What I love about the beetle: No matter which challenge, which racing series or which obstacle: There always some dude that makes the beetle dominate over competitiors with twice or more horsepower. Rally beetles stood up against Alpines and Porsches. Rallycross Beetles beat Porsches, Escorts and Stratos. Drag Beetles won against Muscle Car Legends. Don't get me started on offroad challenges, the Baja 1000 probably would'nt exist without that car. It is one of the most impressive race cars that ever existed. A really simple, reliable, cheap and lightweight platform. And thats the reason they sold over 21 Million and maniacs like this dude could race with T70 and GT40. The standard car is pathetically slow, but the potential is huge. It deserves more recognition in the racing world.

Let's see... a twin-engine, ~400kg beetle, 800LB-FT+ of TORQUE, with an 8-in-1 exhaust system & an improvised intake, AND remains 3rd place against Lolas & cars that are fully designed to RACE... Now that's what I like to call impressive.

So this Beetle almost has the power to weight of the One:1 ,has 4.4 dual engine, 400 and something kilos. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I don't see anything wrong but damn this Brazilians surprise me everytime single time. Now this what I call a Unsung Hero, no even better a *Unsung Legend*.But I think if it was a Twingo It would be even better.

I had the privilege to seeing this machine very up close some years ago. You have no idea what this Beetle does on the track! Deafening! Small in size, but unimaginably large in power. Terrifying! Just it!

Well, the 1960s were clearly a crazy time, when you create a racing Beetle with a power to weight ratio of 1:1 and still do well in a race against the fastest cars of its time. Or can you imagine something similar happens nowadays, like an absolute bonkers VW Golf, which can keep up with the LMP1 Toyotas?

This car was made by the Fittipalde brothers, Wilson and Emerson. I had two 4 cylinder 1600cc VW motors connected by the crankshafts. This connection was the 'Aquiles heel' and many times failed, but when they were able to race it with the two motors it was unbelievably fast ! I saw it racing in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, driven by Wilsinho ( Wilson Fittipaldi ) in the late 60s or early 70s, I'm not sure. Although it was racing with only one of it's two motors, it was very fast ! ( In this race Emerson Fittipaldi raced in a Corcel Bino . The Corcel was a Renault based car built by Ford do Brasil . )

I was at Interlagos circuit the first time this amazing Beetle run. It was realy impressive and fast. As far as I know the weakest point of this car was the piece that united the two crankshafts.

One interesting fact is: The body you see on the race, with the flared fenders is not the same as in the modern pictures. It was a fiber glass body, so thin that even pushing the car warped the whole shell.

The car in the modern photos is a replica of the original car. Note the difference in the windshield (front glass). In the original, the window is tilted, the air to cool the engine passes through a "tunnel" over the pilot's head. In the recreated car the front glass is vertical. See photo 6:10 e 8:38

What a kickass Beetle! The ingenuity! This reminds me of an equally unorthodox VB - a Squareback GASSER with the same dual-engine configuration in the FRONT, and it unlike the car, it does have 8 exhaust pipes! 😂😂. Recently featured in a vid by VW Trends Magazine (I think that’s the right mag…). Thanks for sharing- I subbed.

It better be very light!!! Because 260hp out of an 8 cylinder is pretty anemic!!! Especially for a race engine. You could get an average V8 American sedan with over 300hp……

Yeah, but in the time a 4.9 v8 from ford Maverick its only capable of 197hp here in Brazil, a 3.3 engine its lighter, and heave more power.
