Watching your reviews on lathes and you got me on the hook 😂 ! Sunday morning here in NY USA, leavings are falling outside at the same rate as the wood shavings from your lathe projects!😊 I'm relaxing here , drinking coffee while watching your videos! May God Bless you and yours brother in Christ! Just keep turning!🕊💪

Very nice looking box. That mishap at the end was heart-wrenching. Nice recovery from it. It's comforting to see that even very experienced wood turners have those kinds of incidents.

Mistakes often happens, there is a saying in Croatia, 'he who works ,makes mistakes' ... Its normal thing,its a way that you recover from it .... Thank you very much for comment and for watching 🤗

You are very skilled with a skew chisel, and nice save on the catch at the end. One thing I really like, is reverse chucking the base to finish off the bottom. I like that. Regards. Sam

Whew! Great piece and I'm glad it wasn't the end of the vessel. That exact end grain entry cut was the last place I would regularly have a catch. Part of the problem was that it is always an obscured cut from my seated position. That, and I didn't realize my flute was open too far. A similar rounding cut/bead turning away from the headstock would also often catch on me for a similar reason combined with not raising my handle to make the curve as the cut is made. I was accidentally giving it a wing to bite into. Great fit on the lid!

Another excellent demonstration including a catch and how you fixed it. I like all the ‘ooops’ moments because they show that even a master can have the odd one. It shows clearly why it happened, and it helps newcomers that it is all part of the learning process. Greetings from Tasmania Australia 👍😁🇦🇺🦘

I haven't tried it yet but an older turner told me that you can make a hollower from old hex keys. epoxy the long end in a handle and make the short end into a cutter. I am going to give it a try. I enjoy making my own tools. I attended a demo by Elizabeth Weber this week and she uses the box itself as the jamb chuck. Turns the top and then takes the box flange to size. Also,, she does beautiful work.
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning

Indeed she does, I usually do the same with the box part as a jam chuck but totally forgot as I was doing several things at once....😀.... I would be catious about using hex key as a tool.... Not beacuse of the steel but beacuse of the shape.... Its 90degrees short to long part and your contact area is of balance and its very easy to twist in your hands and break a wrist.... That is why cutting point is always in line with the handle.... hope that make sense😉... Thank you very much for watching and support what I do ☺️

Excellent video and technique. I learn something from every one of your videos. Q: what price point would you place on this piece?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that David..... Uff that is quite different beacuse shopping power in Croatia and close by countries are not that great.... If I would like to sell it I can't put price for this one more then 35-40euro..... In pretty much every other country I've seen this kind of boxes go for double..... It really depends on where you live and where is your market..... I hope to expand to ouside Croatia even more as with only 3,5milion people its easy to saturate the market..... Hope that makes sense 😀

Nice save! I like that little box. Did you put finish on the inside? If so how did you apply it?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning Жыл бұрын
I did same as on outside,just didn't show that well... Its odie's wax , little bit on 400 scotch bride pad and its melted with friction...vworks ok but still loving more the regular beeswax over oil for boxes... Thank you Randy, hopefully that helpes?
