This innings right here proves the difference between Virat and Sachin. Sachin just had way more range as a batsman. Was more of an attacking batsman than Virat, but if required, was more defensive as well. Also the joy crowd used to get. They were crazy for Sachin.

I got the DVD from where this interview came from. It came out nearly 20 years ago and it’s called “The Modern Masters”. Chappell also talks about Viv Richards getting hit on the head by a bouncer and laughing, Mark Waugh’s fielding and a bet that he and the ch 9 statistician had about when Richard Hadlee would reach 300 wickets. Allan Border also tells some stories and it shows highlights of certain players.

One thing I noticed that sachin used his feet against the spinners quiet a bit which was a trademark strategy against spinners hence the success of batsmen, off late I have seen batsmen particularly indians not using this , this is why they are failing against spinners more often than not.

The only thing differentiating Kohli from Tendulkar is Sachin's backfoot game..... Sachin had that natural instinct of going way deep to something marginally short(Both against Spin and Pace) and BANG......... Kohli somehow lacks that in test cricket cause he a predominantly front foot player...... Some of those Balls from Robbinson and Waugh weren't all that short but to have the ability to go back so quickly(Knowing there is uneven bounce in the pitch) and then dismissing the ball... The Footork was so Decisive.... You hardly remember Sachin Wrong footed against spin.........Insane Talent.... Cricket Misses u Sachin
@oshizone5 жыл бұрын
Lot of Kohli's success is also because of lack of quality fast blowing... In tests and ODIs... No doubt he is a good player but bad blowing makes his life easy
@tarunaggarwal76485 жыл бұрын
oshizone well that is a bit too harsh sir.... we have seen kohli demolish malinga johnson starc at the peak of their careers... india used to be 10/3 20-3 with amir firing all guns and this guy was hitting him punches off the backfoot... 2 40-50 odds in both innins in johanseberg off late with the pitvh throwing all kinds of demons....so by no means he is just ‘a good player’... the bowlers are same for every batsman of his generation.... whether he is better than sachin or lara or ponting will always be debatable, but he is argubly the best of his generation...

@sayandeokulkarni53445 жыл бұрын
@@AmanSingh-pg3fz nice joke Aman singh, are you still kid , maybe you are, you probably born after ,2000's you definitely know nothing about cricket. There is like very big difference in Sachin and Kohli, and first difference is "attitude". And second is Kohli can't play single ball of Shane Warne, he really can't all he played is against low class bowlers and all his big scores are because of batting favoured pitches. He is a good player but really nothing compared to Sachin, actually not even close to Rahul Dravid . These two were masters of class cricket. Kohli may play big shots but only on bad deliveries Sachin could play 10 shots for the same ball. And if the greatest of all cricketers say that Sachin is the best then your shit opinion doesn't matter cause you are also sitting in home and barking. We don't hate Kohli , we just don't like him to compare with the Greatest of all time .

@betadevb5 жыл бұрын
@@zane01235 Sachin averages 58 in tests and 48 in ODIs between 94 to 99. Completely transforms batting - he was among the fastest scorers in this period. All this against quite possibly the best bowling the world has ever seen. Sachin didn't have too many close finishes - partly why people don't understand his greatness. I remember this test very well. Australia never caught up to sachin in this series, after this innings. He made it look too easy. Just watch the highlights of this innings, followed by the 70 odd he scored in the very next test at Eden Gardens. The thing that always gets me about Sachin is that he averages higher than Sanga in Sri Lanka - and played most of his cricket there against the best bowling in Lankan conditions (Vaas, Murali, Malinga, Mendis).
@NeophyteCounsel3 жыл бұрын
Alas the Tennis Elbow & the ageing! If this Tendulkar had continued longer, it would have been a different level of domination. Some of his innings and the shots he played, like he could literally play 3 different equally effective shots on each delivery. And then there was the technique. Thrilled both Purists & laymen alike.

@priyanshuchoudhary83195 жыл бұрын
I always prefer two ways of playing spin bowling. Either don't let it spin and get over it right when it is pitched or play it late at backfoot. If you try to pkay the spin in mid , it will always trouble you. That's what sachin did in this inning. Either he came out and hit it or waited for the ball to do its work and then play a cut. That 155 not out was off only 191 balls. Ian Chappell tells it spot on - the game was on the line. Tendulkar fails Australia win. He makes 150 India win. Let's also not forget Muhammad Azzharruddin's 64 matching Tendulkar run for run in a partnership of 127 when Australia still had an outside chance. At home in India, Azzharruddin was as awesome as Tendulkar, and in the early part of Tendulkar's career, the only other Indian batsman who could perform outside of India.

Was that the time the two of them (Tendulkar and Azharuddin) put on a double century stand at a run a ball in 1996-97?

I think you forgot to mention the greatest overseas batsmen India has ever produced--Rahul Dravid.
@Bernie83306 жыл бұрын
Ghost By the time Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag and Ganguly were established after the turn of the new century and millennial, runs outside of India was no longer an unusual occurrence - Tendulkar and Azharuddin taught them to do that ... Dravid was an excellent player both at home and away, but he was not superior to Tendulkar in either scenario, even though he had better series on a couple of occasions.

Dravids debut was at lords, he scored a 90 odd runs, sachin never taught the likes of dravid, dravid created his own league with his never ending patience, sublime textbook shots and we all know when the team falls apart, dravid has been the savior for India a million times. sachin is popular, dravid is underrated, even the greatest WI batsman, Brian Lara when asked which cricketer he would chose to bat for his life, his answer was dravid, often regarded as the greatest test team in the world,Australias Glorious 11,Steve waugh once mentioned dravid would get an automatic selection in our team not sachin, just few examples from the goats of cricket. Sachin created history with records and 100s,dravid played for the team, so it's a bit absurd to say sachin taught the likes of dravid.

@@nitinlol345 dude if I started mentioning what legends have said about Sachin then it would require a complete book read, Tendulkar was the best the game ever saw, I don't agree Dravid was a team man, he is highly overrated as a team man, Tendulkar scored more runs with a better strike rate and avg any day than Dravid, Dravid will surely be in India's test 11 but in world 11 I'll put Ponting and Kallis over him

Sachin hammers Warne, like school boy bowler being hit by a champion batsman. No one hammers Warne like Sachin did, that's remarkable batting by a legendary player like Sachin Tendulkar. Shane Warne can't believe his eyes, he has come prepared for a battle with Sachin, he thought he can win the battle against Sachin, in the end it's Sachin , who won the battle against Warne. Truly scintillating batting from indian master batsman.

If you can just ignore the fact that Ian Chappell is overly arrogant and critical in his scrutiny of many non Aussie players, it is actually interesting and fun listening to how well he brings forth so many facets and basics in his dissection of the game!! He is more often than usual spot-on with his analysis and understanding of the game!!
