Oh, man....you knocked it out of the park on this one! The beef wrap/sandwich looked ok, but the cooking method and pan were really interesting. The sheep head was spectacular. All the various 'bits and bobs', and the seasonings looked amazing! You can tell that the chef/butcher has cracked into a good number of heads. For me, though the mezze meal was the show-stopper. That is my style of eating, and every dish looked so fresh, and well-prepared. Good food, friendly people, and a pretty and interesting city...I can see why you would want an extended stay there. If I'm ever able to travel again, Istanbul and Tokyo are vying for top of the list of places to go. If I never recover enough to travel, at least I can tag along virtually with the sweetest couple in the world.

Lordy, so glad you liked the roasted lambs head. Grew up eating them. Delicious with a squeeze of lemon. The puddings were interesting, see a future visit to Istanbul. That meze was incredible. Yes yes yes please talk about the marinated fish and the other dishes not shown. That juicy wrap and version in bread, broke me had to make a shredded steak sandwich for me and a wrap for River. Ummm don't judge added tinned anchovies to the mix. Happy travels. Another great vlog. Can't wait for your NY posts

First of all congrats you might be the first outlanders who can drink raki and like it. Also you did it right, most people dont like it because they drink it without pouring cold water and ice. Also it is not beer, it needs meze with it to drink. You should try Kalamar if you go there again as my favourite meze, and Kokorec in a good restaurant. Love your videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Kazandibi is actually just a milk pudding with a crust. The one with chicken is called tavukgöğsü (chicken breast) and doesn't have a burnt crust. But maybe the Lokanta where you were combined the two desserts😄
@ChasingaPlate
@ChasingaPlate 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Yunus Urhan, thanks for watching and commenting! Back in the Ottoman era the palace kitchens made kazandibi with chicken breast as it was the bottom of the pan used to make tavukgogsu 😄 this lokanta uses a super traditional recipe and follows that history 😄 Hope you enjoyed this video! Cheers, Sheena

Nice to know🤔 so the kazandibi I know is just a fake☹️😅 I'll definitely go there for the real one now😋
@arborinfelix
@arborinfelix 2 жыл бұрын
Small correction the chicken puddings name is not "kazandibi" but "tavuk gögüsü" the name tavuk gögüsü means literary chicken breast. Kazandibi is a variation of puddings you can order. Kazan dibi can be translated as the "bottom of the pot". The bottom part of the pot means that it will be caramelized after it's made. Therefore the chicken breast pudding has a brown color on top. When I order mine I order it the regular way (plain white) with cinnamon on top of it. By the way it's a great video.

That sheeps head experience was so unusual and l cant help but think why? But hey why not!! I love the concept of eating in a Butcher's shop, who better to know meat than the experts themselves. You can have my plate of chicken milk pudding that one messes with my head, although it looked beautiful and fluffy. The star of the vid has got to be the Meze! And how much Sheenas face lit up with the word "Drink" 🤣. No BS from you guys you do love Meze as seen by your at home meals in Lockdown in NZ. Stunning selection of dishes, colours, textures and the Anchovies! That was a show stopper. 👍

Gosh both the sheep’s heads we had in Istanbul were brilliant we were so glad we were there for a number of weeks so we could go back again after filming for these meals again. The mezze also was the best. Again we managed to make it back there for another meal after filming. Such a great spread. The pudding has no chicken taste at all. Just tastes like a milk pudding. Very yum. I really like the burnt top. Can’t get enough of that style of pudding when we’re in Istanbul (lots of very similar ones with chicken can be found also). Thanks for the support and thanks for watching this one! Cheers, Thomas 😀

Watching this in late night is not the best idea, i'm dying now... You guys killed me with the cheek meat. Also i'm sure you guys had "köfte" - meatball before. But, if you guys want to try it again, you should look for the places that makes köfte with cheek meat in it. Its not that common anymore since it became like-fastfood, but there are some places still make köfte with cheek meat in it. Its the classical way or classical recipe. Its way more juicy and soft.
@ChasingaPlate

😍😍😍😍😍 no way! How come we have never heard of this magic??!! 😆 we both love cheek meat so that kind of köfte would be right up our alley! We’ll definitely search for it the next time we’re in town. Thanks for the heads up mate! Hope you enjoyed this series, thanks for watching and commenting 😄 Cheers, Sheena

If you fell into the mighty pit of melon and cheese, try watermelon and cheese the same way for the next time. That one doesn't necessarily have to be with rakı, mostly we just have it pretty much anytime during summer.

Nice Turkey series! Am loving them. I love tavuk göğsü tatlısı and usually it's just served white with no caramelisation, so it was interesting that the kazandibi had chicken in there (which I could see it did because of the strings) - kazandibi is usually known as being chicken-free. Looove both though 😄 Thanks again for taking us along with you.

Hi Peony Pink, thanks so much for watching and commenting! So happy you are enjoying this series mate. This lokantası is pretty traditional so they make the kazandibi from the bottom of the tavuk göğsü tatlısı. So they produce the two puddings from the same pan. It was soooo tasty- we love both too. Hope you enjoy the content we have coming up mate! Cheers, Sheena

I am happy for you guys that you liked these deserts but I strongly recommend for you to go try it in another place. Because it seems like that the owners of this place just were too lazy to prepre kazandibi the right way. Because usually kazandibi would not contain any chickenbreast and it totally differs from tavukgogusu in preparation, taste and texture wise. But you are really doing a good job researching the dishes and restaurants and keep up the great work 😊
@ChasingaPlate
@ChasingaPlate 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ceren Sahin, this is so interesting as all the Turkish resources I read prior to filming this piece mentioned how kzandibi is prepared from the bottom of the tavuk göğsü tatlısı pan and so it does contain chicken breast. And this lokantası is really famous for its puddings- it wasn't just any old place that we found. I am puzzled by all the contrasting information 😝 Thanks so much for the kind words mate! Cheers, Sheena
@cerensahin9938
@cerensahin9938 5 жыл бұрын
@@ChasingaPlate Well I am not a local but I am turkish and have been to Istanbul and other turkish cities a hundred times before, and have never eaten kazandibi made out of the same pudding base as tavukgogusu. And I noticed that most of your turkish followers also wondered about why it contains chicken breast, because it usually won't. I am not saying that this restaurant is a scam or something but it felt just odd to me. And yes in reference to the name kazandibi really means bottom of the pan or pot, but not because they use the leftover tavukgogusu in the bottom of the pot but because it looks like burnt. They poor sugar on it and caramalize untill it looks allmost like a dish from a burnt pot that's why it's called that name. But who knows maybe the original way to prepare kazandibi was like what they told you but we people just don't know about it anymore because other places prepare it different now. But on the other hand I'm pretty sure that it's gotta be the way I told you because I just don't remember to have eaten any kazandibi with chicken breast in it. And trust me I'm telling the truth because kazandibi is the first thing that I eat I Turkey regarding to the fact that allmost no turkish restaurant serves it here in Germany because of the hard and long preparation process.
