Oh I would love for him to do more videos like this one. Not only is it a delight to watch but the advice/suggestions are very helpful. I like how he describes the way kubader does things with the cubemaps/lights - it's really funny because they're likely mistakes usually made by someone who just doesn't know better, as he explained, but Philip maintains a polite and positive approach toward giving this feedback. Very wholesome.

The fact that half the lights are warm & orange, while the others are cold & white, really shows his attention to detail. He said the map was set in Germany, and the types of lights in Germany vary based on what side it was during the Cold War. So, even if he doesn't name a city, he's decided to put the map right down the Berlin Wall, which is wonderful design choice!

Such a bittersweet story. That's a guy who obviously has such an intense passion for what he's doing, but sadly no one really cared. But with so much enthusiasm, he kept goind and kept putting a lot of detail, and most importantly *love* into his map(s). And that's what art is all about. And thanks to Papa Philip, he's now getting the attention he always deserved. He's one of billions who will get that privilege, and he should count himself lucky indeed! Though, I disagree with some of Philip's suggestions. I love the hidden detailed area, since it's a small easter egg that only a select few people will ever see. It doesn't do anything except look nice, but it's a reward for paying attention. And the lighting looks fine, it looks like the map is cast in twilight. An orange sky would ruin the complementary contrast of the blue sky with the orange lights, and full daylight makes it way too bright. It's a passion project, and honestly only the creator knows best what to do with it. Criticism is still important, but it's up to the creator what should and shouldn't be changed.

One thing I love about this channel isn't just that it focuses on CS:GO. You talk about creativity a lot, and that's important no matter what medium you're in. It's refreshing to hear somebody talk really candidly about it and try to actually dissect somebody's creation, and I wish it would be applied to other mediums people often just overlook. I want to make art people digest for a long time. Best of luck everybody

This limitation regarding entities not casting shadows has plagued Valve's engines since GoldSrc/Half-Life 1 times. The issue is that entities aren't considered a part of the solid geometry of the level. For example, trying to cover a hole between the level and the "void" will still cause a leak as the entity isn't a part of the hull. As such, entities don't contribute to the VIS or RAD/radiosity stages either, and lightmaps aren't applied on entities. I think it was even worse in GoldSrc though. Entity walls (for example crushable walls by trigger) stood out like a sore thumb. The whole engine design of the source engine is really showing its age.

Great video, wonderful mini-doc! Although the lighting and skybox that kubader used are so unique, I don't think they need any changing.

I can relate to this. I open Hammer editor more often than I play the actual game just because of how fun it is to create a location and write it in every single detail until, at last, you’re walking down its alleys with the knife in hand and friends and playtesters at your side.

I'd love to see more of this, maybe if this kind of detail takes a long while to put together you could do a video featuring a small collection of workshop maps and give some reasons why we should try them out. I love playing new maps, even though I only get to play them with bots it helps to keep the game fresh. Hopefully in the future Valve starts rotating community maps more frequently, like putting new maps in every month, as well as adding community made Wingman and Arms Race/Demolition Maps (since those haven't been changed since foreverrrr).

You´re just awesome Philip, much praise to you. I wish Valve created some MM version but the map pools just cycles through all top voted maps and then maybe let people vote at the end to keep them in the pool or whatever. Obviously they have to actually put effort into monitoring the workshop so it will never actually happen.
