I used to date a girl who while a music major in college back in the late 90s copublished a paper with her father (who was a sound engineer for the state highway administration) detailing exactly how music could be made utilizing appropriately spaced rumble strips on highways. The idea was that it could help wake up drivers while converting highway noise to music and lessening unpleasant noise polution. This is most likely the result of their research.

They did a musical highway in a city near where I live once and scraped it off within a month because local residents complained about the noise. I like how the barcode scanner isn't just a trigger for a software instrument or anything but directly uses the signal as audio. It's got that very rough proto-electronic music quality to it, just buzzes and boops because it's not really meant to be a synth.
@theartoftimelapsemore4242 жыл бұрын
The first one, the barcode scanner, sounds really industrial like. It's something you'd hear on German industrial music or goth EDM. The euphone was amazing as well. Very relaxing to listen to. And of course the sheng. Her playing Super Mario Bros. on it is seriously talented. Totally underrated in my book and everyone else's. Now, the "guitarridoo" is quite unique. Sounds good and strange at the same time. And of course the musical road is a fun little thing to experience on a road trip. Finally the harpejji. It's a very happy sounding tune. A very joyful tune being played with a tone of epicness.
