Ginny Buckley is at the 1998 Detroit Auto Show in Michigan taking a look at the unveiling of the 1998 Volkswagen Beetle. Plus she'll be speaking to a representatives from Volkswagen UK to find out what they're hoping to achieve with this latest Beetle and how much we should expect to pay for it.

I remember test driving a new beetle in 1998 I was 16 then. Flash forward 20 years and I just now bought a 2002 vw bug. 1998 felt like days ago.

Oh wow! Talk about a time wrap to the late 1990s! I actually remember seeing my very first "new" (or now newer) Beetle when I was 9 or 10.

A beetle that was based on a mark 4 golf.As for Volkswagens in general reliability is patchy at the best such as air conditioning compressors and other problems especially with the polo hatch which I know from owning one.As for the so called new beetle nothing but a marketing tool.

I had a New Beetle for 10 years and never had any trouble with it. It was a great car.

Mine just passed 320k miles and no real trouble apart from just normal maintenance to the engine and automatic transmission. So maybe being based on the Golf was a good thing.
