Masroor Ahsan( Bab ba) was my neihbour in Firdous colony in front of Golimar, and first lissani clashes was started from Firdous colony when Gohar Ayub and his followers riding on trucks celebarating Ayub khan victory set fire jhonparies in front of firdous colony, i am a eye witness of all this calashes include Lalukhet, when the resident comback from work they saw theirs house are burning.

You can't understand the Muhajir mindscape unless you delve into the pre 1947 contours of Muslim politics in India and the contemptuous attitude that the North Indian Muslim elite harboured towards the muslims of Sindh and the North west Frontier province. 90% of R&AW assets in Pakistan were Muhajirs . You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that - the linguistic facility, the vindicability of frequent trips to India on account of extended families, the presence of familial constituencies in India which afforded a certain balance of power between the one who hired and the one who was hired ,the very plausible and known grievances of the Muhajir community against the Pakistani state ... so forth

Thanks for making this discussion possible. From a historical perspective, there seems to be plenty of factual information available, necessary to connect the dots. Though, I was just a school-going kid in the 1960s, I could relate to the narrative with plenty of interest and understanding. However, the discussion falls apart when the crunch time in Karachi's devastation arrives in the mid-1980s. None of the guests could come up with elaborate, coherent, and specific reasons in explaining the lack of political will on part of different governments. Also, issues like corruption, real estate mafias, and administrative incompetence could not be addressed with sufficient emphasis. The PPP must realize that ZAB simply cannot come to their rescue anymore. On the other hand, Karachites must also realize that MQM are just a bunch of slogan mongers and nothing more.

The whole argument of why Islamabad was chosen as the capital of Pakistan collapsed in 1971 when the Indians attacked Karachi through air and waters, Karachi Port burned for nearly a week after the Indian Navy struck the port in the early days of the war. Air bases, naval bases and civilian areas were bombed by the Indian Air Force in Karachi, many PAF's pilots lost their lives in dogfights. Karachi was vulnerable to attacks straight from 1947 so I would say that Islamabad was a perfect choice since the capital is protected by mountainous terrain and is connected to all cities through motorways.

Dear Team Raftar, Question: Why is whatever little public infrastructure developed during JI, MQM, PPP terms has substandard quality. A tunnel on Sharae Faisal inaugurated not long ago is in dilapidated condition. You're mixing up two things. First infrastructure during JIs tenure was pretty good tunnels, bridges and schools made during Naimatullah Khan are still standing but as with any infrastructure especially roads maintenance is required which obviously wasn't done by later parties. And since you specifically mentioned JI, the last government school, last water pipeline upgrade (K3) and a huge number of overpasses/roads (eg. Flyover of Hassan Square, lyari expressway) were made during JIs tenure.
