Not more stuck, but an as-epic recovery. Young and dumb a friend and I dove down a steep embankment into a dry riverbed. And once down we discovered his 4wd front axle disconnect was broken and my tire chains were ineffective. No winch between us. My HiLift and every shoestring of rope we had stretched to the nearest tree. We HiLift winched a couple inches at a time because that’s all the stroke it had left after the ropes stretched. But we got us out!

So some mates and I were up at woods point/ Aberfeldy, Vic area and we decided to try this track. I drive a pathfinder on 31s and we quickly find ourselves at the point of no return. And to get back out, it’s hundred of meters of 33-35” cut out ruts and rock steps. Those 6 kms took over 7 hours to do, constantly having to turn around my mates car to winch me… I was winchless! I’ve never been more stuck. 👍

The only recovery I would have liked to see in this compilation, would be the one where Jesse recovered the Ranger with the trailer on the back, using the GQ race truck. that was absolutely mental

Don't think I will do Tasmania! Excercise Grass Parrot, Shoalwater Bay, Feb. 68. Every vehicle in the Battery was stuck and left behind with a skeleton crew to get them out, Shouts of joy when you got one unstuck and made 10 metres. We didn't have anything modern like Maxtraxs so we cut down smallist trees and laid them across the road. Our Landrovers didn't have winches but he had mandromic 'Turfor' winches..Took days and we got nowhere.

Great compilation! My advice here on Nr.1 would have been to winch @ +/- 45degreeds right, going forward, but first to move mud from the stuck left front wheel, sort of making a "ramp" up and out. By doing so you almost force the vechile out of the suction created, but also allow for some harder surface on the front end, lessoning drag on winch. Try it next time, has undone many tractors this way during planting season.

Yalwal (Monkey gum fire trail). Is one of my fave places to go when there is a chance of it being wet. My '94 troopy is locked and loaded so, not bothered by the wet condition's besides, swollen creek's n stream's being impassable so, three young bloke's in their minimally equipped Luxy(front locker, front bar no winch), Triton(front locker and almost bald A/T tyres no bar work) & 80's zook(fearless driver, positive attitude) came with me. I had to recover all three vehicle's at least once then, I put mine on it's side about three quarter's the way up. No damage but, I had a red face for a while. One of the best days of off road fun ever.

My bogged story. Years ago we owned an old 90's Pajero lwb wagon and used to visit my wife's uncles 25 acre farm in Mudgee NSW a few times a year to get away from Sydney. One weekend we decided to visit and go wheeling around the property, we came up to what looked like a fairly easy steep climb which we had to drive through a dam overflow ravine, the ravine looked a little damp when we walked it first so thought lets send it. Got up with no issues at all, wife and kids loved it and my sons both said "again daddy" so off we went. Drove down another trail to attempt it again, but this time just as we hit the ravine I felt the front of the car dip down and forward movement stopped, no problems, hit reverse but no, the back of the car sunk down. I took just one more attempt to go forward and reverse and by this stage it hit the rails, it was proper bogged. No winch, no trees in front or behind to winch even if I had one, no high lift jack, nothing, except for and old TEA20 Massey Ferguson tractor on the property, thought we were saved. Went and got the tractor set up the rope on the rear, got the missus to drive the Paj while I manned the tractor...apart from some impressive tractor wheelies the Pajero is stuck. The other problem was to get to the car you had to drive through a back gate and do a sharp right to avoid driving into a ditch then go further down about 50m to do another hard left over that ravine to drive up where the Pajero was, this was the description I gave our local flat top tow truck guy to see if he was keen to give it a go...an hour later he was there, had a look and sent the truck down and around to get to the Pajero. He then reversed up to it me thinking he will snatch me but he tips the flat top right up so that it digs in then connects his top winch to my car and pop! Out she came. Much to my surprise he made back out with no problems and so did I of course, if it wasn't for him we would have had to catch a bus back to Sydney.

All this reminds me of a trip we did in Botswana in Africa a few years back. The terrain there is some places is sandy. We got stuck multiple times but we had one situation with a big V8 Touareg stuck on it belly in the sand. It could not get out under its own power or with tracks under the wheels. Luckily a we had a Defender in the convoy with a kinetic rope, after 2 failed attempts the Defender driver gunned it and that big Touareg flew about a meter in the air as it got unstuck. First and last time I've seen a fully loaded vehicle fly.

One time I got so stuck, in some mud, it wouldn't move forward or back, even an inch. So I tried what every 18 year old would try. I floored it, thinking that if I just dig down to where there is more traction, I'll get out. Well the old Toyota truck didn't find anything to grab on to, and down, down, down she went. I had a snorkel, on the truck and I had one for me. Neither were high enough. Mud started choking both me and the old Toyota. I finally decided to go for help. When I got back, with a helper and his tow truck, it was hard to find the truck, we had to watch for bubbles. We hooked up a 30,000 lb winch to get it out. The winch was struggling to get it out. It actually stretched the Toyotas frame and body! When we got it out it had two more doors and it said Nissan on it. I was astonished at the sight, but the tow truck driver assured me that it happens all the time.

I set up a clean up situation in one of our four-wheel drive trails after we got done cleaning they decided to shut down the whole section. Seriously we did all that work to clean up the whole area from loggers to normal trash bandits and when we got done the next day we're supposed to go out for a long ride out in the trails when we showed up there's a giant gate blocking the trailer off with a sign that says private property no trespassing. You guys are having the time of your life in my state there shutting down trails left and right pretty soon we're not going to have any trails around here where you can ride it's because people keep trashing them and destroying these people's property

I got to him no worries at all but on they way out was a different story, after getting him out of the bog hole I had to get him out of the track, then after breaking a cv I had to winch him and my self back to the main road, then I cooked my battery’s because my alternator died. So I had to snatch him the rest of the way in 2wd. Got him back home in the end:) got to love the 100 series Landcruiser

I was down in Albury and got soo bogged in a mudhole that id previously driven but got my line slightly wrong and just sank up to the door sills. Had a 4x4 passer by try snatch me out and snapped my snatcg strap Multiple times. Tried using the big heavy duty ratchet straps the 2500kg rated ones but used 2 and doubled up so it was 10T of strength and snapped 6 of those straps. Dug a heap and still nothing. Ended up having to get a backhoe to lift the front of the ute up and then drag me out as nothing was going to pull me out
