\ IMP Mentor Story | Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy /
Orwin Santosa Yap, an Indonesian student majoring in Life Science, participated in #NTU International Mentorship Program and spent his summer interning at TAISE, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy. Under the guidance of the Chairman, Ambassador Eugene Chien, and Chief Deputy Secretary General, Professor Pin-Chih Wang, Orwin performed tasks such as collecting data, translating documents, and researching sustainability actions of the Taiwanese government and Taiwanese companies.
Initially, Orwin came to TAISE simply because of his interest in sustainable development goals (SDGs) of #ZeroHunger and #LifeOnLand, but this summer internship has been more fruitful than he expected. After gaining a deeper understanding of the different facets of SDGs at TAISE, Orwin realized that sustainability is, in fact, closely related to his major, Life Science. He also applied his research skills acquired at NTU to help find judges for the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award (TCSA) and analyze the sustainability strategies and practical measures of the Taiwanese government and corporations. Through the #NTU International Mentorship Program, Orwin gained real experience in the Taiwanese workplace, harvested knowledge in sustainability and environmental protection, and discovered his passion for the field. Orwin hopes that in the future, like Ambassador Chien, he will be able to devote to protecting the land he lives in and benefiting the future generations to come.
In the next few months, NTU OIA will continue to visit the mentors and students of our Mentorship Program to share stories and learn from their experiences. Stay tuned to our social media channels for more mentorship story posts!
