Unveiling Connecticut River's Underwater World: Fly Fishing Adventure

One of things I get a kick out of when filming with my daughter, Megan, is her spontaneity and curiosity. Her filming underwater in one of my favorite fishing spots of the Connecticut River, in Pittsburg, New Hampshire was not planned, discussed or even thought of. Our goal on this trip was to introduce Megan’s boyfriend, Alex, to fly fishing, which you will shortly see was a great success.
I had fun identifying the fish while editing this video. If you would like to take a shot at identifying them please leave your thoughts and explain why in the comment section. Here’s a hint: there are four species, and two of them might not be so obvious.

Trophy Stretch is such a fun place to fish!! Went there last summer during the flooding, me and a friend basically had the place to ourselves! :) Fish ID, Longnose Sucker, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Atlantic Salmon (there might be some white suckers in there too, some of them got a bit of a shorter nose/lighter coloring). Thanks for another great video, if I ever see you out there I'll ask for an autograph haha :D

Fish IDs - You nailed it!!!!! The one fish I wasn't positive about was the Longnose Sucker, but it was the size of the scales that lead to my conclusion -- there sure were a lot of them. I saw videos of the flooding that occured a week or so after we fished the river. I've never seen the river that high. I can't even imagine fishing it with the water running that high. No wonder you had the river to yourselves, the water must have been in the trees.

Fun fact, I could not tell if the shots underwater were good or not, I could not see the screen when I did it.

Over the past couple of years the average has been 3,500/yr brookies and rainbows. They stock Lake Francis with Landlocked Salmon - and those fish do swim up river. But it amazing me how fast the rainbows and brookies disappear a couple of weeks after each stocking. We got lucky this time as they had stocked the river a couple of days prior. Later that afternoon we went down to the logging bridge, and even though it was pouring rain the place was a zoo. And yet if you walk downstream 100 ft you have the river to yourself....

@@RemoteFlyFishing The trophy stretch alone received 6,090 fish in 2022 from the state. Plus the local club purchases several loads of breeders to be stocked as well during the season. When it’s all said and done it’s about 3k per mile

@@bradhardy2777 Brad, I can see where you are getting your information from the 2022 stocking report as it includes stocking of 2,500 Landlocked Salmon, but they didn't stock salmon in 2023 0r 2021. Take a look at the stocking cards on the interactive stocking report. Stocking salmon in 2022 isn't something they do every year. And 6,000 isn't 10K. That stocking of LLS in 2022 - would be interesting to see the stocking cards for them. I'm wondering if this might have been a "seeding" of small LLS. something like how they stock little brook trout by the thousands from choppers in remote trout ponds.
