the 'feel' the Cat has too - totally industrial. Flying the C2 feels totally military if you ask me. The one ship that surprised me is the C8X Pisces Expedition. It's just great for exploring the game; decent enough guns, a bit peppy and just enough space to run a little illicit cargo or packages without everything bouncing around in the back - plus, it's relatively cheap.

I've been playing for two weeks now and i have the starter pack aurora. I bought the cutty in game and flew it for the last week. I had to take the aurora to go get my dead body (forgot to put my helmet back on before exiting my ship in the ROC...) what a difference in responsiveness!!! I really felt the difference between those two ships!! :o i'm impressed :)

I tried the Cat. I do like the industrial feel of the Drake ships and I do plan to get one when I can, While the C2 has the higher capacity, the Cat has better fuel efficiency, a reason behind me getting it. That and the bridge being able to detach like an escape pod is a nice touch when they make that available.

All good recommendations. For a fighter I might actually recommend the Hawk. The buffs it got definitely helps, still not the best or meta but in the hands of a skilled pilot it's quite deadly.

Freelancer Max is a ship I skipped over going for the C2 to transport refined material from my mining. But to start mining you can really go by with the max just fine. Cool inclusion of the M50, havnt tested it but will get it an try it out.

Right there with you on the Freelancer Max, I love mine. That being said I'm loving my 315p even without the tracer beam being ingame yet it's a nice little ship for running around doing bunkers or cargo/exploration missions and with the coffee machine working in 3.17 now it can keep me hydrated too.

For my play style, solo, non PVP, my preferences are Aurora ES for just getting around, Avenger Titan for delivery missions, Prospector for mining in Aron Halo and planetary nonQuantainium mining, Conny Andromeda, for trading and picking up refined mining goods, and bounty hunting (PVE), ROC mining, and Cutty Black as the “pickup truck” for all of the preceding. My favorite ship is the one I happen to be flying at the time I’m asked which ship is my favorite. I would recommend pledging an Avenger Titan as a starter ship though, even though it’s more expensive than the bottom cost ships because you can doll ALL of you play loops. Otherwise the Aurora LN since the single-seat fighters can’t do delivery missions very easily.

I can see the M50 becoming an important "car" ship for you to travel around the verse due to its speed and maneuverability, so that if you get interdicted by pirates you can simply outrun them and leave them behind. They wouldn't catch up. This would mean you could travel around the verse freely without worries. Another ship that would be ideal for that job, but far less beautiful is the Herald, which would be literally uncatchable by any other ship in the game. The Sabre will likely become important in the future once stealth comes back into the game. Which is the reason why I still have mine. It's a good ship to have for future usage. So keep an eye out for this ship and it may become crucial.

@@andresisthename i agree the M50 looks like a great personal roadster sort of ship for zipping about. But I'm not sure how much value it has for deterring pirates on account of it not really being an appealing target for a pirate even if they could catch it, lots of bigger fish to be going after. What is it about the Sabre that makes it stand out for stealth, the main reason I haven't flown one is because it just seems undergunned compared to a hornet, how would it compare to a hornet ghost ?

The joy at the moment is these little ships are (relatively) cheap - I’d strongly suggest getting out and giving them a spin. Most likely everything combat will be rentable at ILW at the end of the month as well.

@@gawaynlothian2572 Something to note about pirates is that AI is getting incrementally better with every patch. We just got a boost in this 3.17 patch. In the future AI pirates will likely be ridiculously powerful, and we might end fearing them almost as much, if not more than the human ones. At least humans can be negotiated with. The reason I bring this up is because AI pirates will interdict you no matter what ship you are flying. They would go after you if you are close to their sector. Or the sector they spawn. So traveling around in super fast ships like the M50 so that you can leave them behind if they interdict you is not a bad idea at all considering that the M50 can outrun most, if not ALL of the ships a pirate would use for such job. The Herald has the fastest top speed in the game. Or so I heard. which would make it even better. If you make the habit of setting you SCM speed to max before quantum traveling, you can boost really fast when interdicted and leave them behind quite nicely. I have done this with my Connie. And that is just a Connie. now Imagine doing this with a race ship! As for the Sabre. Well, you got an excellent point there. The jury is not final with it since we have the Hornet Ghost as an option as well. There is one thing that seems consistent with the Hornet series though, and that is that those ships are getting weaker with every patch. One gets the feeling the devs don't like them any more. The Hornet wen from being a must have ship, to a "yeah it's there ship." That made me choose the Sabre over the Hornet Ghost.

Some good ships - I will say there is something about the Hawk that is quite fun. The fact that the bounty cell on the back works. I think the Prowler just looks super cool (although kinda useless!). And then I'm curious about your thoughts on the Valkyrie? Have yet to try it, but wondering if some fun could be had in that (bunker missions with a pal?).

