You know a game is very well done where you feel bad for killing the villain in its last parts and when the good ending is the bad ending for most of us because we all liked constantine

Nice edit, very well put together. I ended up choosing the "dark ending", as despite my service and deeds, I was betrayed at every turn by most of the factions. In the end, it was Constantin who remained loyal, and so I chose to side with him.

I love hearing how folks interpreted Constantin's character and motivations - thank you for sharing! I'm so glad you liked this edit!

@@morgan9599 I really like this gmv too. I like to know too how people choose the fate of Constantin & why. I chose to kill him and I explain why : there is some truth in what Constantin says at the end, and we can understand what might have motivated him to do so. But he is shown to us as a somewhat immature person and thoughtless about the consequences of his actions from the beginning and therefore this ending is rather consistent with his irresponsible personality. I agree with En on mil frichtimen, Constantin being himself as corrupt as the old world, so we can assume that his "method" of destroying and then rebuilding will not really bring positive solutions and might rather make things worse, thus I choose to kill him and stop the corruption of the island he himself had created. The choice to kill him is not easy, as my De Sardet has been helping Constantin from the beginning and is attached to his cousin. She is also a bit indirectly responsible for what happens, as she is the one who brought the native healer to the palace to heal Constantin. But since my De Sardet from the beginning tries to create "peace and balance" with everyone and is rather on the side of the natives (she chose to go back to her origins and romanced Siora), Constantin's actions being against what she has been trying to do from the beginning, she therefore makes the choice to sacrifice him to save the others (the isle, the world & "her new family and her new friends"). And then symbolically it is also a way to renounce her "old life" and the person she was before, because "the old De Sardet" could never have killed her cousin.

Owlimusic. My reason to kill Constantin was different. My De Sarde loves Constantin, despite his immature behavior I believed that he would grow to be something great. If he was never infected, I’m sure he would have been, but being close to deaths door and seeing how the island magic could save him from ever having to experience that fear again changed him. His reasons may have made sense, but he would have destroyed everything to try and make a perfect world that would have destroyed everything. I killed him to stop him from destroying everything, but it wasn’t because I chose a “new family” over my old one. It was because I could see that the man in front of me was no longer the cousin I loved and I couldn’t allow him to pull everyone around him into the darkness, which he believed to the light

@@Wonderingwatcher I agree with you I think the same even if I explain it in a different way. Yes probably Constantin could have become a better man with wise people around him and good advices, but the people who poisoned him changed his destiny, so we never know what could have happened. But when you see your beloved cousin follow a "dark path" and become a "dangerous man" a bit like an "enemy" because his actions go against your "peacefull goals", it's like you loose him and so it's like you loose the "last member of your family". Because Constantin and De Sardet's mother seemed the only persons that really care & be important for De Sardet in her family. That why I said De Sardet "old family" because her mother is probably dead & her cousin is not "himself anymore", so it's like her "old family is dead". That's why I said she prefer to save her "new family" (the native) and "new friends" (the others companions) instead of him because she probably think her "old family is dead now". So I killed Constantin to save the isle & the world from destruction and in a way to save Constantin from himself too, because De Sardet tries to "bring him to his senses" until the end.

I ended up sacrificing Constantine even though I pitied him. His story has some genuine tragedy to it, though I also noticed from the beginning that despite meaning well, Constantine did have some egocentric, self important tendencies-and quite a bit of restrained (and savage) bitterness. It was really sad, but Constantine ended up being much more like his father than he would have ever cared to admit. ;_; The way in which he pursued power at the cost of others tragically made him much like the tyrants he condemns for betraying you: Prince D’Orsay, Torsten, Asili, the other faction leaders. And what he asks of you-loyalty at any cost-is the exact same thing Torsten expected of Kurt. I actually perceived Kurt and De Sardet’s “ultimate test” as being strikingly similar. Externally they are both faced with a conflict between their professional loyalties and a deeply personal loyalty. The professional loyalty carries the fate of many people they care about and are responsible for, as well as many people who have treated them poorly. Their personal loyalty involves someone they truly love, have served and protected for many years, and have been called to take arms against. No matter what they do, they will have to be a traitor to someone today, and someone they love will surely die. It’s eerily similar. What makes the difference between the “right” choice (arguably) is the internal conflict between Honor (or integrity) or Loyalty-which one must lead? If those two virtues are in conflict, which one should rule the other? Blind loyalty leads Kurt to betray you out of devotion to his people. Blind loyalty would also lead De Sardet to betray her fellow companions, friends (and enemies) who came to her aid, the natives (who don’t want them as their gods) and all the powerless innocent people who had no say in this conflict, but will suffer for it nonetheless, out of devotion to Constantin. And both sides urging blind loyalty are attempting to manipulate their wards through the temptation of “building a better world” for those they care for....at the expense of others of course. And indeed, Constantin rightly points out the world *has* used and betrayed him and De Sardet, but has it ever treated Kurt any better either? Good grief no-it treated him far, far worse. It is my belief the game is hard on players tempted to judge Kurt too harshly by quite literally putting them into his exact same predicament. Do you think his trial was easy? That his failure was so incomprehensibly wicked, or his success so easily bought? Fine. *Your turn.* The game makes you stand in his shoes, walk his road, and has Constantin ask of you what Torsten expected of him. So what are you going to do? Ultimately the “right” lesson both Kurt and De Sardet must learn is that “honor” must lead “loyalty.” It is personal integrity that should compel your actions and determine your loyalties, even if that means those precious, dearly loved loyalties must shift. You must do what is right regardless of the cost-and if someone asks you to do evil in the name of loyalty, you aren’t a traitor for disobeying. They are the traitor for asking such of you. Torsten attempted to use Kurt as a pawn, and asked him to do something that betrayed who he was as a person. And when Honor leads Loyalty, he realizes commitment to the ideals of the Guard is greater than commitment to the direction of the Guard. Torsten is the real traitor, and he chooses faithfulness to his own integrity, which leads him (in no small gesture) to your side. This is no cost less choice, as it means Kurt must raise his sword against his own people in your defense-many of who are the abused “graduates” of the ghost camp. With each coin guard he cuts down to protect you, he is cutting down a mirror image of his own past. Integrity comes to him at great cost. Constantine loves De Sardet, but in his madness, it has become a toxic, possessive, destructive love. One that comes at the expense of others who trust you-innocent or otherwise. And when Honor leads Loyalty, De Sardet realizes the cousin she loves is already gone, and deserves true rest. What’s left of him must be stopped-as before, integrity comes to her at great cost.

great video. But Constantin dies in itttt. T_T *weep* I regret killing him...although I had literally THE BEST outcome for everyone else. I was unhappy with my happy ending. And I realized at the end that Constantin was the character I liked and missed most.
