I would have taken all that soil off. I used to leave soil on my plants until I had a plant from lowes that just seemed to keep having problems and I had moved it into the bathroom because I didn't see anything on it. After more than a month of it sitting in there, I decided to do something with it and that was when I found the biggest mealy bugs I had ever seen. They had to be in the soil. So since then I strip all soil from new plants and they go into mine.

Gosh that is awful!!!!! I really try to remove all the soil, but sometimes I worry I am going to destroy the roots.
