A 1000 watt light bulb gets cranked up "until it pops" with ever increasing power. The lamp also gets a couple of million watts in an instant just for fun.

Ì'd say for what you're doing, you want a little shotgun mic on top of your camera, something like a rode videomic. It will reject sound from behind, and be far away enough to not hear your clothes rustle, but it will capture the sound of the room, meaning you get everyone talking, as well as the sound of things going pop. For a more advanced solution, you could get an external stereo recorder, like a zoom h1 or a zoom h4n

@JohnL908088 жыл бұрын
It's not like he does this sort of thing everyday. A 100 W light bulb left on for a month would cost more than his 20,000 W power supply on max use in one hour.

***** I'm relatively new to photonic induction, only been here since 2015. Though I still imagine it costs a heck of a lot for the set up costs/equipment even if the energy is cheaper than I thought. Though thanks I should watch that video! :)

Do you take requests? an until it pops of a PC Power Supply? Everytime I have had one of these fail on me normally they are pretty impressive bangs and light shows, be even more interesting at high voltage
@metacustomcomputers34268 жыл бұрын
If PSUs fail on you that often, you should consider investing a little bit more money and buying a brand PSU from brands like SeaSonic or Super Flower. I'm exclusively using those brands for customer PCs and up till now not a single one failed. Also for your request, Photon should definitely take a chinese no-name one, because trying to pop a SeaSonic or Super Flower PSU will be pretty tiring, since first you need to manually remove the Over-Voltage Protection, the Under-Voltage Protection, the Over-Power Protection, the Short-Curcuit Protection and the Temperature Protection before you could try to pop it. Kind regards, Meta Custom Computers
@BenjaminEsposti8 жыл бұрын
^^^ Meta Custom Computers, I agree with you. Besides, it's good to get a well made PSU, since because it is less likely to break, you will have less motherboards that need replacing as well.. XP Those cheap ass ones sold for like $5 to $20 dollars simply aren't up to the task. I've seen plenty that are labelled for "400W" or even "850W" yet the internal guts were only good for about 200W. And with the lack of OPP, what happens is the switching transistors on the primary side will blow once the transformer core saturates. Can easily send a surge into the motherboard, which can fry it to buggery!
@TeeborGames8 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Esposti The particular power supply I had in mind when writing that was an Antec "Server" PSU which while turned off and still connected to the mains exploded in a small light show complete with smoke. But things like safety and fuses don't seem to be a problem for Photon and they do have some lovely big caps and other things in them to go pop
@BenjaminEsposti8 жыл бұрын
Ahh, well, I'm not aware of Antec making server PSUs, but I'm sure it's quite possible for them to do so. I don't really trust Antec all that much though, especially with the Fuhjyyu capacitor fiasco they had. BTW it's always possible that even a good brand can make a bad PSU. I had someone give me a DELL SFF tower that went bang - the PSU is a common failure in certain dell machines. A google search revealed many complaints of them dropping like flies. I took the PSU apart and was going to fix it, but a particular hard to get IC was blown, so I didn't repair it. Just got a new one. The old PSU was made by HIPRO, which generally make decent power supplies (mostly for OEM's). The new PSU was much different internally, even though it had the same part number and revision number as the old one! Go figure ... (Not sure who made the new unit, it wasn't appearant. No marks on the transformers or PCB, but the PSU was well made with a two layer firbreglass PCB and DC-DC converters for the minor output rails.)

@terawattyear8 жыл бұрын
Great effect - glass vaporized or maybe it's pulverized. I have to wonder though, exactly what caused that explosion? Was it the internal pressure from vaporized tungsten? Was there enough gas left in the bulb to expand exponentially when the filament hit the temperature of the surface of the sun? Nicely done Photon!

You could calculate the electric power that goes into the light bulb (or anything else you destroy by capacitor discharge): Put a large resistor (several MOhm) parallel to the capacitor and measure it's voltage with an oscilloscope. Then set the trigger to falling voltage, do the discharge and see how quickly the voltage drops. Let's say it discharges to nearly 0 in 50 µs, this means the average power output during this time interval is about 50 million watts (E [J] = C U², E/t = P)
