Nice idea. I believe it is far less likely, though. Amiable pragmatism surpasses tribalism until the cards are down and a threat is encountered. Then life eats itself.

It's actually getting a LOT better. I'm from South Africa (think Apartheid), but you should see my friend group - every colour, creed and age - all joined by group psychosis and dark humor 😂 Sure, there are those in power trying to divide humans by colour or religion or whatever.. but people are figuring that "divide & conquer" tactic out luckily! 😊 Personally, I've friends from 5 continents, God only knows how many countries - and we all for the main believe the same. Treat me well, I'll treat u better - no matter colour, creed or status, its the heart that counts..

Tribalism is the norm, not the exception. When the wifi is gone and the tendies don't dash, civilization will return to what it always was. Without electricity, we all starve to death. As much as I wish it was otherwise, human nature is far more like our history than our sci-fi. The same proclaiming unity are rarely humanists. They just want biases in their favor. Power. Revenge. At least we still have our electricity for today.

This is the first story I disliked. Not for the narration or plot: but for authors normalization of a term outside it's acceptable use. I don't care that the gentleman's life partner was another male: he coud be in a tryst with whole band and I'd go Captain Kirk. Back some time ago being chief mugwump of children's table at family reunions I shared some 19th century poetry with my nieces that I enjoyed. It had a word for happy that rhymed with "hay". Myself unmarried and unable to keep a relationship this carried conotains and concerns. In the 1990's an "active shooter" was a person active in more than one field of the shooting sports, trap, high power, small bore, bullseye etc. Now say that aloud in a room of 20 somethings and a dozen calls to 911 everyone clears out and you may have just screamed fire in a crowded movie theater. I don't care if they were two same sex life mates, or both were in relationship with lead female singer. "Husband" has a specific meaning and I object to its use here in this context.
@kaliban47583 ай бұрын
When two people are married, what do you think they should be called? They can't do husband and wife because there are two males and two females can't do husband and wife, what else are they going to call their partner in marriage?
@sjan.evardsson3 ай бұрын
First, you complain about my - "normalization of a term outside it's acceptable use." I'm sorry, but since when did husband not mean male spouse? Then, you follow up with examples of how meanings of words and terms change over time, before reiterating that you don't like the use of the word husband for a male spouse -- but only in the case that both spouses are male. My brother has a husband and is a husband. That's how the word works. How long will I keep writing stories that trigger homophobes? Until there are none.
@christinepearson57883 ай бұрын
@@sjan.evardsson even in Laconia (Sparta) there was a different term used between relationships in barracks and husband and wife. If there are examples of male-male relationships where both parties were "husband's" somewhere in history before the LGBQ comunity in last twenty years please enlighten me. Respect is a two way street, and your retort of slur instead of examples in discourse shows where prejudice lies.

@@christinepearson5788 The FIRST legal, same-sex marriage took place in The Netherlands in 2001. So yes, the entire concept of legal, same-sex marriage is barely more than 2 decades old. That does not invalidate it.
