Pretty landscape! I love the no-warping aspect. I've tried ironing my paper as well as flattening them out with heavy books on top which helps, but still has slight warpage. Will have to check these out.

Oh fantastic news!! I have been wanting to paint on some watercolor panels/canvas boards but I have not been to happy with the brands I have used in the past. I’m excited about the quality of the product & the great reasonable prices of the various sizes. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video with us!!🥰

I like their watercolor paper. It really is tough. I used it on a little painting of a cat and had to,scrub not some paint. You couldn’t tell. Most papers pill easily, but not Legion.I usually use Arches or Fabriano, but will be using more Legion.

this looks really interesting! it's one of the reasons why I love painting on blocks so much, they're so much easier than tape 🥰

This is so cool! I have always loved legion paper! It has some drawbacks like you can't use tape or masking fluid on it because the paper tears but they make all of their paper on blocks, all are 100% cotton, and they are always way more affordable than most other cotton brands! I am so excited to try these out!

Hullo Emily, I know that stretching watercolor paper is not the easiest aspect to watercolor painting. I believe that is the reason why so many blocks are sold! I have used quite a few watercolor panels and not stretching them is just one favorable “pro” to working on a panel. I am wondering how the Legion panels compare to Cresent and Ampersand paper panels? Have you ever tried some of those surfaces? I have found most are nice, price has been a key factor for me when looking for a panel option. Thank you for sharing your time, effort, opinions on this new to you product! Please take care and enjoy the lovely sunny weather!

Emily, this was a very interesting video... I loved the painting, and would have liked to see it in indoor lighting, as I know it always looks a lot lighter in sunlight. I liked the way you changed things around, and reminding us that we. as artists can change things if we want to. I think, in this age of constant use of online reference photos, we really do need to keep on being reminded! And also to remember the cameras on mobile phones, so we can take our own, any time, any place! One particular thing almost made me switch off and so miss the lovely painting tutorial before you got there... so much so that I did something I have never done before: I ended up checking up on myself via the transcript! But it just proved me right. You probably didn't realise it, but you used, 'I'm so excited' five times in this 9 minute video, four of them in the first 2mins 42, and two "I cannot wait" in 30 seconds...And some repetition of the Stonehenge description! I don't mind superlatives. One reason I enjoy your videos is that I love your bubbly enthusiasm. but this was different. It's the first time it's bugged me, and the word, "Gushing" came to mind (effusive or exaggeratedly enthusiastic.). It's so unlike you, and I got the impression that for some reason you were really very nervous about this! Oh, and that awful t-shirt! I think I'd have pretended it wasn't there! 😄 But it really was a good tutorial and a lovely painting. I'm glad I kept with you and watched it! Thank you!

Wonderful product for commission pieces like you said. Also for the plein air! Interesting that you used your portrait set of watercolours. Speaking of which, have you tried out QoR's Ali Cavanaugh's portrait colours yet? They're really quite stunning and I'm a little obsessed already. There's two new colours that QoR and Ali have formulated which are only available in the set and my goodness they pack a punch. Anyhoo, just thought you might be interested. I will definitely be on the lookout for these panels in Australia but we're always the last to get anything fabulous!

I stretch my watercolor paper and have very few issues but I don’t think a lot of people use the stretching technique anymore. People tape the sides down and paint hence warping paper.

I love Stonehenge, that's my go to paper. But I don't generally use panels because I don't think they work as well? At least not the ones I've used in the past, so I will have to give these a try. Not sure about the aluminum backing though, doesn't that seem excessive, like from a production and eco standpoint? I dunno just a thought, maybe I'm wrong haha
@EmilyOlsonArt
@EmilyOlsonArt 3 ай бұрын
Excessive? Nah. There are MANY oil and acrylic painters who use aluminum panels. Why not watercolor artists too? They just feel so *quality*!

11.99 a panel for 8x10? A full sheet of Saunders Waterford 22x30 inches costs $6.27? I'm pretty sure you could buy a full sheet and make 8x10 panels with gatorboard or equivalent for a lot less than that. Have you see Brienne M.Browns tutorials on making your own panels. Would be interested in your thoughts on that.

That was beautiful. Colors were amazing. Can you mount your own watercolor paper?
@danemeow8
@danemeow8 3 ай бұрын
I'm not an expert becuz I don't do this technique, but I have seen people mount it on Gator board after soaking the paper in water until it's freely foldable, then staple it taught around the edges to the Gator board, ie stretching the paper that way. You could keep it mounted though. Especially if you used a different way to fix it in place, or perhaps even used some kind of archival waterproof paste on the back after soaking. Just some ideas cuz again, I've never tried. I have used the Japanese nori paste to mount thin paper to other paper before and that works well

Emily, I understand the desire to solve our issue of securing our paper but I share food for thought. My father worked in the Aluminum plant, so we even had Aluminum pots and pans etc. In this day and age we know it must not be filling our land fills and hence its removal from antiperspirant, toothpaste tubes, use in cookware, or other items headed for ingestion or landfills. Should we reconsider this as an easy solution? The present Arches blocks have been a good solution for my art work so far! I appreciate your thoughts all the same.

See, I was thinking of the possible aluminum waste as well. But if you're a professional? Maybe it's worth it? I do tend to worry about that stuff though

I was wondering the same thing. The fact that a brand that manufactures art supplies is openly using AI images for their promotional material is disappointing, to say the least.

The only thing is the rounded edges which I hate and ruins this whole idea for me, removing the look of paper, creating an artificial feel, that will not look good for float framing at all. Raymar does have proper angled edges. Also, with it being backed to a panel, there is no way of double checking if the oil paint paper holds up and that not anything seeps through, although it says it will, it is leaving it completely on trust. These two things are the only things that holds me back from this, or I would go all out and buy 50 pieces of the biggest size.
