I really appreciate your detailed explanation and demonstration of how a parabola modifier works. I was amazed on the crispness of the clothing while still keeping the skin of the model soft. I hope to on day use a Para 222 modifier and possibly own one. Thank you for taking the time to create and share these videos.

Fascinating insight, Karl. The rental cost for a day is quite reasonable too. Not that expensive for the day when you consider just how versatile and effective this modifier is.

Thank you for your comment. Yes - they're certainly a bespoke lighting modifier but renting is a great option for those specific shoots. We're trying to cover everything photographers might see in a studio environment. Final video next week on the 120 X 180 Softbox :)

Thank you for the info on the Para Karl. I have always been curious about these modifiers, such a unique light quality. Would like to rent and run one of the smaller Para's at some point if only to experience the light provided.

Hi if you do try the Para 133 for upper body portraits.

Hi Karl from Canada. Thank you for yet another fabulous educational video. Very much appreciated. I’m setting up a Para from an other brand similar to the 133. Did I not see some custom made grip on an other video where you had two modifiers on T bar made of square tubing? I woild love to see more on that and other advanced grip solutions. Cheers

At what distance should the 222 be used away from the model? Thanks

That's the sort of gear that begs you to go out and figure out how to use it. The possibilities of it are mind boggling.

Thank you for sharing. With such a big modifier, will it kill a lot of shadows?
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 7 ай бұрын
When using it from the front directly behind the photographer then the shadows on the model are on sides of the face and in the texture of fabric. When using it from the side then it's shadows are on the opposite side like any other light but the lighting itself looks distinctly different. The light is not like one big light it is like 24 small lights placed in a large circle.

what is real price for Para ?
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 7 ай бұрын
about $8,000USD but prices may vary from site to site. Renting them is a more affordable option if needed for a shoot

@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio Күн бұрын
Hi, if you already have the 158 godox why did you want me to review it? Or is that not what you meant? Also you can't compare a 158 against a 222 as they are very different sizes (I'm guessing the 158 refers to the diameter in same way the 222 does) the closest comparison would therefore be the 133 Para which I have or the 177 which I don't have.

@ well it’s for your opinion of the Godox you are raining king of light modafier. And I have never used a bro color
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio Күн бұрын
Hi, thank you. I did some research online and it seems the Godox 158 is 150cm diameter so it's inbetween the bron para 133 and 177 so there wouldn't be a way to do an exact like for like comparison. However from what i can see on the product description it looks like a true parabolic shape and with a proper focusing rod, so that's all good. I can't tell from the photos but the material looks like a slightly shinier material than the Para 133 so it might be a little harder in light quality, other than that it doesn't look like there would be much difference. Broncolor use the shiny material in the 177 and the 222 because they are bigger they are naturally softer. I would say it looks good but obviously I don't know the build quality / durability.

Hadn't I watched a video in which you explained that the depth of parabolic modifiers was just for marketing consideration and that the depth didn't make a big difference with shallower ones ? The reflection of this huge modifier fills and hides the pupil of the eye. Isn't that a problem?
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio 7 ай бұрын
Hi, no that video was about something called 'Parabolic softboxes' which are a nonsense because they claim to use parabolic science to then put that light through heavy diffusion material which completely cancels out all parabolic collimating effects so is pointless. In that video I demonstrated that.

Hi, If you look carefully at what we're doing here on youtube you will see that this video is part of our playlist on lighting modifiers (19 videos so far) and in each of those videos we're showing the equipment that we use in each video we're pointing out what the alternatives are and how they compare in price. For the the Para 222 that we use (and we felt it better to talk about them than not) the only alternative is from Briese and I think it's more expensive. Should that stop us talking about them, or is it better for the youtube audience to know what we use and point out the cost of rental too for those that might need to use one? If you only want to see shoots rather than information about equipment then you should head over to our website which is where you will find all of our best shoot demonstrations, classes and live workshops.

Almost $8,000! Oh heck no. This is one video that may make me stop watching your videos. Showing something this ridiculous that almost 99.9% of regular people would never use is not a good thing. This seems to be an elitist video. Of which I am not.

Buy the previous model (Para 220 FB) used! You can get it in good condition for around 2000 CHF… (1CHF = 0.90 USD) Keep in mind that the Para 220 FB is optimised for the ring flash…. but it can be used with a Pulso or Unilite… the light will be slightly off-center. The Para 222 has the advantage for be easily adapted to any light…not only from Broncolor

LOL … anyone doing fashion will rent this on the regular. It’s not elitist at all. It’s a tool and a very powerful tool that costs a lot to build. It’s not uncommon for normal folks like you and me to use it for its intended purpose.

Also just to add, I just checked I can rent a Para 222 for a day from the Procentre in London for £78. So this information is still very valid for photographers who need to know how or why to use this equipment.
