I used to date a girl who while a music major in college back in the late 90s copublished a paper with her father (who was a sound engineer for the state highway administration) detailing exactly how music could be made utilizing appropriately spaced rumble strips on highways. The idea was that it could help wake up drivers while converting highway noise to music and lessening unpleasant noise polution. This is most likely the result of their research.

They did a musical highway in a city near where I live once and scraped it off within a month because local residents complained about the noise. They went crazy with the same tune playing over and over at slightly different intonations as people pass with varying speeds. Great concept for desert roads, but terrible idea for urban areas

2:50 I remember a museum in my hometown wanted to do a road song for a museum dedicated to a local linguist(and inventor of Norway's secondary written language), but they never went through with it. I like how the barcode scanner isn't just a trigger for a software instrument or anything but directly uses the signal as audio. It's got that very rough proto-electronic music quality to it, just buzzes and boops because it's not really meant to be a synth.
@theartoftimelapsemore424
@theartoftimelapsemore424 2 жыл бұрын
The first one, the barcode scanner, sounds really industrial like. It's something you'd hear on German industrial music or goth EDM. The euphone was amazing as well. Very relaxing to listen to. And of course the sheng. Her playing Super Mario Bros. on it is seriously talented. Totally underrated in my book and everyone else's. Now, the "guitarridoo" is quite unique. Sounds good and strange at the same time. And of course the musical road is a fun little thing to experience on a road trip. Finally the harpejji. It's a very happy sounding tune. A very joyful tune being played with a tone of epicness.

In case you were curious, the thing in the thumbnail is a ham radio made by Jeri Ellsworth, not actually a musical instrument. I think she's in the thumbnail because it looks cool or because of her homemade Keytar, which is made out of an old computer keyboard.

The musical road was built in memoriam of a famous hungarian band's singer after his death. It's on road 67 and plays their song called road 67. BTW in case you want to listen: band name: Republic song name in hun: A 67-es út

Indeed Bam Seeker. I have many times played the open Hooker two into one magaphone. And the Kirker four into one megaphone. Sometimes the best rendition was for 12.40 seconds. It would also make nice art while playing: 105' in first gear, 52' in second, 5' in third.

I found the song on accident one day, I think it's "Take Five" by The Dave Brubeck Quartet.