I upgraded my Freelancer DUR to a war bond Taurus so I could do some cargo trading until I can get a C2 in game. The 174scu, up from 96scu on the other Constellation variants, is pretty unmatched until you go to much bigger/more expensive ships. Only problem is I found out how good of a ship it is at high end bounties. It manoeuvres like a bus stuck in mud, but once you line them up in your crosshairs they rapidly disappear with 2xS5 and 2xS4.

I'll have to give the M50 and the Razor a go - In that bracket I have a pair of Archimedes, which are ... OK (well, they look great). For just 'the joy of flying', I love the handling and responsiveness of the Arrow Good to see a recommendation of the Mantis in group flights - its also an interesting 'air'frame, like the Hawk Sabre - yes - I think this is a really nice looking ship. Pity RSI didnt positively tweak this ship's atmo characteristics in 3.17 like they did for some others the MAX - really good recommendation for the profiles you mentioned. I nearly went for one of these, but opted instead for an MSR The Cat - another one I _nearly_ went for, but opted for the C2 for bulk haulage as my first capital purchase with aUEC (is also good for vehicle transport). I _will_ get a CAT in the near future - I think it offers better visibility for landings (without having to use ext view) owing to the placement of the command bridge

Glad to see a Freelancer in your mix - the Max is tempting. I use the smaller entry model as a taxi and for cargo hauling, fun to fly and cheap to run. Given the mining focus of 3.17, I was (mildly) surprised not to see a miner in your list.

I love the Freelancer MAX (clearly) but the Connie Taurus is a seriously good option too - you might find as 2 that the Taurus’ extra cargo and tractor beam (I really hope we get those alongside cargo refactor) might go a long way.

I've been digging the oddball ships for commuting, current favourites are the Drake Herald and MISC Reliant Tana. With Fleet Week coming up the Herald is great for escaping that Orison atmosphere. Would love a Caterpillar, but that's some serious 🧀 to spend for a lark haha.

Keep the content coming dude! You're my favorite gravely voiced sc tuber by far. I like the avenger Titan for its fire power and ability to hold a small cargo run. Then the reliant Tana is nice and cheap and packs a punch if you upgrade it's wing tip gimbals to 2xs2 cannons plus having 20 missiles is pretty nice not to mention has 1scu cargo space, which ain't anything to shake a stick at, especially as you can now create a 1scu crate that you can tractor beam around and fill up with loots from bunkers. Aesthetically i really love it's vtol mode and it's b-wing vibes. I also use the caterpillar because it feels more like a working man's ship, and possibly this year if we get the cargo refactor, it's sure to become way more useful. The caterpillar has a lot of features that are super cool that will be unlocked when it gets a gold standard rework as well, like being able to repurpose it's cargo bays to do be medical bays or perhaps a torpedo Bay. Also the cockpit will be able to detach from the rest of the ship and operate as an escape pod. I dunno when any of that's gonna happen but when it does i could see the caterpillar sky rocketing in price and i wanna have one before the price hike

I think what is being not talked about is some ships have escape pods but you have to get to them when your ship is on fire when it comes out but one I think and that is the CAT it's cabin is better than a escape pod it is a separate ship that small fact gets over looked.

I also bought a freelancer max right after I got the prospector, but I find the MAX to be very buggy and most of the time a station won't recognize that I've landed. I believe it's a de-sync issue and I've lost more than half a mil worth of refined quantanium because of it. I've not had similar issues in any other ship so it does seem like a freelancer MAX issue. It's such a cool ship which is why I got it, but from my experience I would advise caution.

I can't argue against any of these ships, although I prefer to fly the Arrow in atmosphere over the M50. I'm probably one of the few people that doesn't have a problem with the Starfarer's layout. I think that beast is just plain awesome.

I feel like a lot of ships that aren't in the min-max range are going to be picked a lot less. Like others mentioned the Argo Raft I feel is going to be one of those. Others simply have more cargo capacity for the same or even less cost.

Iove using my Cat and RAFT. They may not be popular but once we get cargo refactor they'll come into their own compared to the higher scu but slower to load/unload ships. The Cat also has far better turret coverage.

Yeah the Cat is severely underrated imo. Right now it just feels better to me than the Hercules, but like you say - post cargo refactor with the tractor beams it’ll pick up, then when it gets modules it’ll be in most people’s hangars!

Lord knows we have in PTC when we do org mining hauls escorts have of course helped as well when that's happened. I can't help get the feeling the Herc series will.have it's handling and or speed toned down a bit orbits fuel consumption dialled up. Do you think anything will change with regards to the hercs?

