As an artist and art history student who also had courses in archaeology, I long ago learned about the lower Nile kingdom of Egypt and the Nubian civilization. We know that we don't know about our human past. We know that all around the world are mysterious sites that pre date written history that have been found to have objects of such mystery, beauty and knowledge that show us how much of history remains a mystery. Thank you for your TED talk, very well done !

This is so true. I am mixed. In Hawaii we received kakau uhi (traditional Hawaiian tattoo). Now it is elective, but it used to be a right of passage and used for many different reasons. On my mothers side the priest and I traced my family tree in preparation for my uhi. I went as far back as 200BC before I called it quits for that time 😅. I am decended from Kings and Queens, tracing my roots back to the beginning of Hawaiian creation!! Out of that I gained even more understating to an already strong Hawaiian identity. I said all that to say this. Identity matters! There is a sense confidence you have when you know who you are and where you came from. There is also new found pride and a sense of self you walk with when you understand your roots. It is so powerful! I am now in the process of tracing my family tree on my fathers side and it has proven difficult. There is a lot that is lost when you are stripped of your family name, language, lands etc. But I am hopeful. Thank you or this much needed message and affirmation. Gave me the push I needed to keep going.

And previous migrations from Africa benefitted from those returning with the knowledge their difficult journeys had enriched them with, not to mention new genes from neanderthal and possibly Denisovan hominids. There is also history of trade, sharing of knowledge and the creation of families from these interactions between African, Eurasian, and the Anatolian farming groups who had migrated into Europe. Populations in Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia saw an influx of people from western Eurasia between 2,700 and 3,000 years ago.
