Embark on a journey into the world of renewable energy with a focus on France's groundbreaking innovation - Blue Energy. Join us as we explore the origins of this concept, dating back to 1954 when British Engineer R. E. Pattlom first noticed the intriguing behavior of salt and fresh water solutions separated by a "semipermeable" membrane. The flow of water between these solutions generates pressure that can be harnessed to produce electricity through turbines. This phenomenon gave birth to the concept of "blue energy" or "osmosis energy."

Well in all those Hollywood documentaries the aliens often come to take our water. There must be a way we can use it for fuel.

Lack of fresh water is a very big problem. Blue energy would make that worse. As for taking water just before it hits the ocean, that would cause other problem to the eco system the flow rate of the water would drop causing rivers to have build ups of soot then more energy would be needed to clear the rivers. SMRs are the best energy hope for our short term future.

- "the flow rate of the water would drop" You seem to be confused. If the flow rate would drop, there would be accumulation of water somewhere. Where would that be? In reality that of course doesn't happen (at least at meaningful scale on the dominant plant type, built on river estuaries - if you know a plant type that makes water "disappear" somewhere, I'd be interested to hear some specifics about it). - "SMRs are the best energy hope for our short term future." If they really are the best hope, we are in trouble. According to studies small nuclear reactors (SMR's) would be at least 50 % more expensive to build per MWh produced than traditional nuclear power plants, and even that would require large scale semi-serial production (of course the companies developing SMRs tell a different story on their marketing material). Also controlling of what happens to spent nuclear fuel would become exponentially more difficult, if SMR's indeed would become popular and be built in all kinds of countries that currently don't have nuclear power. Expensive and problematic - what's not to like...

Personally I think your wrong , small scale water turbines are much more feasible long term, plus thier is no more or less water on the planet now than when the neanderthals roamed its surface 😉

Because it was an unproved hypothesis at best and a dream at worst, if someone could have made a buck out of it don't you think they would have, and didn't your mother teach you not to yell.
