What an enjoyable video! My favorites are Vladimir Bobri and Tony Sarg (even his more showman-like work), and it's especially interesting that both were active creatively outside the strictly pictorial.

Here is a fun fact about Tony Sarg: We were watching the movie Week-End at the Waldorf (1945). At that time, the Waldorf had a small restaurant called Tony Sarg Oasis. The walls were decorated with a mural depicting what was clearly Sarg's animal art. Around a year ago, we saw a nice exhibit of Tony Sarg's wide range of work at the Norman Rockwell Museum. Keep up the great work, Pete! It's a treat to relax at the end of my workday and watch your Unsung Heroes videos.

@@petebeard Ads' do not put me off and I let them run rather than skip them in the hope it will benefit the creator more. My guess is that a very large following is needed before they generate any income. And your work is so excellent that it deserves a much larger following. So stick with it Pete as viewing numbers will steadily grow. Good luck.

Hello Pete.... I'll bet you guessed my first choice again.... yep, Tony Sarg. It's amazing how a lot of these artists gravitated towards NYC where opportunities flourished, and they still do, but you have to be a city dweller to enjoy it. Thanks to the internet a lot has changed. Can you imagine what it would have been like if these artists of the past had the internet. I was born and raised well before the internet surfaced so I can relate to some of them in my attempts to "get out there". Thanks for another enjoyable video.

It isn't possible to know the ages of people who write comments under these presentations. One wonders if young designers and students are among them who appreciate what a superb resource they are for both further research and stimulus. One can have very few negative responses. Although I find the selection of background music enjoyable I also as a musician myself (as well as designer) find it sometimes interferes with the commentary, forcing an effort to try and focus on both! But I can't really imagine them or the information presented being done any better, so enjoyable and well integrated are they.
@petebeard3 жыл бұрын
Hi again and my thanks for your continued enthusiasm for the channel content. The statistics are that the biggest age group watching is the over 50s. They account for about 40% of views. 18 to 24 year olds come in at just under 10%. Tells you all you need to know really. As far as the music is concerned I'm aware that on some videos the music is too dominant. The reason is twofold - first I'm a bit deaf so getting the balance isn't easy. Secondly, I really don't care for the sound of my own voice and early on kept it down in the mix out of self-conciousness. Later videos aren't so bad as viewers- perverse at that seems to me - seem to like my voice. And last, I'm not sure I got your reference about magazines and marriage. What am I missing?
@michaels78893 жыл бұрын
@@petebeard Don't worry about the aside. As a student in the 1950's I recall having beautifully designed and illustrated magazines about art and design which suddenly just disappeared. I collected them, despite my poverty. But they took up space and marriage as a student meant a small home. And yes, your voice and expression as well as what you have to say all communicate very well your enthusiasm for the subject matter. I try to avoid this kind of comment because it can be interpreted as patronising, which is the last thing I would wish. The videos are thoroughly enjoyable in their totality and frankly I am amazed by them. They shame me!

@petebeard4 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for your positive response. Arnold was very forward looking and wouldn't look out of place in a book or magazine now. And I hate to generalise but the Germans really did seem to have a weakness for disturbing grotesque imagery. Personally I can't get enough of it.

I almost skipped this when KZbin wanted me to choose when I'm bombarded with commercials, but because I love your videos I chose when I got reamed.... didn't make feel better. P.S. I do love your videos and don't mind you monetizing the work you put into them. I don't like choosing my poison, just show the advertisements, and don't call it a "choice".
@petebeard4 жыл бұрын
Hello and apologies for the ads. If it's any consolation on the current showing of revenue I'm unlikely to try monetization. Probably not worth it to get on viewer's nerves. I'll give it another month and if it doesn't make more than chump change I'll go back to ad-free.

@@petebeard That makes me sad as all the work you put into them is valuable. I just love your videos, and will always look forward to the next. I watch a lot other videos that have commercials, it isn't that bad. The idea of choosing seems unnecessary, but that may reflect more on what an old fuddy-duddy I've become. And your music deserves to be recognized also, or so say I.

(edited slightly Feb. 6, 2024) Karl Maximilian Arnold German, 20th century, male. Born 1 April 1883, in Neustadt; died 1953, in Munich. Illustrator, caricaturist. Karl Arnold studied at the art academy in Munich, in Franz Stuck's studio at the same time as Klee and Kandinsky. From 1907, he contributed to the illustrated satirical magazine Simplicissimus in which he became a shareholder, and also worked for the weekly journal of art, poetry and social satire Youth ( Jugend). In 1913, he helped found the Neue Sezession (New Secession) in Munich, the association of avant-garde artists from which the Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) movement originated. He also illustrated many authors' books, including The Land of Cocagne ( Das Schlauraffen Landt) by Hans Sachs, and produced bitterly hostile drawings illustrating the misery caused by the war in German towns.
