i was waiting for commentary on the episode itself. This was the best of the series. All the action involving the ripper was in the vein of a villian with extraordinary strength. The photography, the choreography and the agility of stuntman Mickey Gilbert as the ripper was feature film quality. The series hit the ground running with the momentum this show provided. Darrin and Simon Oakland's machine gun dialogue delivery was a throw back to the Cary Grant movies of the forties including the punched up comedy.

Very well researched! I've been a Night Stalker fan since the first movie, and enjoy the series to this day. You're facts and fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work!

Actually, I got hooked to the series while having missed the two pilot movies. I fretted about missing it and I thought there was only one. To my delight I discovered there were actually TWO and did all I could to see both of them. What a treat that was and I thought, actually, the 2nd movie had a better, more intriguing story.

This was a great episode to start off the series. Can you IMAGINE if they started the series w/ Mr. RING or Energy Eater ???? GAK !

Another interesting fact: many of the producers, directors and writers from "Kolchak" would work together again a few years later on "CHiPs" (1977). Namely Cy Chermak, Paul Playdon and Christian I. Nyby II. Erik Estrada, who starred as Officer Frank "Ponch" Poncherello on "CHiPs" even guest starred in a "Kolchak" episode ("Legacy of Terror" (1975)).

This was the second best episode behind the vampire which they should have made a movie out of and continued the original movie

On a side note: I was always disappointed they never followed up with Spectre.

I was in high school when this premised. Loved the first two movies. Liked the tv series. Probably for the better the series didn’t last long. As the network didn’t get to screw the series.

I remember hearing some different intro or closing theme music from this show. Can anyone help? Great tv show!
@MADE_FOR_TV Жыл бұрын
The two made for TV movies did not contain the TV theme. So that may be what you are remembering.

@@MADE_FOR_TV I remember a late night tv show (reruns no doubt) in the mid 70’s. I don’t believe many episodes were made. I would really like to find that show. The theme music I found on iTunes didn’t sound like the music i I remembered.

Commentary is great, but I would be interested in seeing the whole episode without the commentary!

Who played the ripper in this episode?

I recall it was stuntman Mickey Gilbert who played The Ripper.

The commentary is fine but the audio is horrible. Its so bad. What went wrong? Was it recorded in a microwave oven?

Programs with things that are all researched correctly, doesn't make it a good show. Kolchak with all the mistakes is great.
@Grendelbc Жыл бұрын
Shame that after 2 good movies, they went cheap with junk writing and effects on the series. Kolchak had tremendous potential and the producers squandered it.

The loss of Curtis and Matheson doomed the series even before it had a chance. Such a shame...

I was 9 in 1974 and this was my all time favorite episode ( tv show) to this day , I thought I would grow up and do the same thing as Kolchek did..Truth is I don’t even believe in Bigfoot anymore 🥱