The Starfarer has next level design ideas. Lets put the largest main thruster in the center of all the bags of different fuels and also shooting directly at the location where refueling takes places behind the ship. That way if any overflow happens that giant thruster can quickly dry things up. MISC is very hit or miss in my opinion. I like the look and feel of the Reliant series and the prospector. But the SF and Freelancers are terrible in my opinion. Now the new Hull A takes some good parts from those two ships and improves upon them which is good as I am waiting for my Hull B to finally get to game.

I'd add the Connie Taurus to the list. Nice boost for cargo at 172 SCU over the Max. Agree with the Sabre and Caterpillar picks on this list as well. Need to give that M50 a go.

I've found myself a major fan of industry shops, but wishing there were more industry gameplay loops already introduced. It feels so far that the alpha has given bounty play the focus, and mining as well, but nothing much for trade, repair, and salvage. Not rushing progress though.

G’day mate. #1 Prefer the 85x Limited - not such an edgy flyer, with more guns and seats two. I actually got both Origin ships as they spawn on blue pads at outposts, but prefer the 85x as a ‘commuter’. #2 & #3 Mantis and Sabre are fragile (@Camural just posted a Sabre test) but I do love the way they look. #4 Constellation Taurus carries more cargo and can do ERTs, haul ground vehicles, but I reckon the best hauler in the 100scu range is still the Crusader Mercury Star Runner - fast, and nimble for its size. #5 been considering the Starfarer.. after I get the A2…

The 85x is a great tourists ship - the cockpit view is awesome and great to give a friend who just wants to see some of the game a spin in it. Too many passenger seats come with a rubbish view!

I really like the Connie Taurus for freight runs. Its as ugly as the MAX but I love how it sounds like its shacking apart when maneuvering. Then again about the only thing I am good at in this game is the dying part, I just about got that mastered.

I do love my Avenger Stalker though the Stalker's lack of cargo space is a little annoying as can't do any minor trading but it was the first ship I pledged however many years ago. It does make me miss the days there was the free freelancer in everyone's hanger for that change of scenery and the extra options (multi-crew / trading / small vehicle transport).

The Stalker is a cracking little ship - really looking forward to when those prisoner pods work and dedicated bounty hunters have an edge over more generic combat ships in that role. I’d really love an Avenger variant with minimal storage but extra fuel so I can use one as my daily driver.

I want to get a Starfarer, but I have never gotten close to running out of fuel while running around and when I start to get low there is a station right nearby to refuel. It just seems like a mechanic that I can't use yet.

A2 is in my opinion the best allrounder large ship available right now, with a medium amount of SCU, a staggering amount of firepower, good agility, great transport options. Fully crewed the A2 is the best ship in the game bar none

The ship not on your list that I think should be, the Banu Defender. I think fits about the same spot as the sabre but it has inventory for holding your stuff, and a bed in case you need to log out at a location a ways away.

The Pisces has slowly crept up to be one of my favorite ships. A lot of the same flexibility of the Avenger, but in a smaller package. While its shields are pretty weak, it's armed well enough to punch above similar sized ships, the cargo space to size is unparalleled, and it's super cheap. However, what really pushes it above for me, is that it can fit in the cargo bay of a C2, and I believe is the only ship with a walkable interior that can do so. I've had more than a few missions where I died, then flew back in the Pisces, loaded it into the C2 and took both ships back, or just landed in an org mate's ship when meeting up with them.

I do not understand the love of the pisces. It has no amenities and only holds 1 SCU more than an aurora. Aurora MR is faster and has an extra shield and double the hull HP. Both ships can mount same weapons. Aurora has a bed for logging or transporting a single guest. The pisces is 50% more cost than an aurora and you get an extra seat for a friend and a larger interior open space.

@@Power5 The larger interior and not entering through a ladder matters a lot. You can fit a 1scu box in the Pisces, which gives it a pretty significant edge right now. I haven't tried it, but you might also be able to fit one of the hoverbikes in the cargo area. You can also fit a lot more people in a Pisces if you don't care about them getting jostled around a bit. On top of that, the Pisces is intended as a snub ship, and is accordingly a lot more space efficient. You can't fit an Aurora in the landing bay of a Carrack. You might be able to fit an Aurora in a C2 cargo bay, but it'd take up most of the space if it did, where as you can easily fit 1-2 Pisces with plenty of room for other vehicles or cargo. While the Aurora may have more hull hp, it also breaks a part a lot easier, and you're a lot more likely to lose maneuverability or components. It also handles quite a bit worse in atmosphere than the Pisces. While the Aurora is slightly better as a starting ship, the Pisces fills a niche that keeps it useful even after you upgrade to bigger and better ships. And especially now, with one of the better sources of money being looting bunkers and selling off all the valuables, the Pisces is all you need to start making good money. Just generate a 1scu box, get yourself some fps gear, and start hitting bunker missions. Even has space for a couple buddies. The small size also really helps getting close without the turrets having line of sight on you.

Industrial ships do definitely look better with bear paint, makes them feel more suited to their task
