Resilience is the strain energy stored within an elastic limit. Proof resilience is the maximum strain energy which can be stored upto elastic limit. In reality, PL and EL are so close to each other also once the material is loaded beyond the proportionality limit hookes law is not valid as the curve is non linear. Generally we consider deformations are so small hence it can be neglected and we assume upto this point is elastic limit. Once we assuming it why dont we apply a straight away an area formula(1/2bh) to determine proof resilience?? But you are completely negelecting the area. My question is why dont we consider those area too by assuming it as straight line as the deformation is very very small we can neglect the deformation and it can be assume it as a straight line na.

The term Modulus depict about "throughout the volume" means we are specifying that the perticular material which is loaded or unloaded, Resisting (interanal Resisting force) to the external applied load in order to maintain the shape. Now some points I want to put clear the misconceptions accepted by us. 1.There is no stress measuring device in entire world so how could we plot stress vs strain diagram? Ans is ,it is Load vs deformation diagram. Load/resisting area is Stress. 2. Deformation means not failure. 3. Rigidity term comes in picture when the plane,any plane you can take on any shape of material (square,round bar, hex shape....any) if you applied any load/force and if can visualise that plane is shifted or deviated for that case we use Rigidity term. Why Rigidity ? The term rigid means no changes in distance between any molecules of rigid material. So if use term rigidity means you can use it like how much rigid is that material. Lesser the value of Rigidity more will you see changes in its dimensions. 4. Ductility : Plastic deformation response of material under tensile load 5. Malleability: Plastic response of material under compressive loading

Dear Sir, In my opinion, the error in using elastic limit should be lesser than that by ignoring that area.

I think there is some mistake in it. Because if PL and EL are so close, why can't we consider from origin to EL as a straight line and find the area? According to the graph (stress-strain) area under the curve, PL EL will be much greater than the small tangential area formed by the curve itself(1/2 dy/dx). This could reduce the error. The reason why we take the area under the proportional limit might be something else. What do you think?
@ExergicGATE4 жыл бұрын
Distance between PL and EL is different for different materials as mentioned in the video. Some sources do consider it upto EL. Some do consider it upto YPL as well as mentioned in the video. But triangle stops being existing after PL. And so this formula derived from Hooke's Law cannot be applied. We have definite sources to prove this reasoning.

You said that we can ignore the area but in this question the ignored area calculated comes to be approx. 3 times than the modulus of resilience you have calculated. How can that be justified?
@ExergicGATE4 жыл бұрын
In this question, PL, EL and YPL are already way far from each other. And added only to test this specific knowledge.

If both proportionality and elastic limit points(practically) very close to eachother, then taking elastic limit value and calculating modulus of resilience should be near to one taking with proportionality limit. So why cant we take elastic limit??
@ExergicGATE4 жыл бұрын
This point has already been explained in the video. We can take EL or YPL also as mentioned in the video. But exact point should be PL, not other points.
