Installing the CHEAPEST Amazon head unit in my IS300

Today I'm installing the cheapest double din touch screen head unit in my is300 just to see how it is. Overall the installation went pretty smoothly but honestly I kind of hated the functionality of the radio. let me know what you guys think!

You could have avoided all this by getting the amplifier bypass harness for the IS300. It wires to your new head unit and then directly connects to the factory amplifier’s connector bypassing the amplifier completely. All the audio functions you were mentioning in the video are then controlled by the new head unit as is the norm. The connector from the amplifier also provides the 12v ignition power, ground, and 12v constant for the new head unit. You get a cleaner install and get much cleaner audio quality. No line output converter or anything else degrading the quality of the audio. You also get the benefit of having the new head units internal amplifier powering the speakers and having them play better.

So the only issue I have with this is that the factory amplifier is approximately 2-3 feet away from where the head unit plugs in so the bypass harness would have to be pretty long and unsightly. With this method, if I ever do choose to return to stock its literally one connector right behind the head unit and all the aftermarket wiring is out of the car. Also honestly I haven't noticed a drop in audio quality between this and the factory radio and if I did, I would sooner suspect the cheap head unit than the wiring kit.

Irvin Ortega The bypass harness is long enough for the user to install right out of the package. You route it behind the head unit to the right behind the glove box and down to the factory amplifier. There is plenty of space behind the dashboard and glove box to route the wires nicely. I’m glad you’re having a good experience with the way you installed it, because I have come across a few situations where the audio was crap and/or it stopped working after some time. Since then I always use the bypass harness for audio upgrades. Putting back the car back to stock is just as simple. I’ve owned 5 IS300’s so far and if you ever decide to upgrade the speakers or when the speakers start degrading and tearing, you’ll need to bypass the amplifier to get the new speakers to run properly.

For sure but at this point my factory speakers are in perfect working condition so I don't really feel the need to upgrade. Once I put a real head unit in and start thinking about subs and expanding my audio system I'll definitely be bypassing and removing factory amp for a nice aftermarket one but thats not really a priority for me rn

@@yesca6893 I used the Alpine Type R speakers, which are 100 watts RMS so I highly recommend that you use an 4 channel amplifier. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Pretty Sweet dude, I just used your Amazon links to order the stuff to finally do the install of my stereo. Bought this stereo probably two years ago and never did the install because of the wiring. I went with a stereo from Crutchfield. I bit higher quality brand but always worth it. Love Crutchfield for ordering car stereo stuff. Hope to post an install video soon.

So the scoshe is for a 173mm stereo. The stereo you got is a 178mm

I think you should have inserted the head unit from the front side of the frame. A friend has the same unit and the same frame and it fitted perfectly. The knob should be sticking out of the frame. Well that’s how we mounted it anyways. But other than that nice job with the crimping and shrink wrap keep it up

So I'm not 100% sure but I think the 2001 has different connector types at the back of the radio that I haven't seen a plug and play harness for. I know a lot of people end up bypassing the factory amp but I'm not sure if this kit would still integrate.

😂😂 I'm actually going to film one pretty soon! But it's gonna involve replacing the thing... tbh it's not horrible, it's never given me any REAL issues but it's definitely not what I want in my car. But if you're on a strict budget and want Bluetooth it does the job
