I’ve never seen this one before. Ever since seeing that great Abu Garcia video on the origin of that great company I have renewed my interest in these reels. I encourage all who love quality reels to watch that video. I like seeing a reel like this because it is so different. As you say, a very fascinating reel!

Hi Dennis, Engineering on this Abu reel is off-the-charts !! There seemed to be a new "twist" at every turn ? ie. exra locking rings, external drive housing, mini triple gears, individual drag configuration assembly parts, odd orientations and lastly a quirky pawl assembly !! Wow... Glad you were able to get a schematic, otherwise it might have gotten "reallllllllllly interesting" !!! Congrats on one of your Best video efforts ever... Well done, Cons

This one is very interesting. I liked how it performed in the post service testing. Very smooth and casts super easy. If you find one at a good price - get it. You won't be disappointed - Best wishes Cons - Dennis

Still strong in love with mine (EON 3601). In my opinion, a very underrated reel and still my favorite. I never quite understood why they stopped developing those planet gears. Really sound thing from an engenering pow. Smoothest drag ever! ... many thanks for the video, dennis. :)

Thanks for sharing! That is a great version of the reel and I am unsure why they decoded to discontinue the reel. - Dennis

That’s pretty cool Dennis it’s like a planetary gear setup on a heavy duty truck rear that’s fantastic

When I first seen you start this reel I thought it was going to be a real pain for you to do. Especially when I saw the 3 gears it reminded me of the 1989 Penn 2000 2 speed baitcaster you serviced for me this past spring. Thankfully this was much easier than that Penn. (which is working flawlessly by the way.) You have great patients Dennis. Thanks.

Great Video my Friend and I still have the 4000 series Abu I started on in the late 70’s lol and with care these will last a long time. I’ve noticed the China Abu’s are built a bit different so I stay away from the Graphite frame Guys. Stay safe my Friend Semper Fidelis

I don't like the Cheese made versions. I think they are of lesser quality than those made in Sweden. Plastic parts and poor finish are but two reasons I have for my obvious disappointment in these products - Dennis

I never owned one of these, but as I remember there was a lot of trouble with the frame flexing and they were only sold for a very short time.
@2ndChanceTackle11 ай бұрын
That's a possible reason for discontinuing the reel. There are a great many innovations made in reel manufacture. Some work, some fail. The flexing may have been the downside on a great ide - Thanks

Interesting, the Pro model was never available to the US market. I got the standard Eon when it came out. It never really worked right out of the box. Abu refused to fix it, offering my money back.

Thanks for sharing. A lot of companied simply offer a replacement versus repair. That's the state of their customer service and support! Dennis
