From a technical stand point, and I hope I'm not the only one out there that hears this, but the alto player's middle range is speaking really well and is very nice and bright. Unlike a lot of guys who play on Mark VIs, Kyle Myers has really got the middle of his horn figured out nicely and his tone is just sublime. Truly a wonderful example of what a modern alto player should strive for in his sound, in my eyes. Keep it up, man, and keep your awesome arrangements coming

Just not the same as when I was there in the 60's with Director Leon Breeden, Billy Harper, Tim Bell, Lou Marini, Galen Jeter, John M on bass and Ed Soph....sounds slow and halting to me, but I am old Father William.

I guess that's 'cuz in the 1960s, new jazz was just unfolding--along with Beatles music, etc, it was THE music of that time. 'Trane had just passed away, civil rights were exploding, Miles fusion was soon to come and college big bands hadn't really yet bursted into life (until the early 70s.) In the performance posted here, the guys are just playing "a style"...and it could just as well been swing or Dixie. In the 60s, all the music, arts and social fabric were being ripped apart and there was electricity in everywherethe air. There was a lot of charisma and sense of outrageousness too, even in many players personalities. Today, "jazz" is just another skill set.
